Back after yet another international break, weโ€™re determined to return to form after a somewhat disappointing showing in Gameweek 7. This time around, the return of a number of players from injury plays a part in our selection process as treatment rooms around the country begin to empty.

If you’re new to PlayON, read this season’s introduction article for more information. If you’re already a seasoned PlayON player, read on for our selection of early weekend targetsโ€ฆ

Gameweek 8 Picks

Goalkeeper โ€“ Julian Speroni
Coming in at just 7.5m, the Palace stopper is the second cheapest of any starting keeper in the Gameweek. Whilst Sunderlandโ€™s Kieran Westwood will set you back 7.2m, he faces a testing trip to Swansea โ€“ Speroni, on the other hand, prepares for a home clash against a Fulham side that has scored just once on their travels so far, with his shot stopping also crucial to the Argentineโ€™s appeal. If youโ€™re prepared to spend a little more between the sticks though, Joe Hart costs 8.4m for Man Cityโ€™s trip to West Ham, whilst Wojciech Szczesny is priced at 8.9m as Arsenal prepare for the visit of Norwich.

Defender โ€“ Glen Johnson
Passed fit to return by Brendan Rodgers in Thursdayโ€™s press conference, Johnson looks an intriguing option for Liverpoolโ€™s trip to Newcastle. If the Reds boss continues with his recent 3-4-1-2 formation, Johnson will line up on the right of the midfield four against the Magpies, affording us a real out of position option at the price of just 8.6m. Keep an eye on the Chelsea and Manchester United team news later today though โ€“ if Ashley Cole fails to recover from a rib problem, Ryan Bertrand will set you back a mere 7.2m and has a home game against Cardiff on his agenda, while Rafael is priced at 8.4m and is expected to shake off a knock in time for the championsโ€™ Old Trafford showdown with Southampton.

Midfielder โ€“ Pablo Hernandez
Like Johnson, the Swansea playmaker is just back from injury and is therefore kindly priced this week. Finally free from a hamstring problem, Hernandez comes in at a bargain 6.8m for Swanseaโ€™s home clash with basement-dwellers Sunderland and will be looking to replicate the form that harvested a goal and two assists in his first three appearances. Elsewhere in midfield, a trio of his playmaking compatriots offer strong value. Santi Cazorla sits at just 7.5m for Arsenalโ€™s clash with Norwich, though itโ€™s uncertain whether heโ€™ll feature from the start or be introduced off the bench, Chelseaโ€™s Juan Mata is slightly more expensive at 7.8m and will be hoping to retain his starting berth as Cardiff roll up to Stamford Bridge, while David Silva is priced at 8.2m in this weekโ€™s PlayON list โ€“ he has scored or assisted in three of his four league games ahead of a trip to West Ham.

Forward โ€“ Luis Suarez
With plenty of top quality options available in the mid-price bracket in midfield, it should enable us to splash the cash up top. The Uruguayan has been in sensational form since returning from suspension and looks primed to continue his recent run of displays against a Newcastle side bereft of both Fabricio Coloccini and Steven Taylor at the back. Suarez is priced at 11.3m to Daniel Sturridgeโ€™s 11.8m and will be looking to engineer a repeat of last seasonโ€™s 6-0 win at St Jamesโ€™ Park. Robin Van Persie is also significantly cheaper than his strike-partner, costing 10.8m to Wayne Rooneyโ€™s 11.7m for the visit of Southampton, whilst further down the price bracket, Christian Benteke, at 10.0m, looks a tempting choice for Aston Villaโ€™s home game against Tottenham if he recovers in time from injury. Fit-again Steven Fletcher at 8.8m is also worth mulling over for those who reckon Gus Poyet can spring a surprise at the Liberty Stadium.

ยฃ1,000 Guaranteed Game this week

PlayON has a ยฃ1,000 Guaranteed Pot on offer this week for a ยฃ5 entry fee. Once the number of entries reaches 200, the pot will continue to rise above ยฃ1,000 so get involved and spread the word so the pot builds in size.

How To Play

PlayON is weekly Fantasy football so you can dip in and out of playing throughout the season. Once your starting XI is built (you can keep changing your team right up to 2 hours before the first kick-off โ€“ 10.45 on Sat morning), you can compete for cash. Entering a multiplayer game for a set stake, youโ€™ll have a chance of winning your share of the pot should you finish high enough in the rankings.
Similarly, you can challenge other players to one-on-one games, selecting the amount at stake. The likes of Robbie Fowler, Les Ferdinand and OptaJoe are all playing the game and are there to be challenged for free or for ยฃ1. The Fantasy Football Scout team is also available to be challenged and has a 58% win rate to this point.

