Sergio Aguero’s brace ensures David Moyes has a Manchester derby debut to forget. Stoke’s new Austrian buy arrives on the Fantasy radar, while injuries to Robin Van Persie and Theo Walcott ruffle the feathers and may well prove the catalyst for a selling spree across the Fantasy games…

The Game Changer

Sergio Aguero’s deadly double ensured David Moyes had a debut Manchester derby to forget. While the pre-game buzz surrounded Robin Van Persie’s groin injury withdrawal, the plaudits went the Argentine’s way after he helped steer City to a comprehensive victory at the Etihad.

Having produced a goal and assist in the midweek Champions League win over Viktoria Plzen, Aguero’s form ensured he kept his place as Manuel Pellegrini opted to partner him with Alvaro Negredo and dropped Edin Dzeko to the bench. After a hugely underwhelming second season in Manchester, Aguero is starting to hint at the form that made him such a Fantasy sensation back in 2011/12 – it’s three goals, two assists and six Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points now, with this afternoon’s haul moving him to second in the forward standings.

Aguero has now scored or assisted in three of his four league starts under Pellegrini and with the City boss determined to go on the offensive this term, his side have already racked up 12 goals – five more than any other team bar Arsenal. Given that the only time City have drawn a blank was in Gameweek 4 – when Aguero was omitted from the starting XI – it’s becoming clear that, in spite of his plethora of attacking options, Pellegrini’s chances of picking up the silverware may well lie on the little Argentine’s shoulders.

The Underused

Handed a first start by Mark Hughes at the Emirates earlier today, Marko Arnautovic was initially utilised on the left of the Potters midfield as Matt Etherington made way for the talented Austrian. His superb volley off the woodwork, which led to Geoff Cameron’s consolation, earned the former Werder Bremen man an assist but it was his move to the lone forward role later in the game that will be of particular interest to Fantasy managers.

Hughes’ decision to withdraw Kenwyne Jones allowed Arnautovic to shift up front and perhaps hints at his thinking as he looks to integrate the new boy into his XI. Listed as a midfielder, Arnautovic – coming in at 5.5 in FPL with an ownership of just 0.1% – could be a potential out of position prospect ahead of a run of six enticing games (NOR, ful, WBA, mun, SOU, swa, SUN) in the next seven.

The Selection Poser

After Christian Benteke’s early withdrawal yesterday, the Gameweek went from bad to worse for many this afternoon. Theo Walcott’s late call-off for Arsenal was followed by Robin Van Persie’s omission from United’s trip to the Etihad as a couple of the weekend’s main armband contenders failed to show, forcing many Fantasy managers to rely on the points accrued from cut-price bench fodder.

Certainly, the early prognosis on both Van Persie and Walcott remains optimistic. David Moyes has insisted the Dutchman could be back as soon as the midweek Capital One Cup clash against Liverpool, while Arsene Wenger is hopeful Walcott will only be out for a matter of days.

The issue for Fantasy managers here is whether to ignore the volatile markets and ride out any potential price drops. This season, in particular, has seen significant activity and with both United and Arsenal set for strong schedules, Wayne Rooney and Mesut Ozil offer obvious alternatives to their respective team-mates. Van Persie, with an ownership in excess of 43%, could be set for significant sales if he fails to recover quickly, while Walcott’s 15% ownership – currently the tenth highest for midfielders – is falling since this afternoon’s withdrawal. There’s no doubt the pair, despite indifferent starts, will come good again but as wildcards are wielded frantically and the transfers out rack up, keeping calm amidst the knee-jerking mayhem after a hugely frustrating week like this is proving the ultimate test of patience.

🙂 .. to be fair my team was in disarray 2 weeks ago and over that time i sacrificed 4 points and got Brady, Hba and Michu in for Snoddy, Kim and Silva. Still got Toure(not that worried now), 2 west ham defenders(Reid to Wilson next week), Cech(to Davis this week) and Benteke(injured, to Rooney/Suarez with the freed up cash from the Cech downgrade) and Soldado(might as well give him a chance) so i'm not in WC territory. You dont seem to be in it either

          Sir if I may,

I don't think those above were saying your question was complicated, just that asking if that transfer is wise in a vacuum, without knowledge of the rest of your team, lessens the value of the advice given, as knowing you have and don't have is the only way to give your request any context.

