As David Moyes’ teamsheet leaves the door ajar for an inspired West Brom to silence Old Trafford, Arsenal, driven on by their Welsh starlet once again, grab their opportunity to set the Premier League pace.

The Game Changer

Aaron Ramsey’s extraordinary ascendency continues. A fourth league goal at the Liberty tonight ensured the points for the Gunners and handed Ramsey’s Fantasy owners a second double figure haul, with the Welshman also assisting Serge Gnabry’s opener.

The clamour for Ramsey will now continue and, after two consecutive 0.3 price rises in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, it seems we’re witnessing one the most rapid and relentless bandwagons since Michu burst on to the scene last season.

With Ramsey’s form showing incredible consistency, it seems assured that Wenger will keep him installed as a key figure in his midfield, despite the availability of Mikel Arteta and the impending return of Santi Cazorla. Rest and rotation may eventually bite, even with that risk, Ramsey remains almost impossible to ignore.

His army of Fantasy owners will be rejoicing this evening. The rest will be wondering if they should swallow their pride and get on board, despite missing the rise of 0.7. While it feels like chasing points, those points show little sign of slowing up.

The Underused

Morgan Amilfitano was United’s chief tormenter at Old Trafford. An outstanding display was capped by his second goal in consecutive matches and was coupled with an assist for the Baggies winner. The Frenchman’s impact on the Baggies has been profound and Steve Clarke appears to unearthed a gem.

With maximum bonus on their way, Amilfitano has brought in 24 points in his three Premier League appearances and is now blinking brightly on our radars as a low-to-mid price midfield asset.

His arrival at the Hawthorns created little publicity, with the signings of Stephane Sessegnon and Victor Anichebe allowing him to land in the midlands without fanfare. Certainly, his statistics over his previous two seasons at Marseille were underwhelming: two goals and seven assists from 60 league games hardly earmarked him for immediate attention from Fantasy managers.

Three matches in, however, and it’s clear that Amilfitano has been rejuvenated and, despite West Brom’s tough schedule, he represents a major consideration for those looking to free up funds from their midfield.

The Selection Poser

We saw rotation in the United lineup prior to matchday one of the Champions League and, today, it materialised again. While we should not detract from the performance of West Brom, the United teamsheet was surely a contributing factor behind their shock 2-1 reverse.

Defensively, David Moyes’ side were far from secure without the assured presence of Patrice Evra and, in particular Nemanja Vidic. The omission of both ahead of Wednesday’s tie with Shakhtar Donetsk came as a surprise. It was anticipated that Rio Ferdinand would be the more likely to be rotated out, with club captain Vidic hailed only this week by Moyes as the best central defender he’s ever managed.

It remains to be seen if the United boss repeats such a policy in matches to come. Clearly he has options and the means to rotate his defence, making it difficult for Fantasy managers to assess the options on offer at a time when their fixtures had suggested the promise of defensive returns. Today’s lineup and result surely calls for a rethink.

In attack, Robin van Persie was kept on the bench until United were forced to chase the game. While the Dutchman was fit enough for selection, Moyes chose to keep him from the fray and presumably preserve him for European action.

Prior to matchday one of the Champions League in Gameweek 4, Van Persie was replaced with 11 minutes remaining against a 10-man Palace and back then, we highlighted the possibility of limited pitch time to come with Moyes protecting his star asset. Moyes’ decision to start without him today not only provided further frustration for his Fantasy owners, denting Van Persie’s stock once again, it surely provided a boost for visitors West Brom, inspiring them to put on a performance that ultimately proved too much for a weakened and out-of-sorts United.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

How come? He seems to be the main man at the second best team in North London and they have decent fixtures coming up. I have £2.1m cash on hand, and it seems a good move seeing as Hernandez is still injured. My other midfielders are Barkley, Ozil, Oscar and Ben10.

NOt at all. They're on form with decent fixtures. Ozil will consistently be good. Ramseys goals will surely dry out or he'll become a superstar.I don't rate Giroud that highly but as the lone striker with the arsenal midfield behind him he will score goals.

How much emphasis should we place on anticipation? This season has seen an abnormal amount of clean sheets resulting in plenty of points for defenders. However we all know that a return to the norm is a distinct possibility if not an inevitability.

