Sergio Aguero’s brace ensures David Moyes has a Manchester derby debut to forget. Stoke’s new Austrian buy arrives on the Fantasy radar, while injuries to Robin Van Persie and Theo Walcott ruffle the feathers and may well prove the catalyst for a selling spree across the Fantasy games…

The Game Changer

Sergio Aguero’s deadly double ensured David Moyes had a debut Manchester derby to forget. While the pre-game buzz surrounded Robin Van Persie’s groin injury withdrawal, the plaudits went the Argentine’s way after he helped steer City to a comprehensive victory at the Etihad.

Having produced a goal and assist in the midweek Champions League win over Viktoria Plzen, Aguero’s form ensured he kept his place as Manuel Pellegrini opted to partner him with Alvaro Negredo and dropped Edin Dzeko to the bench. After a hugely underwhelming second season in Manchester, Aguero is starting to hint at the form that made him such a Fantasy sensation back in 2011/12 – it’s three goals, two assists and six Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points now, with this afternoon’s haul moving him to second in the forward standings.

Aguero has now scored or assisted in three of his four league starts under Pellegrini and with the City boss determined to go on the offensive this term, his side have already racked up 12 goals – five more than any other team bar Arsenal. Given that the only time City have drawn a blank was in Gameweek 4 – when Aguero was omitted from the starting XI – it’s becoming clear that, in spite of his plethora of attacking options, Pellegrini’s chances of picking up the silverware may well lie on the little Argentine’s shoulders.

The Underused

Handed a first start by Mark Hughes at the Emirates earlier today, Marko Arnautovic was initially utilised on the left of the Potters midfield as Matt Etherington made way for the talented Austrian. His superb volley off the woodwork, which led to Geoff Cameron’s consolation, earned the former Werder Bremen man an assist but it was his move to the lone forward role later in the game that will be of particular interest to Fantasy managers.

Hughes’ decision to withdraw Kenwyne Jones allowed Arnautovic to shift up front and perhaps hints at his thinking as he looks to integrate the new boy into his XI. Listed as a midfielder, Arnautovic – coming in at 5.5 in FPL with an ownership of just 0.1% – could be a potential out of position prospect ahead of a run of six enticing games (NOR, ful, WBA, mun, SOU, swa, SUN) in the next seven.

The Selection Poser

After Christian Benteke’s early withdrawal yesterday, the Gameweek went from bad to worse for many this afternoon. Theo Walcott’s late call-off for Arsenal was followed by Robin Van Persie’s omission from United’s trip to the Etihad as a couple of the weekend’s main armband contenders failed to show, forcing many Fantasy managers to rely on the points accrued from cut-price bench fodder.

Certainly, the early prognosis on both Van Persie and Walcott remains optimistic. David Moyes has insisted the Dutchman could be back as soon as the midweek Capital One Cup clash against Liverpool, while Arsene Wenger is hopeful Walcott will only be out for a matter of days.

The issue for Fantasy managers here is whether to ignore the volatile markets and ride out any potential price drops. This season, in particular, has seen significant activity and with both United and Arsenal set for strong schedules, Wayne Rooney and Mesut Ozil offer obvious alternatives to their respective team-mates. Van Persie, with an ownership in excess of 43%, could be set for significant sales if he fails to recover quickly, while Walcott’s 15% ownership – currently the tenth highest for midfielders – is falling since this afternoon’s withdrawal. There’s no doubt the pair, despite indifferent starts, will come good again but as wildcards are wielded frantically and the transfers out rack up, keeping calm amidst the knee-jerking mayhem after a hugely frustrating week like this is proving the ultimate test of patience.

    My First Fantasy season and i've hit a brick wall, did terrible the last 2 weeks and took an -8 hit last week in a hope to change things. My finger has been on the WC button all morning, should I take it?

