Gameweek 8 sees the launch of the latest team competition for the Fantasy Football Scout community organised by FFS UEFA. Following the success of last season’s ICC-themed cricket tournament, the group have created FFS Beach Soccer World Cup 2013, with 16 teams, each comprised of 11 players, competing for the crown.

If you’re new to the concept and are wondering just what all the chatter has been about, here’s a link to their site which will help explain matters in a little more detail.

Essentially, the scoring is based around the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game.

Each team started scouting for players (ie, FPL managers) on Sunday, October 6 and the recruitment period will come to a close on Wednesday, October 16, with the roster of team players announced on Thursday, October 17.

The teams are led by a captain and vice-captain and guided by a manager, who decide which seven of their 11 players to field each week – depending on the perceived prospects of their FPL line-ups -and which four to bench. Their overall FPL scores for the Gameweek, with hits taken into account, will form the team’s score that week – by outscoring their opponents, they chalk up a win.

The first match in Gameweek 8 will be no more than a friendly before the main event gets underway the following weekend. This sees the 16 teams compete in four groups of four between Gameweek 9 and 11 – the top two teams from each group will progress to the knockout stages, where sides square up in a head-to-head elimination process from Gameweek 12 until the final in Gameweek 15. Tips from Tahiti # 1

Team Selection

We found a really useful trick that i thought as a host nation should be shared.

1) All FFS members have access to the RMT tool. So get there.
2) Enter the FPL ID of your player and you get his/her team of previous week.
3) RMT allows you to directly copy-paste this onto a readable format in a Spreadsheet.
4) Now repeat this for all team members and you have a great picture of what players your team members have, which should help in team selection every week.

Ivory Coast press conference.

As a result of multiple offers for Super Oscar Baby since his arrival on Ivorian shores we see no option but to accept one. Former world number one Julian Ziparro has moved from Taihiti in part exchange for Oscar with the rest of the deal being 1bn French pacific francs. (Yes SOB is worth that much) Julian will bring the cash with him and on arrival we shall have a traditional Ivorian Party. Pictures below.         All I'm saying is there's no point in trying to control each team by rules. At the end of the day, the manager, captain and VC decide who they want in the their team. Just do what you feel is best for your team is all in your hands. I'd assume each team knows what they are doing.

Gonna have to go with Sporting here on this one. Some of ye guys have poor souls sending in cover letters and doing a party trick to be on a waiting list never mind have a chance to play the game. Overlooking them for some non playing team isn't exactly in the sport of the game is it?

For what it is worth
I have made a few attempts to get into teams and been asked to apply for a few others, not with guaranteed spot I should say. I have looked through teams to see what I think they base their selection on to see where I best fit so as not to waste time and burden managers with applications that don't fit their criteria
At this point I would say I believe it is up to them how they choose their team.
In my research it would seem the teams fall into three categories
1 those who aim for what the perceive to be high quality players, usually based on their history
2 those who pick based on desire to offer a wider audience an opportunity
3 those who pick based on previous knowledge and perhaps friendship

For me there is therefore room in the tourney for most types of players, all be it a limited number but the tourney would probably need to be two years long to accommodate everyone.
During my looking I did raise my eyebrows I few times when I seen some people who have been selected, either by their below average history, current rank or who the hell are they. But as I said it is their choice who they select.
So those who don't get in have to just accept it.

    I highly recommend the TWS tournament. An entirely different type but it has no limits on the number of players and FPL rank is irrelevant. I hope that one gets repeated.

  Team Iran based out selection on a mixture of past competitions, friendships and whether we liked the email the new people sent. We chose one of our members entirely on his email to us as he obviously fitted our ethos.
  
  As a manager, I hate telling anyone they haven't been successful.
