Gameweek 8 sees the launch of the latest team competition for the Fantasy Football Scout community organised by FFS UEFA. Following the success of last season’s ICC-themed cricket tournament, the group have created FFS Beach Soccer World Cup 2013, with 16 teams, each comprised of 11 players, competing for the crown.

If you’re new to the concept and are wondering just what all the chatter has been about, here’s a link to their site which will help explain matters in a little more detail.

Essentially, the scoring is based around the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game.

Each team started scouting for players (ie, FPL managers) on Sunday, October 6 and the recruitment period will come to a close on Wednesday, October 16, with the roster of team players announced on Thursday, October 17.

The teams are led by a captain and vice-captain and guided by a manager, who decide which seven of their 11 players to field each week – depending on the perceived prospects of their FPL line-ups -and which four to bench. Their overall FPL scores for the Gameweek, with hits taken into account, will form the team’s score that week – by outscoring their opponents, they chalk up a win.

The first match in Gameweek 8 will be no more than a friendly before the main event gets underway the following weekend. This sees the 16 teams compete in four groups of four between Gameweek 9 and 11 – the top two teams from each group will progress to the knockout stages, where sides square up in a head-to-head elimination process from Gameweek 12 until the final in Gameweek 15. ENR, remember I told you about my very own beach soccer tourney here in Aust recently?

Well I was down there last weekend and played the games on a glorious beach at Yamba... we had 12 guys that went down, so we split ourselves into two teams... we were all drinking on the sidelines between matches and even slyly sipping the beers at HT... had an absolute blast...

Both of the teams finished second in our respective groups so we ended up playing each other in a 3rd place playoff, but that was a rotten no holds barred punch up as supposed to a competitive beach soccer game... 😀

The thing is, I came away from that game with a cracked rib after some guy challenged me, he kneed me in the ribs and winded me as I was making a save...

Just had an X ray today, and it was confirmed that it is a hairline fracture, so now I have to stay off work for a few weeks at least to let it heal... didn't feel it at the time since I was half baked, but I certainly feel it now...

I guess what I'm trying to say is... these are only friendly games this week, so no kneeing anyone in the ribs until next week at the very least... but leave it until the final if possible... 😉

        I haven't read about it, I'd play him anyway. If he's not well enough to play Fonte will come in as sub anyway so stick JE in the team.
        
        Slight chance you'll end up with a 10 min cameo but worth the risk imo.

  By the way, is it just a coincidence that after being under Ganville's management in this competition that some guy nearly breaks my leg in a friendly match for my football team? The blood has pooled in my foot/ankle, which is now half purple, and I can't feel my shin.

    Seems to be a lot of injuries flying around. It's all too easy to tweak a toe, get sand in the eyes or get hit in the crackers.

    I snapped half the tendons in my ankle warming up for a game about 5 years back and it's still swollen now with calcification around the joint. Being a man I played the match in goal with my ankle the size of the ball... 🙂

      Yikes! I am lucky to never have had a serious injury like that. I am a CB and I normally get a lot of injuries in my ribs from elbows and a cracked ribs is the worst I get.

        Yeah, that was the last time I really played 😀 A few years before slipped a couple of disks in a collision in a match and this was probably the moment I thought enough is enough!
        
        Years of kickboxing and martial arts before an no bad injuries, who say's footie is for fairies! 😀

        well at least it weren't an idiotic injury. i was tryin a hollywood backheel-right foot wrapping round the left-but my left ankle rolled. ligament stretched. then my right heel thwacked the extended ligament and snapped it. needless to say i felt like a silly goose
