We’re woken from the international break snooze by a early kick-off that threatens to divide Gameweek fortunes. United’s Old Trafford clash with Crystal Palace is expected to be one-sided, with David Moyes’ men waking from their own slumber to put two consecutive blanks behind them with the Premier League new boys bearing the brunt.

Robin van Persie is lined up to be the main damage dealer but, with Wayne Rooney unexpectedly named in the starting XI, there is a joker in the pack, perhaps destined to fuel an old Fantasy debate. Could Rooney’s return overshadow a haul from the Dutchman? Can Ian Holloway’s side frustrate and keep the pair at bay? We’ll have our answers within two hours, from a match that looks set to have a big say in how our Gameweek shapes up.

Rooney’s inclusion is not the only surprise in the United lineup. Fabio is the man drafted in to fill the void left by injuries to Phil Jones and brother, Rafael. A largely forgotten figure, he will start at right-back. Anderson is another player brought in from the cold by Moyes; the Brazilian starts in midfield with Marouane Fellaini made to wait for his debut – he’s on the United bench. With Antonio Valencia starting ahead of Ryan Giggs, there’s no place amongst the substitutes for either Nani nor Shinji Kagawa, despite both being tipped to figure by this morning’s press.

As for Palace, they make just one change. Adrian Mariappa arrives to earn a baptism of fire. He slots into the back four and, significantly, it’s budget asset, Joel Ward, who drops out.

Our Dugout Discussion Chatroom is now open to cater for your real-time needs during this match and will remain available right through to the late kick-off at Goodison.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Sorry, folks, but as an RVP owner I can't justify £14m for him anymore.

Utd look poor under Moyes and on the showing I've seen so far I think Utd will struggle to even make it into the top 4.

This isn't the attacking juggernaut of last season and Utd's inability to do anything meaningful during the transfer window to a midfield that relied on players who peaked a decade ago has exposed their lack of creativity up the middle.

Its got to be sale time for me, I'm afraid.

Consider me converted to the 'RVP is too expensive and not essential this year' side of the argument.

You could say that about most strikers though.

Moyes is in way over his head in my opinion. It was a stupid appointment and I can only see Utd slipping behind the chasing pack now.

For £14m you are entitled to expect a damn sight more than a lucky penalty against 10 men and one of if not the poorest side in this division.

I know what you're saying, but I'm going to give him more GW's after taking the plunge on a WC. Fixtures are too good. He could've scored more today. Moyes needs to sort out his team though. They don't look confident to me.

Oddly, I'm considering using my WC to get rid of him.

Like we used to say last season, no point having great fixtures if you don't do anything with them. Lets be honest about it, if it wasn't for that penalty Utd would have been lucky to have won today. Palace looked overmatched but comfortable today and that is what is worrying.

RVP is a terrific striker but he can't do it on his own and his supporting cast at Utd this year don't look up to the job. It doesn't help that Moyes doesn't seem to know his best team either.

There's a reason why non RVP owners are leading this thing this season....

Could / should have scored 2 or 3 easily today... massive over reaction. I thought Utd looked fine, they completely dominated the game. When RVP starts firing properly and if Rooney stays on this path, I don't see any problems with them.

The problem is that United have a bunch of easy fixtures after the city game and rvp's chances will depend on service, and that service will massively improve if Kagawa, Nani, and Januzaj get more game time, which could happen. But you're right...he's out for me.

For me the issue isn't that RvP won't score many goals, it's more that there is a lot of striking options this year where as last year it was all about the big mids. Even without RvP I'm struggling to decide who I want Sturridge/Tekkers/Giroud/Soldado and perhaps Lukaku soon are all good options, will RvP really justify the extra, surely any mix of the above 4 will will score enough + the extra 4.5 in value elsewhere on ones team.

    Killian here from PlayON,

At present, we don't award an assist for people that win penalties / free kicks that result in goals. However we are looking for feedback on this so very quick survey:

    Reply below:

Should an assist be awarded to the person that wins the penalty / free kick:

    0 = no
    1 = yes

Just a point of contention, I thought that no game winning goal BPS point was awarded if the margin of victory was by more than one goal, but last week I do think Negredo received a game winning goal BPS point despite City winning 2-0, because he scored to make it 1-0 (Yaya scored the second).

Could push RVP to 9 BPS.

In which case 11 10 9 9 (RVP) would mean 1 bonus for RVP.

They sometimes do adjust BPS in the hour after the game to accommoate corrections in OPTA stats, so this isn't for certain.

Nah. Just pulling a few legs.

A goal a game is a good return over the season.

i think a "winning goal" is only awarded when its the last goal where there is only 1 between them.

What are people spending the RVP money may I ask?

Unless a big hitter in mid park emerges then there's no point selling.

They're destroying the long established FPL template of a 3-4-3, that has been the tried and tested optimal formation EVERY season I've ever played, and loading up at the back.

Wildcards will flutter when this season's scores revert to the mean, and they need to reinvest upfront again.

You'll have the goldfish brigade buying Rooney.
The point chasers buying this week's big scorers ready for next week.
And then you'll have those that stick with RvP like they (should have) intended to for his 6/7 weeks of decent fixtures. Remembering this was more long term and not overreacting.

Oh, and someone's bound to replace him with Chamakh.

Took massive hits to transfer Rooney in, then massive hits more because news media said he was dying from his wounds and it would be a miracle if he plays the Manchester derby...

Would of like to maybe see more Rvp goals but let's think about this. The whole point of having Rvp is a consistent capt choice and he's proved his worth again today. There's nothing worse than having a capt score 2 points so after the manc derby I ca see Rvp picking up some decent points for the 5-6 weeks after that.
