Gameweek 8 sees the launch of the latest team competition for the Fantasy Football Scout community organised by FFS UEFA. Following the success of last season’s ICC-themed cricket tournament, the group have created FFS Beach Soccer World Cup 2013, with 16 teams, each comprised of 11 players, competing for the crown.

If you’re new to the concept and are wondering just what all the chatter has been about, here’s a link to their site which will help explain matters in a little more detail.

Essentially, the scoring is based around the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game.

Each team started scouting for players (ie, FPL managers) on Sunday, October 6 and the recruitment period will come to a close on Wednesday, October 16, with the roster of team players announced on Thursday, October 17.

The teams are led by a captain and vice-captain and guided by a manager, who decide which seven of their 11 players to field each week – depending on the perceived prospects of their FPL line-ups -and which four to bench. Their overall FPL scores for the Gameweek, with hits taken into account, will form the team’s score that week – by outscoring their opponents, they chalk up a win.

The first match in Gameweek 8 will be no more than a friendly before the main event gets underway the following weekend. This sees the 16 teams compete in four groups of four between Gameweek 9 and 11 – the top two teams from each group will progress to the knockout stages, where sides square up in a head-to-head elimination process from Gameweek 12 until the final in Gameweek 15.     I cordially invite my UAE team mates to a post friendly/GW party at my newly aquired pent house suite in Palm Jumeirah to celebrate our national holiday on Monday the 14th "Arafat day".     Loving our Netherlands team!

    Good mix of FFS stalwarts and newcomers. We deliberately aimed for this to mix it up a bit. Our only criteria was (a) good FPL players and (b) good lads.

    I don't doubt the new kid on the block at United, Januzaj, but didn't Moyes also take a shine to Lingard in pre-season? (out on loan at Birmingham for a month)..is it possible that any new blood at United will be sharing some of his already (probably) limited game time when he returns from his loan spell...?..any thoughts ?

      Januzaj is more advanced in his development than Lingard. Januzaj went on tour as part of the first team squad, Lingard went for the experience

      I may well be proved wrong but I don't think Janujaz is a good pick at the moment. So much competition and so young that he will be eased in this season. When you do start him there is always a risk of a cameo sub appearance.

      I say there's a chance with a few campaigns on the go. I haven't followed lingard too closely but remember about a month ago or so he scored all 4 of City's goals one game and man u fans were crying to have him back as their creative midfielder. I think Moyes will try and use the squad as Fergie did.

      I'm not going near any januzaj bandwagon. The answer is Ravel!

      He's done really well at Birmingham notching five in four games...as well as all the goals he got pre season...I'm not sure he's going to be overlooked and at the same time i'm sure Moyes wouldn't play two such younf players together any time soon...or maybe he will.

      How does it work?

      There are 18 teams
      The Group Stage will host 10 matches each
      Each team plays each other two times, with the top two teams from each group progressing to the quarter-final stage. Group winners gain a home draw for the quarter-final.
      During the group stage, teams are awarded three points for a win, one point for a draw, with no points awarded for a defeat.
      All quarter final will take place in GW11.
      Finals Day will take place in GW12.
      Prize! The winner will win a £15 iTunes voucher!
      All point hits count. No new FPL teams created for this purpose will be allowed.
      The teams go head-to-head based on the fixture list

      Group and Knockout Stages

    Ok if anyone feel like taking me onboard in the beach soccer tourny, I'm ripe for the picking.

    This is my third season, first didn't go so well but finished 425 last season. Also made it to about round 10 in the cup, and the semis in Elite 64 πŸ™‚

    Currently just inside 200k with a very helthy looking team (Lukaku has been drafted in for Rooney).

    I'm on here quite a lot but mainly in the day-time. Any, uhm, taker?

    Ok i want to know which 2 players that are widely considered viable options in Fantasy football frustrate you the most, not just this season but over the course of many seasons even. The kind of players that seem to do well for everybody else but when you own them they blank/get injured/tease you with mediocre returns?

