With the mind-numbing international break out of the way, all eyes turn to the Premier League to assess whether any of the glittering new signings are worth a gamble on their debuts. Fantasy managers have so much to anticipate in Gameweek 4 – not least the damage that Robin van Perise can do in the early kick-off. Let’s cast an eye over Paddy Power’s assessment of the Dutchman, this week’s other likely scorers and the clean sheet hunt.

Anytime Goalscorer Odds – Gameweek 4

According to the traders in Power Tower, United are all set to rip into Crystal Palace. There are four of David Moyes’ squad in the top ten anytime scorers, including new boy Marouane Fellaini who is 11/8 to earn a debut goal.

Not surprisingly, it’s Van Persie who tops the list, however. With three goals for Holland over the break, he now has 18 strikes in his last 21 games for club and country and is 1/2 with Paddy to deliver the goods against Ian Holloway’s troops. Not good news for the Van Persie naysayers.

Roberto Soldado is the nearest rival to the United marksman and a player who will doubtless be carrying many an armband going into the White Hart Lane clash with Norwich. The Spaniard now has five goals in seven games for club and country since signing for Spurs. Soldado is 4/6 to score at anytime against the Canaries with Paddy.

Chelsea signing Samuel Eto’o is closer to a pension than puberty, but the Cameroonian striker is the most likely player to find the back of the net at any time in Chelsea’s clash with Everton. He can be backed at 15/8 to score a goal on his debut for Jose Mourinho’s side.

Frank Lampard scored twice on Merseyside in the corresponding fixture last season and has a goal, an assist and two clean sheets to his name already in this campaign. He’s at 23/10 with Paddy to notch in the Goodison clash – Theo Walcott, at 6/4 to score at Sunderland, is the only midfielder more fancied over the weekend fixtures. Paddy are refunding all losing first/last goalscorer, correct score and scorecast singles on this match should Lampard notch.

Clean Sheet Odds – Gameweek 4

TeamOdds
Man United1.72
Tottenham2.10
Man City2.10
Arsenal2.20
Southampton2.37
Hull2.70
Aston Villa2.80
Fulham2.80

Chelsea2.87

Just as Van Persie and Soldado dominate in the anytime scorer listing, it’s United and Spurs who rank top in the clean sheet odds. Paddy Power has David Moyes’ side at 8/11 to keep out newly promoted Palace, while Spurs are evens to rack up their third clean sheet of the season.

Despite the sizeable banana skin of a Britannia clash and the absence of Vincent Kompany in the back four, City are also well fancied here, with Arsenal not far behind as they look to shut-out Paolo Di Canio’s Black Cats at the Stadium of Light.

Goal-shy West Brom are the only side in the top flight not to score this season and face a testing trip to Craven Cottage. Fulham beat the Baggies 3-0 in this fixture last season and are 7/4 to keep a shut-out with Paddy Power. Martin Jol’s side are in the mix with Aston Villa and Liverpool, with Hull City and Southampton offering budget and mid-price options. The Tigers are 17/10 for a clean sheet at home to Cardiff, while the Saints are 11/8 with Paddy for a shut-out against Big Sam’s Hammers at St Mary’s.

If you’re new to Paddy Power, then you can take up any of these odds and get yourself a bonus. You can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register an account and bet a tenner.

Finally, of course, we should state that all these offers are only available to those aged 18 and over and are subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions. Also, if you’re going to bet, always gamble responsibly.

In all seriousness, this is the background to the Kolarov punt.

GW1 Clichy starts in a routine City 4-0 win over an awful Newcastle.
GW2 Clichy starts in super ropey 3-2 defeat at Cardiff.
GW3 Clichy dropped for Kolarov and City beat Hull 2-0 (with a few nervous moments admittedly).

    Clichy gets injured.

    Last 3 seasons.

Clichy: 9 assists in 7792 minutes
Kolarov: 4 goals 9 assists in 3598 minutes

        Clichy 37 in 7792 mins.

Overall Kol has better points per 90 minutes than Clichy both last season and the season before (by a mile).

Pretty pretty pretty good. I think Soldo is overpriced, espec when you can have Benteke for less, but his fixtures arent as good. Vidic may get rested for champs league from time to time too. Evra's got to start though, no obvious alternative, but I think he's 0.5 more.

Agreed about Soldado. Reason I want him in over benteke are fixtures and spurs attack has to start clicking here with all these pickups they made. I think they're due to explode. Reckon I stay put or drop Soldado for benteke and upgrade to Evra?

You make a good point. It's a toss up, like so many choices in FPL! Sorry I can't be much more help, they're both good choices. I think Hernandez is probably a good choice too, judging by his start and stats, especially for the price.

Thank you for the responses. I don't think we'll see clean sheets at the rate they've been going in the first few weeks. I think as a result you need defensive coverage from the big clubs. Migs gives me pool coverage, walker for totty, vidic for man u, and Koschielny for arsenals upcoming fixtures. I think these have been the better defensive teams so far, minus Chelsea. I'll try and get terry in as soon as Chelsea's fixtures begin to lighten. For these reasons, I don't really want to downgrade defenders. Hernandez is nailed on and could be a steal at his price. We know the midfielders haven't done too much anyways. Again, thanks for the response. Appreciate it!

He does like taking hits, but that is really strange

Maybe he's planning Aguero Suarez RVP next month?

On one of my test teams I am going to try out the 5-2-3 formation with RVP. Have managed to get good players for every position but my bench is awful.

How often does a situation arise where you are waiting for a players price to fall before you take him.....especially on a Friday night of a match week. Normally we are rushing to make our GW transfers before price updates!

    Michu.......you better come good! !