Should we as managers attempt to anticipate this change when taking into account future transfers?
Is now the time to reconsider an uber defence to stay ahead of the curve?

Right, your help is needed to get Ramsey into this team.

I know I know it is a flash in the pan, not worth it, etc... etc... BUT anyway.

    Boruc
    Dawson, Clyne, Vidic
    Özil, Paulinho, Barkley, Michu
    Rooney, Giroud, Suárez
    (Davis, Morrison, Coleman, Turner)

    My theory was
    Vidic > Davies
    Barkly > Ramsey (-4)

    or Paulinho > Ramsey
    or Ozil > Ramsey

Different ideas? Or why I shouldn't get the price rises?

When Spurs keep a clean sheet Vert gets a boner. Spurs like keeping clean sheets. More goal threat than Walker as well. Dawson looks like losing his place. Answer: Yes

As it stands Tot, Eve, and Che seem the most solid defences. Their premium defenders will all do well this year.

    Zabaleta, Coleman, Collins, Shaw, Ward

    1FT & 1,2m in bank

    A) Collins -> Burner & HBA -> Michu

    B) Collins -> 6/6.5m def & HBA -> Ramsey

Vert and Walker are both priced fairly accurately. Vert will get you a few more points for the extra million. Nothing in it. Both are good buys. (I have Walker; benched him this week as I figured Chelsea would sneak a goal, but will play him in the coming games.)

Anyone think the midfield area is a complete waste of time this year with regards to big hitters?

No one is firing like they should and there is better value in the cheaper range.

Im switching tactic now to have 3 big strikers and 5 strong defenders, got Özil and Ben Arfa as my 2 midfielders and will rotate the other spot or two like we used to with defenders.

    My team now looks

    Boruc

    Vidic, Rio, Clyne, Coleman, Shaw

Özil, Ben Arfa, Brady, Barkley, Whittingham

    Van Persie, Suarez, Giroud

The way the game is now 523 or 433 dont look bad formations.

    Thoughts???

I am totally convinced we will start to see less clean sheets now. Those with Manchester defenders suffered this week and I think its a trend we will see more of. I wouldn't even consider a 5 man defence as we are 6 weeks too late for that.

I wouldnt read too much into United conceding yesterday, he rested Vidic, Evra and van Persie, I think its safe to say he wont be doing that again as he will lose the fans if he hasnt already and ypu know what happens then.

Their next 4 are too good to ignore and yesterday will be a defining moment for their season.

That is valid but equally I do believe we will start to see less clean sheets in general for the PL

      Similar team here

      Etheridge / Mignolet
      Coleman / Wilson / Turner / Clyne / Dawson
      Brady / Barkley / Michu / Özil / Arnautovic
      Suárez / Rooney / Giroud

Doubt I'll ever play 5 at the back, let alone 4. Brady is a must play now. Clean sheets are drying up. Only 2/14 yesterday.

The Southampton tactic has served me well in the last 2 weeks, the fact that they are drying up makes the blocks more appealing to me when you look at the fixtures, I dont believe United would have lost or conceded yesterday if he didnt change it like he did.

Not sure about the rio and vidic combo, a Swansea DEF would add options.

Also think that Ozil is too pricey given a Walcott (when fit) or Ramsey frees up funds.

No one would captain Ramsey, Özil is another option and I captained him last week, he is fantasy gold and will be as his stats in general is what this game is about, Ramsey cant keep this rate up, that will put him in Messi/Ronaldo territory so Ive missed the boat on him, Walcott is out for a while so he cant really be a talking point at the moment if you are honest.

Anyway, back to the original point, how many of you see the midfield as a waste this year? Pound for pound it seems the weakest area with regards to form and returns.

I'm trying to save FT and carry it for using over international break.
May you please help me see if the team need any urgent change?

    Mignolet (CPL)
Dawson (WHU) - Vidic (sun) - Baines (mci)
Michu (sot) - Ozil - Ramsey (wba) - Moses
Rooney (sun) - Giroud - Sturridge

Sub: Lewis, Barkley, Clyne (SWA), Turner (NEW)

    Will Vidic back starting?

    Yo.

    Mirallas to Michu a no-brainer?

Don't have much wiggle room pricewise so would have to be an early transfer if I wanted to do it which of course risks getting Champions League injuries.
