With the mind-numbing international break out of the way, all eyes turn to the Premier League to assess whether any of the glittering new signings are worth a gamble on their debuts. Fantasy managers have so much to anticipate in Gameweek 4 – not least the damage that Robin van Perise can do in the early kick-off. Let’s cast an eye over Paddy Power’s assessment of the Dutchman, this week’s other likely scorers and the clean sheet hunt.

According to the traders in Power Tower, United are all set to rip into Crystal Palace. There are four of David Moyes’ squad in the top ten anytime scorers, including new boy Marouane Fellaini who is 11/8 to earn a debut goal.

Not surprisingly, it’s Van Persie who tops the list, however. With three goals for Holland over the break, he now has 18 strikes in his last 21 games for club and country and is 1/2 with Paddy to deliver the goods against Ian Holloway’s troops. Not good news for the Van Persie naysayers.

Roberto Soldado is the nearest rival to the United marksman and a player who will doubtless be carrying many an armband going into the White Hart Lane clash with Norwich. The Spaniard now has five goals in seven games for club and country since signing for Spurs. Soldado is 4/6 to score at anytime against the Canaries with Paddy.

Chelsea signing Samuel Eto’o is closer to a pension than puberty, but the Cameroonian striker is the most likely player to find the back of the net at any time in Chelsea’s clash with Everton. He can be backed at 15/8 to score a goal on his debut for Jose Mourinho’s side.

Frank Lampard scored twice on Merseyside in the corresponding fixture last season and has a goal, an assist and two clean sheets to his name already in this campaign. He’s at 23/10 with Paddy to notch in the Goodison clash – Theo Walcott, at 6/4 to score at Sunderland, is the only midfielder more fancied over the weekend fixtures. Paddy are refunding all losing first/last goalscorer, correct score and scorecast singles on this match should Lampard notch.

Clean Sheet Odds – Gameweek 4

Just as Van Persie and Soldado dominate in the anytime scorer listing, it’s United and Spurs who rank top in the clean sheet odds. Paddy Power has David Moyes’ side at 8/11 to keep out newly promoted Palace, while Spurs are evens to rack up their third clean sheet of the season.

Despite the sizeable banana skin of a Britannia clash and the absence of Vincent Kompany in the back four, City are also well fancied here, with Arsenal not far behind as they look to shut-out Paolo Di Canio’s Black Cats at the Stadium of Light.

Goal-shy West Brom are the only side in the top flight not to score this season and face a testing trip to Craven Cottage. Fulham beat the Baggies 3-0 in this fixture last season and are 7/4 to keep a shut-out with Paddy Power. Martin Jol’s side are in the mix with Aston Villa and Liverpool, with Hull City and Southampton offering budget and mid-price options. The Tigers are 17/10 for a clean sheet at home to Cardiff, while the Saints are 11/8 with Paddy for a shut-out against Big Sam’s Hammers at St Mary’s.

Chadli and ferdinand are the only no's for me.

I can see Chadli being benched in the imminent future, and Rio is sure to be rotated / miss time due to niggles.

Nasty could be a good option with Demicheles out for a while and should be 1st choice when Kompany is back. Is 5.5 your limit?

Changed my mind about my predicted lineup for Arsenal actually.

I thought instead of Sagna deputizing at CB for the ill Mertesacker and Jenkinson playing RB, Verm might come back at CB, pushing Sagna to RB and Jenks to the bench.

But articles like this one (http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/sagna-i-see-my-future-in-the-centre), where Sagna talks about how he sees his future at CB, and his strong performances at CB, really force me to take him seriously as a CB and favour him to play CB over Vermaelen at least for this game.

So I think Sagna will start CB and Jenkinson at RB.

I'll go for this predicted lineup then:

    -----------Szczesny
    Jenks Sagna Kos Gibbs
    --------Ramsey Flamini
    Walcott----Wilshere---Cazorla
    -------------Giroud

If Ozil is not too ill to play, him to play CAM and Flamini to drop out.

My back line currently looks like this:

Vidic, Shaw, Koscielny (Chester) (B. Turner) with 0.1 in the bank.