    The front 8 atm are:

    Eriksen, Walcott, Michu, Snodgrass, Thomas
    Lambert, Giroud, Benteke

Have 4.5m in the bank and 1 FT, what to do:

Or shall I just keep Soldado for now?

    Mignolet, Given

    Vidic, Coleman, Turner, Turner, Chester

    Walcott, Lampard, HBA, Whittingham, Brady

Just Walcott a doubt. Make 1 move and you are fine.

Here's a thought. Wait until we get injury updates.. Walcott could be fine. If benteke out get Rooney in for him. Soldado still a good option. 2 4.0 defenders who's potential is between 1-6 points (mostly 1) is not a big problem. Anyway i'm outta here. too much panicking for my likin

I hear you. I have all those and Rvp as well. Have absolutely no idea what to do next. Was feeling good about keeping my WC but it may not last another day though hate that I have missed first night of price rises if I do play it. Alternative is to do a hit for Walcott + benteke > a number of pretty good combos and hope your other defenders play.

I don't want to wildcard yet either and, in fairness, the time to have started it was on Saturday night if we were going to do it this GW.

There could still be injuries in the cup games midweek that may focus our attention on other areas of our teams.

However, I can't keep limping on hoping the likes of RVP, Soldado, Walcott are finally going to actually justify their whopping values and places in my team.

At the moment I'm targeting GW8 WC but worried that even then may be too late.

Unmitigated disaster a averted by a flukey Michu captaincy but otherwise one clean sheet and one assist and injuries piling up.

    Problems: RvP, Benteke, Chester, Koren

Thought of wcing as I have some rubbish hanging around as well but if I can patch up for -8 would you go for the wc or the patch?

        Ditto me too.

Holding off WC at moment as plan was to do it during Gw8 international break.

But losing patience with my team real quickly.

Thanks. Thinking of a couple of hits and hoping like hell rvp will be ok, I can scrape through like that.

The wc team looks ace though sans RvP...

if no other problems(lol.. like that's possible) get out.. If other areas of worry keep without worrying too much. Gr8 fixtures and things will turn in his favor soon

Needs to start scoring. Is getting chances but not putting them away.

Thats not a good combination in FPL, I'm afraid.

I think he looked sharp and will start to score regularly soon. Wont see much in the way of assists beyond shots saved and scored on the rebound mind you as he is all about creating space and taking the shot. Whether he is worth the money with some of the alternatives is questionable.

    Important questions:-

    1. Any news on RVP? Expected to be fit next game?
    2. Any news on Benteke? Expected to be fit next game?
    3. How long is Chester out for?
    4. Status of K Toure - he started yesterday and expected to retain place?

basicly i lost 0.3M in 1 day cause of bla bla bla your stupid fantasy football , you need more time for me bla bla bla so i didnt check total fpl in evning

    i am so damn frustrated

anyways i am down to 70k and taking first points hit this gw

    Lampard and Soldado out

If she's doing that now imagine what she'll do with wife privileges.

I'd transfer, even for a hit.

Everyone ships soldado out. I think he is a proven goalscorer, on a good team, good fixtures, on penalties, no rotation - on appear he is ideal for FPL.

So here's my team for the next gameweek:

      Vorm, Stekelenburg
      Coleman, Shaw, Mertesacker, Amorebieta, Zabaleta
Eriksen, Mirallas, Walcott, Ben Arfa, Barkley
      Giroud, Soldado, Benteke

      0.3MIB, 1 FT

I'm really considering pressing the wildcard button. Please tell me whether I should do it or not. Or should I rather take some hits to improve my team? Thanks in advance guys! Im desperate 🙁