    Migs, Davis
    Ivan, Coleman, Chester, Murner, Collins
    Mirallas, Michu, Eriksen, Wally, Jedinak
    Benteke, Giroud, Soldado

    If it's slow and steady wins the race should I consider this -4 point hit?

    Mirallas -> Moses
    Benteke/Soldado -> Rooney

    239 Points and coming 12th in my league at work, Halp!

    Any help appreciated, Cheers.

    Dont have a Manu OR pool attacker and they look the only viable captain choices this week 😯
    Benteke/Soldado to Suarez/Rooney has to be done depending on injury news

        :sigh: .. He's been a fixture for me since January. My favorite fpl player of all time. Gonna be so weird not seeing him in my team. If he's out for just 2 GW's i may keep as i got Brady to cover and swap Soldado out instead(not keen on that either)

    Summary of my weekend.

    Logic:

    1. Lampard Plays 70 minutes CL – Expect him to start and get a very good return vs Fulham
    2. Walcott(VC), Numerous chances in recent games. Scored in CL – Potential for excellent return after Liverpool vs Stoke stats.
    3. Giroud – As above
    4. RVP - Derby usually high scoring
    5. Benteke C
    6. Vidic - Goal threat – Potential for derby
    7. Mignolet – Very high potential for cleanie vs Soton at anfield
    8. HBA vs Hull city – Huge potential
    9. Substutes for Decent return of at least 4 points for two players

    Reality:

    1. 11 minute Cameo – 1 Point
    2. Does not play – 0 Points
    3. FAIL – 2 points
    4. Doesnt start - 0
    5. Huge Fail – 2 point Captain
    6. 0 points
    7. Fail
    8. Fail
    9. Chester – Substitute + Injured – 1 point, JWP – Cameo – 1 point.

          Just looked at your team now. Yeah with 3 non playing defenders that's priority no.1. SOldado out for Giroud or Lukaku or someone and invest the money in defence. Nani out when you can though.

      Keep Walcott. Nani might get a game seeing how bad Young was.
      Soldado and one of the defenders needs to go for sure.

      Hey mate been ages. I was almost exact same rank in gw6 a couple years ago 😮
      Concentrate on Nani and Wally (if out) first. Fix it slowly and completely ignore your rank until christmas 😉

      Terrible transfers... About as sideways you could get. Wouldn't even consider it unless on a WC.

    Not happy with my team and I notice that the transfer market looks pretty active (Ozil, Rambo already on 10% rise again during DZ)

    Bought 3 players (-8) who rose last night, so might as well WC this week

    Early thoughts on this 'front heavy' team?

    Boruc, Davis
    Williams Wilson 4.5 4.0 4.0
    Ozil Walcott Michu Arnautovic 4.5
    RVP Suarez 7.4 (Lukaku/Remy)

    RVP is downgradable to Rooney (waiting for midweek Carling Cup), extra cash to upgrade defenders
    possibly 0.5 can be made from 'trading the market' this week

    Thoughts?

            Just Soldado to Rooney and Snod to Bradley in 2 weeks.

        Would wanna bench him only for 3 games till GW 23 to be honest..
        GW 8, 12 and 13
        (Manu, Chelsea and Arsenal away).. Might be worth gettin Davis and savin the 0.5 in that case

    hi all

    (a) Soldado --> Rooney

    or

    (b) Walcott ---> Ozil

    or

    (c) 8 point hit to get both Roo and Ozil
    Soldado --> Rooney
    Walcott ---> Ozil
    Vorm --> Boruc or Sturridge/Giroud ----> Lukaku/Remy

        just did RVP to Rooney to free up funds.

        have just enough for Chester to Baines.

        with the new BP system, feel he is worth the price. Have Coleman as well.

        overkill?

    Just had a look through the Scout Contributors League.

    Top of the table Andy played his W/C last week and ended up with a team not a million miles away from mine. A team which at this moment in time I want to hurt.

    Funny old game isn't it.

    Must. Not. Knee. Jerk. Save. W/C.
