Sergio Aguero’s brace ensures David Moyes has a Manchester derby debut to forget. Stoke’s new Austrian buy arrives on the Fantasy radar, while injuries to Robin Van Persie and Theo Walcott ruffle the feathers and may well prove the catalyst for a selling spree across the Fantasy games…

The Game Changer

Sergio Aguero’s deadly double ensured David Moyes had a debut Manchester derby to forget. While the pre-game buzz surrounded Robin Van Persie’s groin injury withdrawal, the plaudits went the Argentine’s way after he helped steer City to a comprehensive victory at the Etihad.

Having produced a goal and assist in the midweek Champions League win over Viktoria Plzen, Aguero’s form ensured he kept his place as Manuel Pellegrini opted to partner him with Alvaro Negredo and dropped Edin Dzeko to the bench. After a hugely underwhelming second season in Manchester, Aguero is starting to hint at the form that made him such a Fantasy sensation back in 2011/12 – it’s three goals, two assists and six Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points now, with this afternoon’s haul moving him to second in the forward standings.

Aguero has now scored or assisted in three of his four league starts under Pellegrini and with the City boss determined to go on the offensive this term, his side have already racked up 12 goals – five more than any other team bar Arsenal. Given that the only time City have drawn a blank was in Gameweek 4 – when Aguero was omitted from the starting XI – it’s becoming clear that, in spite of his plethora of attacking options, Pellegrini’s chances of picking up the silverware may well lie on the little Argentine’s shoulders.

The Underused

Handed a first start by Mark Hughes at the Emirates earlier today, Marko Arnautovic was initially utilised on the left of the Potters midfield as Matt Etherington made way for the talented Austrian. His superb volley off the woodwork, which led to Geoff Cameron’s consolation, earned the former Werder Bremen man an assist but it was his move to the lone forward role later in the game that will be of particular interest to Fantasy managers.

Hughes’ decision to withdraw Kenwyne Jones allowed Arnautovic to shift up front and perhaps hints at his thinking as he looks to integrate the new boy into his XI. Listed as a midfielder, Arnautovic – coming in at 5.5 in FPL with an ownership of just 0.1% – could be a potential out of position prospect ahead of a run of six enticing games (NOR, ful, WBA, mun, SOU, swa, SUN) in the next seven.

The Selection Poser

After Christian Benteke’s early withdrawal yesterday, the Gameweek went from bad to worse for many this afternoon. Theo Walcott’s late call-off for Arsenal was followed by Robin Van Persie’s omission from United’s trip to the Etihad as a couple of the weekend’s main armband contenders failed to show, forcing many Fantasy managers to rely on the points accrued from cut-price bench fodder.

Certainly, the early prognosis on both Van Persie and Walcott remains optimistic. David Moyes has insisted the Dutchman could be back as soon as the midweek Capital One Cup clash against Liverpool, while Arsene Wenger is hopeful Walcott will only be out for a matter of days.

The issue for Fantasy managers here is whether to ignore the volatile markets and ride out any potential price drops. This season, in particular, has seen significant activity and with both United and Arsenal set for strong schedules, Wayne Rooney and Mesut Ozil offer obvious alternatives to their respective team-mates. Van Persie, with an ownership in excess of 43%, could be set for significant sales if he fails to recover quickly, while Walcott’s 15% ownership – currently the tenth highest for midfielders – is falling since this afternoon’s withdrawal. There’s no doubt the pair, despite indifferent starts, will come good again but as wildcards are wielded frantically and the transfers out rack up, keeping calm amidst the knee-jerking mayhem after a hugely frustrating week like this is proving the ultimate test of patience.

I don't mean to be rude, but I think there's a bit too much 'group think' happening in this forum, and if a few players fail, everyone does poorly. This week was a bit of an odd one, but there were points to be had, and it seemed a lot of people struggled with similar squads

If I do decide to transfer this week, I was thinking of Lukaku and Baines for Benteke and Coleman/koscielny? Not sure having 2 Everton defence out of 3 is a wise move either?

Essential if RVP is out sure. Now United just need to start Kagawa in behind Rooney and their form will start to pick up.

