Sergio Aguero’s brace ensures David Moyes has a Manchester derby debut to forget. Stoke’s new Austrian buy arrives on the Fantasy radar, while injuries to Robin Van Persie and Theo Walcott ruffle the feathers and may well prove the catalyst for a selling spree across the Fantasy games…

The Game Changer

Sergio Aguero’s deadly double ensured David Moyes had a debut Manchester derby to forget. While the pre-game buzz surrounded Robin Van Persie’s groin injury withdrawal, the plaudits went the Argentine’s way after he helped steer City to a comprehensive victory at the Etihad.

Having produced a goal and assist in the midweek Champions League win over Viktoria Plzen, Aguero’s form ensured he kept his place as Manuel Pellegrini opted to partner him with Alvaro Negredo and dropped Edin Dzeko to the bench. After a hugely underwhelming second season in Manchester, Aguero is starting to hint at the form that made him such a Fantasy sensation back in 2011/12 – it’s three goals, two assists and six Fantasy Premier League (FPL) bonus points now, with this afternoon’s haul moving him to second in the forward standings.

Aguero has now scored or assisted in three of his four league starts under Pellegrini and with the City boss determined to go on the offensive this term, his side have already racked up 12 goals – five more than any other team bar Arsenal. Given that the only time City have drawn a blank was in Gameweek 4 – when Aguero was omitted from the starting XI – it’s becoming clear that, in spite of his plethora of attacking options, Pellegrini’s chances of picking up the silverware may well lie on the little Argentine’s shoulders.

The Underused

Handed a first start by Mark Hughes at the Emirates earlier today, Marko Arnautovic was initially utilised on the left of the Potters midfield as Matt Etherington made way for the talented Austrian. His superb volley off the woodwork, which led to Geoff Cameron’s consolation, earned the former Werder Bremen man an assist but it was his move to the lone forward role later in the game that will be of particular interest to Fantasy managers.

Hughes’ decision to withdraw Kenwyne Jones allowed Arnautovic to shift up front and perhaps hints at his thinking as he looks to integrate the new boy into his XI. Listed as a midfielder, Arnautovic – coming in at 5.5 in FPL with an ownership of just 0.1% – could be a potential out of position prospect ahead of a run of six enticing games (NOR, ful, WBA, mun, SOU, swa, SUN) in the next seven.

The Selection Poser

After Christian Benteke’s early withdrawal yesterday, the Gameweek went from bad to worse for many this afternoon. Theo Walcott’s late call-off for Arsenal was followed by Robin Van Persie’s omission from United’s trip to the Etihad as a couple of the weekend’s main armband contenders failed to show, forcing many Fantasy managers to rely on the points accrued from cut-price bench fodder.

Certainly, the early prognosis on both Van Persie and Walcott remains optimistic. David Moyes has insisted the Dutchman could be back as soon as the midweek Capital One Cup clash against Liverpool, while Arsene Wenger is hopeful Walcott will only be out for a matter of days.

The issue for Fantasy managers here is whether to ignore the volatile markets and ride out any potential price drops. This season, in particular, has seen significant activity and with both United and Arsenal set for strong schedules, Wayne Rooney and Mesut Ozil offer obvious alternatives to their respective team-mates. Van Persie, with an ownership in excess of 43%, could be set for significant sales if he fails to recover quickly, while Walcott’s 15% ownership – currently the tenth highest for midfielders – is falling since this afternoon’s withdrawal. There’s no doubt the pair, despite indifferent starts, will come good again but as wildcards are wielded frantically and the transfers out rack up, keeping calm amidst the knee-jerking mayhem after a hugely frustrating week like this is proving the ultimate test of patience.

    Mignolet
    Terry • Coleman • Dawson
    Ozil • Michu • Eriksen • HBA
    Rooney • Sturridge • Giroud

    Lewis • JWP • Turner • Chester

I know Ben Arfa is a bit of a weak link, but he is explosive and could do well for the price, I have had him for the games when he performed, so I am not chasing points. Would have liked a United defender but last night put me off. I know JWP hasn't started the last 2, but I cant afford to upgrade or downgrade defence at this stage. Hopefully after a decent week this or next I can get Whittingham in for him. I got him at 4.5 so if he falls once it wont matter.

