With the mind-numbing international break out of the way, all eyes turn to the Premier League to assess whether any of the glittering new signings are worth a gamble on their debuts. Fantasy managers have so much to anticipate in Gameweek 4 – not least the damage that Robin van Perise can do in the early kick-off. Let’s cast an eye over Paddy Power’s assessment of the Dutchman, this week’s other likely scorers and the clean sheet hunt.

According to the traders in Power Tower, United are all set to rip into Crystal Palace. There are four of David Moyes’ squad in the top ten anytime scorers, including new boy Marouane Fellaini who is 11/8 to earn a debut goal.

Not surprisingly, it’s Van Persie who tops the list, however. With three goals for Holland over the break, he now has 18 strikes in his last 21 games for club and country and is 1/2 with Paddy to deliver the goods against Ian Holloway’s troops. Not good news for the Van Persie naysayers.

Roberto Soldado is the nearest rival to the United marksman and a player who will doubtless be carrying many an armband going into the White Hart Lane clash with Norwich. The Spaniard now has five goals in seven games for club and country since signing for Spurs. Soldado is 4/6 to score at anytime against the Canaries with Paddy.

Chelsea signing Samuel Eto’o is closer to a pension than puberty, but the Cameroonian striker is the most likely player to find the back of the net at any time in Chelsea’s clash with Everton. He can be backed at 15/8 to score a goal on his debut for Jose Mourinho’s side.

Frank Lampard scored twice on Merseyside in the corresponding fixture last season and has a goal, an assist and two clean sheets to his name already in this campaign. He’s at 23/10 with Paddy to notch in the Goodison clash – Theo Walcott, at 6/4 to score at Sunderland, is the only midfielder more fancied over the weekend fixtures. Paddy are refunding all losing first/last goalscorer, correct score and scorecast singles on this match should Lampard notch.

Clean Sheet Odds – Gameweek 4

Tottenham2.10
Man City2.10
Arsenal2.20
Southampton2.37
Hull2.70
Aston Villa2.80

Just as Van Persie and Soldado dominate in the anytime scorer listing, it’s United and Spurs who rank top in the clean sheet odds. Paddy Power has David Moyes’ side at 8/11 to keep out newly promoted Palace, while Spurs are evens to rack up their third clean sheet of the season.

Despite the sizeable banana skin of a Britannia clash and the absence of Vincent Kompany in the back four, City are also well fancied here, with Arsenal not far behind as they look to shut-out Paolo Di Canio’s Black Cats at the Stadium of Light.

Goal-shy West Brom are the only side in the top flight not to score this season and face a testing trip to Craven Cottage. Fulham beat the Baggies 3-0 in this fixture last season and are 7/4 to keep a shut-out with Paddy Power. Martin Jol’s side are in the mix with Aston Villa and Liverpool, with Hull City and Southampton offering budget and mid-price options. The Tigers are 17/10 for a clean sheet at home to Cardiff, while the Saints are 11/8 with Paddy for a shut-out against Big Sam’s Hammers at St Mary’s.

If you’re new to Paddy Power, then you can take up any of these odds and get yourself a bonus. You can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register an account and bet a tenner.

Finally, of course, we should state that all these offers are only available to those aged 18 and over and are subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions. Also, if you’re going to bet, always gamble responsibly.

Not sold on Nani and Arnautovic.

Nani is a decent punt but Arnautovic is unproven and has terrible upcoming fixtures. I would look elsewhere.

I also think there is better value out there than Cech. I would prefer Migs and Ivan / Zab than Cech and Enrique

Repost (no response) - I am struggling with indecisiveness! Suggestions on these teams?

    Team 1:
    GK: Mignolet (Harper)
DEF: Zabaleta, Shaw/Kaboul, Koscielny (Chester) (B. Turner)
MID: Walcott, Lampard, HBA, Brady (Ward-Prowse)
    ATT: RVP, Soldado, Giroud

    Team 2:
    GK: Mignolet (Harper)
DEF: Vidic, Shaw/Kaboul, Koscielny (Chester) (B. Turner)
MID: Walcott, Coutinho/Michu, HBA, Brady (Ward-Prowse)
    ATT: RVP, Benteke, Giroud

    Or the craziest of all:
    Team 3:
    GK: Boruc (Harper)
DEF: Vidic, Shaw/Kaboul, Koscielny (Chester) (Baker)
MID: Walcott, Coutinho/Michu, Lampard, Brady (Ward-Prowse)
    ATT: RVP, Benteke, Giroud

    So many decisions to make!
    1) Which team would you go for?
    2) Zabaleta or Vidic?
    3) Shaw or Kaboul?
    4) Coutinho or Michu?