Is it worth downgrading Soldado to Benteke, then downgrading Turner to Baker in order to upgrade Shaw to Coleman? Given the fixtures I would be inclined to say no but was wondering what others thought.

On my WC, was somewhat successful in my attempt to ride a few bandwagons for free money, now I need to figure out what the hell to do with this team. How do we look?:

    Migs (Lewis)
    Vertonghen/Vidic/Zabaleta/Hangeland (Coleman)
    Yaya Toure/Brady/Barkley (Nolan/Morrison)
    RvP/Benteke/Giroud

I figure in the coming weeks I'll end up downgrading one defender (lets say to Chester) and upgrading either Nolan to a £8-10m mid or one of the budget mids to someone like Ben Arfa.

Very weak midfield IMO. Yaya was lucky with two free kicks but that's about all the attacking he did if I've read correctly. Maybe downgrade vert to walker and upgrade one of them. Could also downgrade zab to nastasic to free up more money and stay in with the city defense if you feel they'll get cleanies

This isn't a dialogue. I'm posting quotes from the manager & the player.

The irony of the whole thing becomes apparent when you look at the case for Lampard being rotated:

Against: He's played every minute of the league so far.

For: Some journalists said he would get rested before the season started.

                  How's 6 days ago & now a third source...

"The Blues have five matches in the space of two weeks when the international break finishes which means Mourinho will already be working through various combinations of midfielders he can use in the back of his mind."

"John Obi Mikel and Michael Essien could both slot into a defensive midfield position with Ramires moving forward to replace Lampard when the veteran Chelsea man does need a rest."

"Mourinho not to have to play Frank Lampard in every single game, increasing the chances of fatigue setting in for of his older and more important players."

You can either rely on the evidence, which is his actual gametime, or your personal misinterpretation of a bunch of quotes.

A 35yr old player, who's played every minute of his team's league matches & a couple of world cup qualifiers to boot, is in fact less likely to be rested.

Gotcha. You're quite right, I don't know how I didn't see this to begin with?

Relying on quotes was silly of me... should have listened to you'all the whole time.

There's some crucial assumptions you need to understand here.

Firstly, no one buys Lampard requiring him to start every Prem game. If he misses a few, fine. With penalties and his goals from open play, his 8.2 price takes care of that. It's only an issue if he starts missing a lot of games. Your point surely wasn't something blatantly obvious like "he won't start every Prem game" was it?

The other is that "rest" is not the same as "missing Prem games". It refers to all competitions and if you read the very quotes you linked, instead of trying to reinforce the conclusion you want, you'd know that.

I reckon he'll play most games. That first link is from July, which caused a lot of people to rule him out of their DGW teams. Since then Chelsea have played 4 and Lamps has played every minute.
The second link Mourinho specifically refers to the Carling Cup, so I expect he'll be rested primarily for those games.

Mate, these aren't opinion pieces... so pardon me if I hold the "quotes" form journalists in higher regard to a few opinions here.

Further, he's 35! With CL & World Cup qualifiers we cannot expect him to put in the minutes he has in the past.

Koscielny- Mid to Long term play
      Hangeland- Short term play

I'm leaning Hangeland with this run of fixtures: WBA, che, CAR, STO, cpl

Koscielny plays 4 of his next 6 on the road.

The other two won't be starting in the next 2-4 weeks.

Speculation so far due to missing a training session, and the fact that Mertesacker has been ruled out.

Ozil has travelled with the team so cant be contagious i imagine, unless they have brought him in a HazMat suit for team bonding purposes.....

I like it. Maybe a bit too much invested in defense. Downgrade Dawson or Wisdom to 4.0 defenders and upgrade the midfield. I would upgrade Brady or Barkley with the funds.

    Honest question, A or B?

A - Eriksen & Taarabt (nice home fixtures, but not sure on starts).
B - Gerrard & Whittingham (set pieces & pens, but away fixtures).

    Team (433):
    Mignolet (Marshall).
    Vidic, Koscielny, Dawson, Lovren (Collins).
Brady ___, ___ (Ben Arfa, Snodgrass).
    RVP(c), Benteke, Giroud.
