Gameweek 8 sees the launch of the latest team competition for the Fantasy Football Scout community organised by FFS UEFA. Following the success of last season’s ICC-themed cricket tournament, the group have created FFS Beach Soccer World Cup 2013, with 16 teams, each comprised of 11 players, competing for the crown.

If you’re new to the concept and are wondering just what all the chatter has been about, here’s a link to their site which will help explain matters in a little more detail.

Essentially, the scoring is based around the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game.

Each team started scouting for players (ie, FPL managers) on Sunday, October 6 and the recruitment period will come to a close on Wednesday, October 16, with the roster of team players announced on Thursday, October 17.

The teams are led by a captain and vice-captain and guided by a manager, who decide which seven of their 11 players to field each week – depending on the perceived prospects of their FPL line-ups -and which four to bench. Their overall FPL scores for the Gameweek, with hits taken into account, will form the team’s score that week – by outscoring their opponents, they chalk up a win.

The first match in Gameweek 8 will be no more than a friendly before the main event gets underway the following weekend. This sees the 16 teams compete in four groups of four between Gameweek 9 and 11 – the top two teams from each group will progress to the knockout stages, where sides square up in a head-to-head elimination process from Gameweek 12 until the final in Gameweek 15. @ Leave it out Del , we at team Netherlands have gone out of our way to recruit at least 2 newbies / a couple of old pros , a few established players that haven't played much uefa games and then Gargamel 😉
I believe if you ask Scotty / Bj that they found us more than helpful and friendly, yes it does take a while to get established on here and uefa are doing their best to be " all inclusive " ,
You can please some of the people sometimes but you can't please all of the people all the time.
No doubt timing is key - if one is posting around the time of game release you've a good chance of being selected.
It would be unfair to try close down these games because IMO they add to the community , I post mostly on beach footie thread at the moment because I tire of the endless rmt and repitive q's that go on in general , I don't want to tell others what to do and I dont expect others to tell me what to do.

  To be fair, Del wasn't trying to close the comps down, he was just commenting that it was intrusive in the rest of the FFS forum.
  
  Last season, the ICC thread was tucked away and didn't bother anyone but this year the Beach Soccer posts are still visible in the recent comments ticker.
  
  And, due to the sheer volume of regular posters in the comp, some beach soccer posts find their way on to "normal" threads.
  
  The more serious FFS-ers don't want to see that.

    If you mean by the comment ticker - that's an issue for scout.
    I agree it should stay on here , and fwiw I think Del is trolling a little and if I were a serious player I wouldn't post here because i believe the bandwagons and the noise of the crowd influence too much anyways, How many of say the top 100 post on here ?
    It's called fantasy for a reason and what goes with that is a little imagination and uefa are only utilising the same ingredients that scout are : " imagination football " guys need to loosen up a little tbh IMO.

  I can vouch for this - we had some hard decisions to make, turning down some FFS stalwarts in order to get a more balanced squad.
  
  The demand for this competition has been huge (I lost count after about 30 people that we had to turn away). The Council could easily have fiiled twice as many teams, in hindsight, but I think that the problem may be more in getting enough people to fill the "management / captaincy" roles - I think they may have struggled to get your average "leave-it-out-Del" type lurker to fill these roles effectively. And increasing the amount of players per team just adds to the burden of the managers of each team. I think the numbers are about right. Just my opinion.

Maybe next time there's a competition, there could be a sign up spreadsheet added for people who are interested in getting on a team to cut down on some of the chase, and at least let people see who don't get onto a team, that the system indeed was fair and many who wanted to get on a team did indeed get on a team.

Headers could be: FFS name, FPL id, WC'ed? (Y or N), Grav? (Y or N), contact details

Well I'm glad I got some feedback anyway.

I gave an opinion on this. I can see that the people that set it up did it as fairly as they could - not everyone could get in due to limits - all fine by me.

All I'm saying is that now it's all done and dusted the ones that fancied playing, possibly as a potential gateway of getting involved in the forums/discussions more are constantly reminded of this particular tournament - made all the more conspicuous by the changing of gravs to team colours etc. which comes over as a badge of honour. If you were lucky enough to get involved well done - but lots of us missed out regardless of fairness. And now we are not involved it means nothing to us...

  1) There are still some teams with openings.
  
  2) You can choose to root for a team.
  
  3) For example, our team expects a groundswell of support from all those without a grav as we are the only team in the tournament that has a player without a grav.
  
  4) I realize the gravs are changed in the main forum, but otherwise I think everyone has done a good job of keeping the conversation here, and away from there.

        My biggest fail as a manager, without a shadow of a doubt. Tried to patch that up, but a bit too late in the game after committing to 11 fantastic team-first guys.
        
        Truly underestimated the utility of scouting in advance and targeting particular people. I didn't expect to go 11 out of 12 on genuine recruits.

  You could pick a team to support, or just pay no attention. I'm not in the UEFA Champions League game but there are a lot of posts and threads about it when the games come up because it's officially supported by FFS. You know about the FSS FA Cup now that really was a mass involvement opportunity and this is only for a few GWs so there will be more community comps as the season goes on. See TorresMagic's competitions too.
  
  Right now with the International break there really isn't much else going on so it makes sense you will have lots of Beach Soccer chat as it's the main active thing. Once the PL is back it will be back to the RMT, who to bench/captain and the usual banter.

      This is the first (well the FA Cup was the first but that's so big and spread out and a solo competition there's not much chance of meeting your opponent on the board) FFS UEFA thing I've been involved in so I know your point of view from the past seasons and the ICC competition which was along similar lines.
      
      I remember being a bit confused by it at first but back then I ended up not paying much attention to it, although there was a fair amount of chat and banter between the teams on the regular threads I think. Having a special topic now is a result of the organisers/FFS specifically going out of their way to not interfere with the regular posts, at first having daily Hot Topics was tried but this makes more sense.

    . I was new to this forum in August and wasn't picked up for UEFA leagues. I stuck around, stopped bitching around after a couple of days and eventually got easily picked for this tourney

Hello Guys
It seems unofficially all the Teams are full.
Still 3 ppl Arvinnation, Raspingsdrive and Myself [Sanks] are still looking out for a spot in a team.
As far as im concerned,I will give my all i can till officially its declared and Teams r laid out.
I simply dont want to feel later that I could have done better.
Atm I wont be wrong saying I have tried my beat to Sell myself to all of the Managers around.
Still i m Hoping if theres a spot Someone provides me that Golden Opportunity.

Just caught up on the last page, no need to feel left out if you've missed out on a team. Tournament can still be enjoyed as a spectator. But it's good to show your passion and commitment.
