Gameweek 8 sees the launch of the latest team competition for the Fantasy Football Scout community organised by FFS UEFA. Following the success of last season’s ICC-themed cricket tournament, the group have created FFS Beach Soccer World Cup 2013, with 16 teams, each comprised of 11 players, competing for the crown.

If you’re new to the concept and are wondering just what all the chatter has been about, here’s a link to their site which will help explain matters in a little more detail.

Essentially, the scoring is based around the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game.

Each team started scouting for players (ie, FPL managers) on Sunday, October 6 and the recruitment period will come to a close on Wednesday, October 16, with the roster of team players announced on Thursday, October 17.

The teams are led by a captain and vice-captain and guided by a manager, who decide which seven of their 11 players to field each week – depending on the perceived prospects of their FPL line-ups -and which four to bench. Their overall FPL scores for the Gameweek, with hits taken into account, will form the team’s score that week – by outscoring their opponents, they chalk up a win.

The first match in Gameweek 8 will be no more than a friendly before the main event gets underway the following weekend. This sees the 16 teams compete in four groups of four between Gameweek 9 and 11 – the top two teams from each group will progress to the knockout stages, where sides square up in a head-to-head elimination process from Gameweek 12 until the final in Gameweek 15.         I had applied for Tahiti and was apparently being strongly considered. Eventually I was told that the team was full but I was 'next in line'.
        Then I was offered the job of a physio.

Regarding some ideas for the terms of our comp, I think we could have the loser hold their punishment grav/name change until their beach soccer team wins their next game/til the tournament ends. Alternatively we could have the loser challenge another player on their next opposing team to a h2h match, with the same terms as I've mentioned. Have a fight for your freedom sort of situation and spread this h2h betting thing like a virus.

What if all teams were allowed a sort of... academy or "youth" team, with players that aren't quite good/known enough to make the first team. Each week the squad would need to be filled up with seven users from the first team, and one additional from the academy.

Just a thought. I know us at Solomon would have the organization/capacity to allow for such a thing. Would open the door for a lot of budding community members who are just dying to get in. I almost feel a bit bad sitting on a spot at times.

  I know what you mean about sitting on a spot but I suppose each team has their own methods/criteria for selection. It's a nice idea. If people have missed out on this hopefully there will be other competitions throughout the season that they can get involved with. I'm fortunate to be part of a team that recruited from throughout the community including the lesser known members and even the Gravless. 🙂

  The primary thoughts were:
  - if folks want to separately organizing an under-21 3-on-3 or 5-on-5, they can use the current spreadsheet as a basis to do so
  - it is unfortunately a bit late in the organization to add more players to squad sizes; and squad sizes of 11 seem like a good maximum number for personnel management
  - it is too late to ramp up recruiting again, and would make too much noise on FFS
  - perhaps another team could be added to each group in the future, if there is sufficient demand
  - perhaps managers could ban themselves from being players in the future, as that would alone create an additional 12 or 13 slots in the current competition.

        We only allow our children to use more basic stunt planes in the same way we only allow them to learn to drive in R8's before handing the the keys to their Enzo's Astom Martin one's or whatever takes their fancy. It's important we feel though to take part in the celebrations.