The Fantasy Football Scout Game

We’ve also got a ยฃ2 multiplayer game, dedicated to our community, which is now open and the prize pot is building.

Challenge Your Mates

You can also set up your own multiplayer games with your mates to play for free bragging rights or for cash. Create your own game at www.playon.co.uk.

Finally, a reminder that we have published a strategy guide, offering some tips for getting the most from your PlayON lineup, right here.

Am I pretty well-set or do I need to make changes? Also, whom to bench? Currently have:

    Boruc
    Terry-Vidic-Dawson
    Michu-Eriksen-Oscar(v)-Ramsey
    Lukaku(c)-Suarez-Giroud

Lewis-Barkley (he is my biggest benching concern, but I can't find anyone to swap him with)-Faye-Fonte

Any fellow Eriksen owners giving him one last week to do something? It's a decent fixture and his stats suggest he still has potential, but I'm beginning to think he's all fart and no poo.

Who to play? Ravel or Januzaj?

Ravel has form, nailed on but a tough fixture.

Januzaj has recent form, likely to start and a decent fixture.

Its seem quite obvious it should be Januzaj, but then I read this..

"including pre-season, cup matches and league games, Ravel Morrison has scored 12 goals in 13 starts, with 8 sub appearances."

All those bringing in Januzaj have to play him really, hes a short term punt and his best fixtures and chances of gametime are now. Waste of a transfer otherwise.

With Ben Davies injured do people think Taylor will start at Left Back? I see they have another Defender, Amat, but i'm unsure where he plays....anybody got an advice on this? Taylor could be a bargain at 4.4 and was class before his injury.

Without wishing to complicate matters, I'm not 100% convinced Wilson is nailed on. I've been banging this drum for a few weeks so you may wish to ignore me but the only reason Wilson was in the team GW1 was because Palacios got injured in the warm up. Palacios is now fit again and Wilson's game time has started to drop. Not saying he's about to be benched but he's not 100% secure.

With Kompany and Demichelis both out this w/e, would you be tempted with a Zaba -> Evra free transfer?

I have no pressing issues, so I think I'm down to these 3 options - best bet? Cheers

    A) Zaba -> Evra. Gives me some United cover at least for their 2 home games. Not convinced City will keep many clean sheets away from home without Kompany.

    B) Nolan -> Barkley/Januzaj. Barkley seems the better pick, but it would mean 3 EVE (without Lukaku) and not enough cash for Walcott next week should he be fit. Januzaj is a risk, but not that big a risk given his price and the fact the rest of my squad are all fit and starters.

    C) Save the transfer

    Boruc
    Baines, Terry, Zabaleta
    Michu, Ramsey, Mirallas, Ravel
    Suarez, Giroud, Sturridge

    Davis, Nolan, Toure, Ward
    Bank 0.4m

I've got 2 FTs and I need to ship out Moses to get G Johnson, leaving me with:

    Mignolet
    Johnson - Rangel - Baines
    Michu - Ramsey - Arnautovic - Amalfitano
    Rooney - Suarez - Giroud

    (McGregor, X, Wilson, Shaw)

I'm fairly happy with my 11, but X is hard to decide on. I've got 7.1 to spend and so I'm looking at Paulinho but then I'll probably feel the need to drop either Arnautovic or Amalfitano. Gah. This is tough.

How much have you got invested in Brady's price rises?

No, I don't rate Januzaj yet and Brady is back/very nearly back.

Two FTs: How does Rooney -> Lukaku and Collins -> Vertonghen sound?

I don't really understand why everyone is getting rid of Rooney. It's an unnecessary transfer in my opinion.

Maybe they think other strikers will score more. Just a thought

i think it's lukaku love rather than any particular downer on rooney.
if rooney bags some goals in next two fixtures and lukaku blanks then they will all come back again.
personally, as a rooney owner, as he now only has 12% ownership, it fel like i have a differential ๐Ÿ™‚

Clearing out Rooney before "SOT -STO - ful" is potentially very high risk.

But Lukaku is on fire and I would be massively upgrading my defense.

I wouldn't say "out of nowhere", he got one last week! ๐Ÿ™‚

He would need hat tricks in three successive gameweeks to be worth his price tag imo..

He's a bit of a Yaya/Ramsey type at the minute. His natural position isn't ideal for an FPL prospect but then again he is getting his shots away. I'm not fully convinced just yet though.
