As the clock ticks down towards this morning’s deadline, we present the case for a trio of overlooked alternatives once again. A north London summer signing, a familiar face from the midlands and a maverick from the blue half of Manchester come under the microscope this time around.

Christian Eriksen

While Erik Lamela’s price tag hogged the headlines, Tottenham’s new signing from Ajax may turn out to be their canniest piece of business over the summer period. With a year left on his contract, the 21-year-old arrives in north London for a fee less than £12m and with 17 goals and 36 assists over his last two seasons in the Dutch top-flight, the Dane’s talents as a playmaker are undisputed.

Likely to be handed a fair share of set-pieces, Eriksen has a ”big possibility” of starting against Norwich this afternoon and with Lamela more likely to be introduced off the bench after a long-haul flight back from international duties, his creativity will be crucial.

With Spurs scoring just twice in the league this term – both times from the spot – Eriksen will be tasked with supporting Roberto Soldado as Villas-Boas’ side look to bounce back from their north London derby defeat and at just 8.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) in addition to 7.0 in the Sky Sports game and 4.0 in the Sun Dream Team he looks a strong contender for this afternoon and the next few weeks as Spurs look to take advantage of a schedule that also sees them square up to Cardiff, West Ham, Villa and Fulham in the next six Gameweeks.

Aleksandar Kolarov

A cult favourite around these parts, the City left-back has disappointed far more often than he’s managed to deliver over his time at the Etihad. An injury to Gael Clichy hands Kolarov centre-stage once again, though, and with a starting role away to Stoke looking guaranteed, his foraging runs down the left could come to fruition as Manuel Pellegrini’s side look to get one over former City boss Mark Hughes.

Let’s be honest – the Serbian’s acquisition is no more than a punt ahead of this morning’s deadline. There’s no convincing stats-based case for his inclusion, just the knowledge that Kolarov’s penchant for a long shot and tendency to try the spectacular can, on occasion, come up trumps. A price of 5.3 in FPL – 6.6 in the Sky Sports game – offers the cheapest route into the City backline for the Britannia clash and could appeal to those willing to roll the dice on the brilliantly unpredictable Serbian.

Gabby Agonlahor

Kept firmly in the shade by the exploits of Christian Benteke, the Villa flier has, nonetheless, made a consistent start to the domestic campaign. Agbonlahor grabbed an assist in the opening day win at Arsenal and repeated the feat four days later as the midlands outfit spoiled Chelsea’s clean sheet at the Bridge.

With his speed down the flank crucial to Paul Lambert’s tactics, Agbonlahor’s contribution looks key once again as Newcastle come calling this afternoon and, while Benteke will understandably be the focal point, his team-mate offers a budget-friendly alternative across the Fantasy games worthy of our consideration. At 7.0 in FPL, 7.7 in Sky Sports game, he looks a real under the radar option as Lambert’s men look to build on their impressive start to the season.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Is the RMT Tool broken? It is advising, and rightly so, to captain VP but to VC Benteke with a predicted score of 5.09 instead of Walcott with a predicted score of 5.28 - is VC based on more than the predicted score?

They have. There isn't much difference between 5.09 and 5.28 is there. So it's saying they'll basically get the same points, but Benteke has the edge because he's a striker.

I've seen the same with benching decisions. I think that it is because there is a non-zero chance of players not playing that is factored into the expected score. But assuming player x plays, his expected score would be higher...
In your case, walcott had a knock that he is just getting over, so there is a chace he could not be fit. Assuming that he plays, RMT thinks that he will outscore Benteke.

    Third time lucky maybe ...

    Scez

    Coleman - Zabs - TOURE - Chester - (Whitaker)

    Coutinho - Snodgrass - SILVA - Walcott - Miralles

    Soldado - Sturridge - Anelka

So it's evident I need to do something. But what?

    (A) KEEP Toure - Silva + Anelka > Brady + Giroud/Benteke(-4)
    (B) MOVE Toure + Silva + Anelka > Vidic + Brady + Giroud/Benteke (-8)

Surely Giroud for the long run, no?

Also just as lost as everyone regarding the prospects of Toure > Wisdom/Kelly although in the long run I might just pull Toure for Sakho.

Option (B) is simply to make me feel better for having no Man Utd players. MUN basically guaranteed a CS, but worth going -4 for? Would draft in a MUN player for GW6 onwards anyway - Vidic most likely.

    Thought I'd repost this as a new article is bound to bring around the same/similar questions. Hopefully this will stop the same questions being asked for the next hour although I highly doubt it;

    Merts didn't travel to Sunderland
Sturridge is due to be fit for Monday night
Lamela is due to be on the bench if AVB can be believed

Silva is price protected until 11:31 as he was red flagged

    Silva Options;
    Coutinho if no Sturridge
    Walcott if no Giroud
Michu now his price has fallen
JWP/Brady if you're trying to get RVP in your team

Boruc has the better fixture than Migs

Play Coleman if you're a form player play Chester if you're a fixtures player

RVP remains the standout captaincy option, but if you don't own him Benteke, Soldado, Giroud and Walcott are all good (C) options, although the bookies make Soldado the favourite to score

At this stage it's only really worth taking a hit to bring in RVP, hits to move out Sturridge/Silva if you have playable options on the bench mean you are looking for your transfer in to score at least +7pts for it to be worth +1pt more (assuming your replacement gets 2pts)

    Maybe this will help

I would focus more on your back line... this year, defenders will make much more points off the bonus system. Have 2 or 3 reliable starters in there will earn you a lot of points in the long run. You could drop Hangeland and Dawson, drop Migs for a 4.0 keeper (maybe SOU backup). and pickup two quality 6.0 defs like Walker, Zab, or Enrique.

Just don't get the love for lamps:

    1) Playing deeper
    2) Threat from JM rotation

On pens, has played every minute so far, relatively cheap, proven history of fantasy pedigree

Takes corners, free kicks & pens. Despite playing deeper has still shown a decent goal threat. And bar the odd game here and there, I can see Lamps being a permanent fixture

Silva out, Kolo most likely fit, Sturridge less likely. Merte out, so is Clichy
