We’re woken from the international break snooze by a early kick-off that threatens to divide Gameweek fortunes. United’s Old Trafford clash with Crystal Palace is expected to be one-sided, with David Moyes’ men waking from their own slumber to put two consecutive blanks behind them with the Premier League new boys bearing the brunt.

Robin van Persie is lined up to be the main damage dealer but, with Wayne Rooney unexpectedly named in the starting XI, there is a joker in the pack, perhaps destined to fuel an old Fantasy debate. Could Rooney’s return overshadow a haul from the Dutchman? Can Ian Holloway’s side frustrate and keep the pair at bay? We’ll have our answers within two hours, from a match that looks set to have a big say in how our Gameweek shapes up.

Rooney’s inclusion is not the only surprise in the United lineup. Fabio is the man drafted in to fill the void left by injuries to Phil Jones and brother, Rafael. A largely forgotten figure, he will start at right-back. Anderson is another player brought in from the cold by Moyes; the Brazilian starts in midfield with Marouane Fellaini made to wait for his debut – he’s on the United bench. With Antonio Valencia starting ahead of Ryan Giggs, there’s no place amongst the substitutes for either Nani nor Shinji Kagawa, despite both being tipped to figure by this morning’s press.

As for Palace, they make just one change. Adrian Mariappa arrives to earn a baptism of fire. He slots into the back four and, significantly, it’s budget asset, Joel Ward, who drops out.

Our Dugout Discussion Chatroom is now open to cater for your real-time needs during this match and will remain available right through to the late kick-off at Goodison.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

That was a disgraceful decision. Not a foul, not in the box, not a red, Young is just basically shit at dribbling. He ran into the defender. I support United and have rvp as captain, so I benefit, but still feel bad for crystal palace. This was a scare though...i don't think i trust my rvp points on Moyes.

Out for Lukaku will free up 7m to upgrade my midfield.

I think Young was already losing his footing, as always. They literally just touched, that was it. Young would have fell regardless. No one seems to agree with me though...hmm

It's an illegal push which gets him out of balance from a clear, goal scoring opportunity. Hence the red card. Is it a penalty? Probably outside.

Indeed...but do you captain Soldado week in, week out with the same confidence?

It's not yet about output, it's about the armband for me. Non RvP owners will be split between Benteke and Soldado this week - they now both have to score or some of the non owners will trail RvP captainers.

Get RvP and, rightly and wrongly, the decision is made for most of the next few Gameweeks - not have him and you have more options but you have to get the selection right.

The thing is, it's not really about whether RVP scores or not - of course he's going to. It's whether he scores MORE than the 2 extra quality players I can have in my team without him.

The thing is that 43% owns RVP and most captained player every gameweek. If he scores big (and he will more often than not) you'll get left behind by a lot of teams. And even if he blanks, there is no guarantee that your captain won't blank as well (I had Silva C gw3 for example). It's just too much to lose.

To be honest with you, Locarno, I may well be selling this week anyway.

Do I really want to be fretting every week that my £14m striker is going to score or not? Last season you kind of knew RVP would score, but this season it looks far from certain...

Definitely up there. Turned into such a prat.

...its a shame because i used to think so highly of him when he played for Villa - he still looked for free kicks (not to the extent of his utd days) but he had so much more to his game. HE used to score great goals, his delivery from set pieces was superb, he tracked back, tackled, worked and beat players all day long.

I agree, he was a very good player when he was at Villa. Unfortunately he has regressed massively as a player at Utd and is forced to rely on his ability to cheat his way to penalties in an effort to mask his overall sh*tness.

I just think he's shit. He runs with the ball like Walcott, rather than dribbling, so he kicks it ahead of him and runs waywardly into plays and legs and feet that are often far away from him. He genuinely believes he's been fouled, if you look at his face afterwards. He was on a 45% angle before he was even touched this time.

He is shit now, no doubt about it. But trying to stay on the edge of objectivity he used to have other facets to his game which made him a good player. Those facets have now gone and we are left with a cheating little scumbag.

Penalty looked like the only way Utd were scoring to be honest with you.

Thought it was harsh decision and as there were a few defenders around Young the ref could have been lenient on him.

One imagines Palace will just park the bus in the 2nd half for damage limitation purposes now though.