I'm getting #1 this week first, and if the Benteke light shines brightly enough tomorrow, I'll take a hit to get both, but alas if not, I'll plunder on with the Soldado experience for another week and ship Benteke to get the masster of disasster, the expletive of excrement, the cretin from the southern continent, the douche bag to end all douche bags, and the guy who had more games with 2 or more goals last season than any other player. http://www.football-lineups.com/tourn/FA_Premier_League_2012-2013/stats/

#1 Rooney? Spurs have a lot of goals in them and that's what is tempting. Once again, he had 3 big chances...could have had a brace atleast.

Have a look at goals and assists for Stu/Suarez from Jan. Last time I checked, I remember it was very close. The thing is Suarez creates for himself and others despite scoring goals but Stu will never create, all about shooting and firing 'em in.

I'll take the one who creates as well. It's a 1 point difference between goals & assists for strikers. Very happy for those who are happy with Sturridge. I wouldn't ante up 10.9 if I didn't think it would bear premium fruit. The weeks when you have a captain with 2 or more goals really helps your overall score.

Oh. I disagree. The entire offense runs through him. He's going to rack up assists. His passing accuracy is going to rack up BAPs. And, then, he's going to start getting goals. As long as he stays healthy, he'll easily score 35 more points than anyone else on Arsenal for the season.

I think Barfa is good value. OOP (sorta) and penos. Moses, not so much.

I am not sold on erisken yet. For me, he competes with Barfa and I like Barfa more now.

For me, no, Evra is not worth .5 more. I like vidic for set pieces.

      Ivanovic (Chelsea's best striker)
      Mertisacker (fixtures + Ozil FK's)
Barkley/Brady (solid budget options and they rotate if you chose both)

The rest are contentious but Suarez, Sturridge, Oscar and HBA are all good options

If you are going 4 at the back may i suggest getting Brady Barkley and Whittingham as they are a great 3 way rotation and some weeks can even play 2/3 of them if your defence has a hard fixture.

    A) Baker to Wilson?
    B) Baker to Clyne?
    C) Baker to Ferdinand?

A and B will allow me to do Shelvey to Moses / Barkley / Ramsey / Arnautovic next week
C will limit me to do Shelvey to Arnautovic

    Mignolet / Daniels
    Zabaleta / Coleman / Collins / Chester / Baker

Brady to a 4.4 or 4.5 playing mid to make the bench choice easy, Wilson to a 4.0 (burner?), that will put 1.4? or so in the bank for future transactions. "Plan for the future, today"©

I have had budget mids at 4.5 who have twice stranded themselves to the bench. I think shelling out an extra 0.6 for a slightly on-form mid at 5.1 wouldn't hurt much. Had Burner but Wilson at 4.5 seems a good deal with Stoke's looking good defensively.

Believe me, I am planning for the future. 😉

So, which attacker are you benching this week? Brady surely plays home to west ham. Moses surely plays vs sunderland.. The rest should play based on price alone! That's why I can't stand having 8 players I don't want to bench!

R Morrison is an easy choice to bench at 4.4! And he scores 🙂

Brady at the start considered by many a cheap budget at 5.0 and he will remain so. Morrison is a very good option too as I've been trying to get details off him since I played wildcard. Will see.

United and City (to a lesser degree) defenses both look leaky at the moment and Zabaleta might get rotated with Richards.

I like both Ivanovic and Walker since both are very involved in attacks and both Chelsea and Spurs have solid midfielder protecting good defenses.. Since Ivanovic is more expensive and widely-owned, Walker seems more of a differential here.

HoH, if Ozil is essential, which option. I have no urgent transfers this week.

    1) Walcott to Ozil
    2) Sturridge or Giroud to Rooney.

It's so lateral though.... and Walcott has looked brilliant every game (and I have watched every game!)

I agree. Walcott has looked good and like he could go off.

But no one has more assists than Ozil in the last 5 years. And now, the guy is on the perfect team for him, and the offense is running through him, and the new BAPs system is tailor made for him (rewarding passing accuracy).

depends a bit on the rest of your team, but I'd rather do 1... and if I wasn't getting the crazy man and then coming up .1 or .2 short, I'd do #1 too... and still might for a hit if Tekkers is healthy

don't think RVP will be out still next weekend and don't think in-form Rooney is as essential... you can get similar production out of Sturridge & Giroud for less

He may get a pile of assists, but I want midfielders who will score goals. Michu, Walcott, etc.
Getting three assists in a game is a real anomaly...
I just hope that I'm right.