That's what I thought, but Eriksen has looked phenomenal recently and is a bargain at that price. Lamela isn't assured of starts yet due to personal reasons. Dawson has played the full 90 minutes so far and Spurs have 4 CSs from 5, so I don't see why AVB would go making changes at the back just yet. I like Eriksen as a differential, for my cash league at least. Hopefully Dawson will become Nastasic soon.

What a shocking week, lowest score in my work league only 22 pts no wally and RVP really cost me.

Lamps as (c) and soldado as (vc) was a bad move.

my highest scoring player was my keeper!

My only consellation is that I won £70 on the footie this weekend.

I do however have 2 FT as I saved mine from last week.

    Boruc (4.0)
Collins - Zab - Evra - Chester (Turner)
    HBA - Wally - Lamps (Lucas - Ward P)
    Giroud - Soldado - RVP

    Vorm, Stekelenburg
    Coleman, Shaw, Mertesacker, Amorebieta, Zabaleta
Eriksen, Mirallas, Walcott, Ben Arfa, Barkley
    Giroud, Soldado, Benteke

    0.3MIB, 1 FT

I'm really considering pressing the wildcard button. Please tell me whether I should do it or not. Or should I rather take some hits to improve my team? Thanks in advance guys! Im desperate 🙁

Probably worth it, especially if you want to captain rooney which I assume you do.

Soldado definitely won't do too much damage in the next fixture. But long term who knows.

Good player, good team, penalties, no rotation, great fixtures. On paper he is ideal for FPL - like a cheaper Rvp - like if benteke would have played do a good team or if giroud would be on penalties.

    wildcard time:

Feedback please! I need it - ridiculously bad ranking
    ... And yes this is not a joke - I'm talking 1.6MILLION ranking !!!

If you want to check my history you'll see the sob story but I'm not here to sob!

    boruc, 4.0
    baines coleman terry toure shaw
    walcott ozil barkley brady whittingham
    rooney sturridge giroud

I realise there is triple arsenal and everton - I am happy to take such a gamble for players I consider to be great value. I want a solid bench, and I want to rotate all the 5mil guys (toure, shaw, barkley, brady, whittingham) playing 2/5 based on fixtures every week.

I will play boruc, coleman, terry, baines, walcott, ozil, rooney, sturridge, giroud *every* game (except maybe drop coleman at mancity)

        can or can't?

Nightmare start eh. The only thing that keeps my chin up (di canio style) is that the guy who beat me every season (last season both top 5k) is only 3 points ahead and has played wildcard, sitting on a poor squad!

        Good luck climbing the ranks

In reply: last season was the first season I started tripling up based on fixtures and form. Some worked some didn't. Final rank was pretty good.

This season I haven't actually taken many risks yet, if you check my history. Double arsenal defence was the major problem but apart from that just a bizarre set of circumstances such as my players suddenly being dropped/ injured as soon as I buy them.

A solid swap I think man. If you can justify a cheaper midfield or defence.

    Morning. Thought for the day;

Don't be afraid to field a team with less than 11 starters. Resist the urge to 'tidy' your team with hits.

Your Chesters, Wards, Whittakers, would most likely earn you 2pts whereas a hit to transfer them out just to have a full team costs 4pts. Concentrating transfers on core players that could earn you big hauls is always the priority.
    Just saying . . .

On the contrary. I think it's a perfect time to sort your team out. It means that the hits in theory cost only 2 points. When normally they would cost you 4.

I was aiming this at the stream of people wanting to know - again - if Chester this... or Ward that...
These are players that we all got in cheap as bench fodder, and suddenly people are making hits and considering WCing just to tidy them up

Oh yeah I agree. I wouldn't pay the points simply to sort the bench out, but if I knew for a fact I would be fielding less than XI players, especially for long term injuries, then I wouldn't be so fussed,

not worth a hit to transfer out a bench player but at some point it can be worth a FT to transfer them out

I noticed Suarez, and figure you only really need one. Giroud is also a good option, but I doubt he'll continue his scoring rate and I reckon Rooney could easily (football cliche incoming) explode.

Worth doing Ivanovic & Lampard -> Terry & Michu for a hit? Worried about having Lampard but would need to drop Ivan to free up the points.