    My 2 are:

    Walcott = Always gets injured when i put him in.
    &
    Baines = Never keeps a cleanie for me and seems to go on long streaks of doing nothing and then as soon as i swap him out........

      Walcott was the player I got the most satisfaction from last season. So reliable and got me some unparalleled hauls one being against Newcastle. A massive 26 points which was the highest score from an uncaptained player (of course) from that season! Great in the dgws too.

      Probably Santi Cazorla at one point other than one of the dgws. Everytime I picked him he did nothing.

      Hazard was annoying too, captained him GW1 though last season though πŸ˜‰

      Nolan. Had him during his 8 game spell of 2 pointers last season after he was banging them in and then this season got him GW2 on WC and after 3 blanks he's out for good.

      Baines. Never had the patience to keep over a long period of fixtures and inevitably he picks up a whole lot of 0,1,2 pointers over his stay. Inevitably get a goal or assist the next game though.

      Also had Vertonghen from GW1 last season because of his goal scoring potential, but with no attacking returns or spurs cleanies to paper over the cracks dumped him literally the week before he first scored.

      My mid-priced mids at the start of the season often seem to be cursed as well.

      Walcott was frustrating, when he gets games under his belt, he starts doing well but becomes more likely to get an injury, thus starting him back to square one.

      Mirallas may not be conventional, but he has caused me several headaches. I followed his progress in the Hellas Liga and he was outstanding, but simply has not lived up to the expectations I had for him, regardless of his skill.

    Hi all - just to let you know team Netherlands are done and dusted with our team selection and what a process it was , we drew over 25 applicants and assessed each on its own merit ,
    We decided to go with a mix of Brand new posters / long term posters and infrequent posters with a solid well established management team .
    We feel we have got the formula right and no one can say we were a closed shop , each applicant got a response and we endeavoured to treat everybody with the respect they deserve.

        Hi Roy - brings it all back to me now !
        I hit 13 greens in the end , I'd say I started even lower say 1m mark and made small gains each week culminating in a 1539 finish .
        I had a bad first 7/8 game weeks but I clicked it around gw3ish took a couple of hits from then on / kept Wc (which I didn't play till 33) which didn't come into my run anyway , So come gw 8ish I can't recall taking any more hits .
        I certainly got into gw 21/22 before I went red , and got about another 4 after that one red .
        I feel you will see most of the pros go on similar runs this year,
        Hopefully I will too - I need it !

        Thomass new competition!
        What's it called? The competition is called the Friends life t20 competition.
        Is it easy? Well it's quite tough!
        So How does it work?
        There are 18 teams
        There are 3 groups in total, 6 teams in each group
        The Group Stage will host 10 matches each
        Each team plays each other two times, with the top two teams from each group progressing to the quarter-final stage. Group winners gain a home draw for the quarter-final.
        During the group stage, teams are awarded three points for a win, one point for a draw, with no points awarded for a defeat.
        In the case that 2 or more teams in a Group end up on the same Points, head-to-head record and Goal Difference (GD) comes into play in that priority.
        All quarter final will take place in GW11.
        Finals Day will take place in GW12.
        Prize! The winner will win a £15 iTunes voucher!
        All point hits count. No new FPL teams created for this purpose will be allowed.
        The teams go head-to-head based on the fixture list

    Has anyone ever analysed if the number of rises over an international break is significantly more than a normal week? Seems to be Saturday, Sunday, Monday, lull for a while, Thursday-sat of the weekend the gameweek starts. So does it really make much of a difference?

      This break is looking good. I've 12 so far that have risen. Most of whom look likely for a double rise. I'll end up keeping 6 or 7 of those, so it looks like a profitable WC.

      Int break always helps, especially if a few players score a brace etc. on the previous GW (as happened this time)

      Agree. I think it is more important how many big bandwagons there are/ how many highly owned players got injured. This dictates transfers more than time since we still only have 1 free transfer
