With the mind-numbing international break out of the way, all eyes turn to the Premier League to assess whether any of the glittering new signings are worth a gamble on their debuts. Fantasy managers have so much to anticipate in Gameweek 4 – not least the damage that Robin van Perise can do in the early kick-off. Let’s cast an eye over Paddy Power’s assessment of the Dutchman, this week’s other likely scorers and the clean sheet hunt.

Anytime Goalscorer Odds – Gameweek 4

According to the traders in Power Tower, United are all set to rip into Crystal Palace. There are four of David Moyes’ squad in the top ten anytime scorers, including new boy Marouane Fellaini who is 11/8 to earn a debut goal.

Not surprisingly, it’s Van Persie who tops the list, however. With three goals for Holland over the break, he now has 18 strikes in his last 21 games for club and country and is 1/2 with Paddy to deliver the goods against Ian Holloway’s troops. Not good news for the Van Persie naysayers.

Roberto Soldado is the nearest rival to the United marksman and a player who will doubtless be carrying many an armband going into the White Hart Lane clash with Norwich. The Spaniard now has five goals in seven games for club and country since signing for Spurs. Soldado is 4/6 to score at anytime against the Canaries with Paddy.

Chelsea signing Samuel Eto’o is closer to a pension than puberty, but the Cameroonian striker is the most likely player to find the back of the net at any time in Chelsea’s clash with Everton. He can be backed at 15/8 to score a goal on his debut for Jose Mourinho’s side.

Frank Lampard scored twice on Merseyside in the corresponding fixture last season and has a goal, an assist and two clean sheets to his name already in this campaign. He’s at 23/10 with Paddy to notch in the Goodison clash – Theo Walcott, at 6/4 to score at Sunderland, is the only midfielder more fancied over the weekend fixtures. Paddy are refunding all losing first/last goalscorer, correct score and scorecast singles on this match should Lampard notch.

Clean Sheet Odds – Gameweek 4

TeamOdds
Man United1.72
Tottenham2.10
Man City2.10
Arsenal2.20
Southampton2.37
Hull2.70
Aston Villa2.80
Fulham2.80
Liverpool2.80
Chelsea2.87

Just as Van Persie and Soldado dominate in the anytime scorer listing, it’s United and Spurs who rank top in the clean sheet odds. Paddy Power has David Moyes’ side at 8/11 to keep out newly promoted Palace, while Spurs are evens to rack up their third clean sheet of the season.

Despite the sizeable banana skin of a Britannia clash and the absence of Vincent Kompany in the back four, City are also well fancied here, with Arsenal not far behind as they look to shut-out Paolo Di Canio’s Black Cats at the Stadium of Light.

Goal-shy West Brom are the only side in the top flight not to score this season and face a testing trip to Craven Cottage. Fulham beat the Baggies 3-0 in this fixture last season and are 7/4 to keep a shut-out with Paddy Power. Martin Jol’s side are in the mix with Aston Villa and Liverpool, with Hull City and Southampton offering budget and mid-price options. The Tigers are 17/10 for a clean sheet at home to Cardiff, while the Saints are 11/8 with Paddy for a shut-out against Big Sam’s Hammers at St Mary’s.

Register and Bet £10 And Get £20 Free

If you’re new to Paddy Power, then you can take up any of these odds and get yourself a bonus. You can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register an account and bet a tenner.

Finally, of course, we should state that all these offers are only available to those aged 18 and over and are subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions. Also, if you’re going to bet, always gamble responsibly.

"Risers: Giroud, Ward-Prowse, Barfa, Dawson, Lampard (probable), Coleman (probable), Welbeck (possible)

Fallers (selected): Dzeko, Michu, McAuley, Schneiderlin, Aspas, Mannone, Steven Taylor, van Wolfswinkel, Pienaar (probable), Zaha (probable), Kone (probable), Kaboul (possible)"

Only Coleman (probable) isn't set to rise and all fallers are set to fall.

So I started out my WC firm in the intention not to have RVP. One week in and he was firmly established in my side and I was confident. Yesterday he came out again and is staying out.

We all get nervous about RVP but there is a fairly strong argument that you could have done just as well last year without him as with (see the blog post from the FPL winner.) This year he is more expensive and arguably has had a worse start. Man U have still not yet adjusted to Moyes and did poorly in the transfer market. The chances of him bettering last years score is slim and so far service to him has been poor.

As of today I am publicly declaring this is a RVP-free zone for me, even if he gets a hat-trick against CRY.

I admire your confidence. I'm RVP'ing because at the moment there are no stand out premium mids so I can comfortably have him in and it not weaken my side. It just means I go without someone like Soldado who is still unproven. RVP is without question the best striker in the league. It will take a lot of skill to pick a side without him that scores more points than one with him.

Lampard between those two. I am selling Silva too. Thinking Eriksen or Lamela. Maybe even Nani.

    Boruc
    Collins, Coleman, Toure
    Silva, wally, HBA, Hernandez
    Giroud, Sturridge, RVP(C)
    Subs: Chester, Burner, Barkley (Foster)

Silva out for a hit to Nani punt, or play one of the subs? Sturridge and Toure doubts as well. 0.5 ITB. Cheers

I'd struggle spending -4pts on a player who may not play

The conclusion for my WC is that I am not so fussed about picking all the 'right' players but rather maintain squad flexibility so I can bring in the bandwagons as they become apparent in the next few weeks.

Can I get some help on this? Is this the correct starting XI for this lot?

    Migs
    Vidic, Dawson, Kos, Ivanovic
    Walcott(c?), Lampard, Nani
    Soldado(c?), Benteke(c?), Giroud(c?)

Neat team. I'd play Brady over one of your defenders, probably Kos? And I'd captain Christian B.

Sunderland are in bad sorts ATM though its a tough one. Brady home to Cardiff when else is better to play him all the same

    Right then 2 questions

    1. Bench 1 from B Turner, Coleman & Whittingham

    2. Worth -4 to do Ward => Vidic (and then bench 2 from above)

    undecided on Michu

8.9 is good , however he will already be halfway to another fall before the gameweek even begins , so if he does mothing this week he a certainty to drop again. Not what you want from a wildcard player.

Think i am set on Erikson instead , there no price of his price falling and he an interesting differential with massive upside . At 8m could be a snip. Says his free kicks have improved dramatically and will be on set pieces. With tottenhams easy fixtures , should be good chance of returns.
Manager has as good as stated he starts , which is more than can be said for the likes of Lampard

    Thoughts?

Sounds good, especially if us you the extra money to upgrade JWP to a certain starter.