Any and all suggestions appreciated! 🙂

Tottenham need some creativity and goal threat which Lamela and Eriksen should provide. Both will be in the first XI soon but this week is unsure.

I think Paulinho has to be pushed back into a deep lying playmaker and Chadli / Siggy needs to hit the bench as they dont even look to involve Soldado.

1 of Eriksen and Lamela will prob start but both should feature over the course of the day.

      even if he did, he
      - doesn't speak a lick of English
      - has never played with these teammates (
      - his teammates have also never played alongside his other teammates
      - his manager has never managed 60% of the team
      - his team only scores when they win a penalty
      ....
I love Tottenham's long term prospects, but right now, for MY fpl dollar, they're a lot of show, and not much go. My advice is to sit it out, and watch their next 2-3 matches. THeir side has undoubtable talent, and when they're established, they'll be enormous. For now, they are a team of Ballacks and Schevchenkos; they "should" do a lot of things, but they haven't done them yet.

Home, where I learned the truth about despair, as will you. There's a reason why this prison is the worst hell on earth... Hope. Every man who has ventured here over the centuries has looked up to the light and imagined climbing to freedom. So easy... So simple... And like shipwrecked men turning to sea water from uncontrollable thirst, many have died trying. I learned here that there can be no true despair without hope. So, as I terrorize Gotham, I will feed its people hope to poison their souls. I will let them believe they can survive so that you can watch them clamoring over each other to "stay in the sun." You can watch me torture an entire city and when you have truly understood the depth of your failure, we will fulfill Ra's al Ghul's destiny... We will destroy Gotham and then, when it is done and Gotham is ashes, then you have my permission to die

WBA havent scored this year. Sess is a bit selfish with an inaccurate shot. WBA is a worse team atm than Sunderland of last year so i cant see him scoring well in the next 3 weeks.

Hernandez has good stats and will be on the radar in 3 weeks when their fixtures ease. Not before then though.

Depends. Brave choice with potential differential A.

Safe choice B. For me A just edges it.

Soldado, best odd to score and playing at home to a poor norwich.

Benteke is playing Newcastle also at home, and while Newcastle are having trouble bothering the opposition GK they still have kept back to back clean sheets.

If Tottenham weren't in transition I'd be with you. I'd like to see how the team gels with the new boys first. I'm also discounting the value of Newcastle's cleanies on the strength of the opposition

I've chosen Benteke (C) over Soladado due to higher ownership and likely more captainers. If Soldado has a good day and not Benteke, I won't mind so much him not being my Captain because less other players will benefit. And visa versa. Is this good logic?

I'm not sure that logic works, really. Do you want to out-perform your competition or stay equal to them?
Especially this week, RvP will be heavily captained. Assuming you don't have him, your gw rank will be based largely on whether rvp has a big day.

I don't know if I'm right but I reckon conservative captain choices have lower downside risk. When they fail, fewer people outperform you. If a differential captain choice fails, half the game can out perform you. Less upside of course but there are many other ways of outperforming the opposition than captain choice.

    Hey guys,

Got a dilemma I need some advice on.

I have taken a hit already but have Mert and Studge unlikely to play.
The players to come in are Colback and Whittaker 🙁
Should I take another hit for Colback > Brady?
    Or a new defender?

8 of my starting 11 is currently the same as yours. That being said, I don't have a Liverpool defender on my bench tempting me to bench Seamus Coleman.

Walcott, part of the reason why I am tempted to get Soldado to cover these two pretty decent fixtures. And then Luis Suarez HEEELLOOO

Which would you reckon is a more essential transfer?

    A.Ivan out for Vidic?

    OR

    B.Mirallas out for HBA?

(No other cover from the respective teams)

If you've got an itchy transfer finger then Mirallas but otherwise is hold. Everton's fixtures are pretty decent aside from Chelsea and Man City. Mirallas will start performing when he's firing balls to Lukaku

      i wouldn't call either "essential"

a - trading one rotatable CB from a UCL team for another. If you like Utd's fixtures better and you need the 0.5m somewhere else, then giddyup

b - i think that HBA is punty... he's the best on his team, but mirallas may come good. he's been unlucky. I guess it depends how you like Everton's prospects right now. Roberto Martinez likes to attack, so he's in the right spot, and has better teammates, IMO.
