Tottenham’s summer signing from Valencia finally produces the goods as Andre Villas-Boas’ side east past Villa. England’s latest wing sensation also plays a part, whilst four alterations from the visitors may signal the exit of a certain Danish playmaker from many a Fantasy line-up:

The Game Changer

A goal and assist in this afternoon’s win over Villa brings Roberto Soldado back into the Fantasy spotlight.

Dropped for Jermain Defoe last time out, the Spaniard regained his starting berth for the trip to Villa Park and repaid Andre Villas-Boas’ faith by playing a part in both the visitors’ goals. Today’s strike was Soldado’s first from open play this season but in spite of a stuttering start, he has, nevertheless, remained key for his side – this afternoon’s haul means he has played a part in five of Tottenham’s eight league goals this term.

Sold on by considerable numbers of Fantasy managers over the last few Gameweeks, Soldado’s display rewarded the patience of the 10% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers who kept faith in his talents. Now down to 9.2, he has home games against Hull and Newcastle in the next three to help build on today’s display and with confidence flourishing, those looking for an alternative to the current template may just decide he’s worth a flutter.

The Underused

Andros Townsend’s outstanding week continued after the Spurs winger grabbed the opener in today’s win.

Despite netting for England last week, Townsend had managed just a single assist in six league appearances, with his penchant for a long-range effort reaping little reward. His opener at Villa Park, whilst somewhat fortuitous, is likely to see increased interest ahead of next week’s visit of Hull –priced at just 5.6 in FPL, he’s currently owned by under 3% of managers.

Although Tottenham’s multitude of midfield talent means his long-term starting berth is far from nailed-on, Townsend’s rich vein of form looks likely to keep him at the head of the queue for a role on the right – Aaron Lennon’s injury comeback will only increase the competition, though.

The Selection Poser

Villas-Boas’ quartet of changes merely emphasised the strength in depth available at the Lane this season. Christian Eriksen’s owners will undoubtedly be the most disappointed after the Dane dropped out of the starting XI for the first time since making his debut in Gameweek 4.

Currently sitting in over 6% of FPL teams, the exodus is likely to get underway over the next few hours. With so many cheaper alternatives guaranteeing starts and greater returns, Eriksen’s owners will be unlikely to remain patient – there is a theory, though, that his omission was perhaps only down to his international exertions over the past week or so. At the back, Villas-Boas’ decision to hand Vlad Chiriches his first start could soon have Michael Dawson owners on edge, too – with Jan Vertonghen expected to return to the centre once Danny Rose is finally fit, question marks remain over who is likely to get the nod as the Belgian’s partner.

Christian Benteke’s return to action may have failed to ignite the hosts’ faltering attack but it will, nonetheless, have Fantasy managers on alert. Emerging from the bench around the hour mark, the Belgian – now down to 8.8 in FPL – will surely be restored to the starting line-up next time around as Paul Lambert looks to address an attack that has now failed to score in each of the last two.

    So i've finally got 2 FT's to mess around with my team
    Boruc (Davies)
    Terry Coleman Toure Reid Murner
    Michu Ramsey Mirallas Brady Eriksen
    Rooney Suarez Giroud
    0.1 in bank
    2 FTs

    I want to do Eriksen to Hazard/Oscar(which one?) but need to free funds up for that move.. So to fund it
    A) Rooney to Benteke
    B) Coleman to Clyne
    ??
    Remember, the move will be done for free.. thanks

        That is a possibility.. That frees up just enough for Oscar though and not hazard. Would you rather get rid of Reid or Toure? Toure could be a long term rotation risk and pool not really keeping CS's

    Hazard seems to be the type of player that gets a halve a dozen 2's before finally getting a big haul. Does that not mean that getting him in is chasing points? It seems there is no indication he will continue this form, or is there?

    @Jins. Surely Eriksen starts Europa now and benched at the weekend.

    I disagree and thought Holtby played very well in his "free-to-roam" role.

    Actually I might just do Eriksen > Townsend, bench Nasty and save the other transfer.

    That gives me 2 FTs the week after, but would also miss out on Haz price rises...

    Thoughts?

      I guess that's the most likely outcome yeah, but you never know. I thought Holtby was OK but he'll need to do more to nail down a first team spot imo.

      Hazard may only rise 0.1m (max 0.2m) this week so not a great deal lost there imo, and it would be a surprise for City to get spanked.

      Really tricky spot for Eriksen owners this week.

          Maybe, although AVB did say Eriksen was rested due to internationals, so I wouldn't be overly shocked to see him start at the w/e. I think it's worth waiting until Thursday before getting rid - if Eriksen doesn't feature then I'd expect him to start at the w/e.

          If you do get rid, Townsend vs Paulinho is a tricky one. Just looking at the stats now - Paulinho has had more than 3 times as many shots in the box, and is 100% nailed on for 90 mins it seems. Not an easy call imo.

    Had one vote for (A) with Townsend so far - which do you think is best folks?

    (A)
    GW9: Nolan -> Townsend/Paulinho
    GW10: Sturridge -> Aguero

    (B)
    GW9: Nolan -> Hazard
    GW10: Suarez -> Aguero

    (C)
    GW9: Nolan -> Hazard
    GW10: Sturridge -> Benteke

    If doing A or B then I may do Giroud -> Benteke in GW11.

    Boruc, Davis
    Baines, Terry, Toure, Clyne, Ward
    Michu, Ramsey, Mirallas, Nolan, Ravel

      He missed an open net header from the goal line today, had a volley saved by Guzan and missed a couple more chances.

      I would go C) personally though. Benteke has it in him to match Aguero and Giroud just should not be taken out of a fpl team unless injured. Also, Hazard looks mint from GW 10-16

        Is he that much of a rotation risk? Started 7/8 games and is bang in form. I guess with Lennon and Lamela he will need to keep up the performances to stay in the team, but I can't see him being dropped just yet. Siggy is priobably more under threat on the opposite wing I think.

        Benteke is a beast I agree, but Aguero (NOR) is mighty tempting.

    Rooney owners.. Sticking or swapping out for benteke? He looked back to his usual beastly self straight away when he came on for those 30 mins.. 2 gr8 chances and should have scored

      Yeah, although I wonder if Dembele is going to be a squad player all season - he's too good for that. Surprisingly Paulinho had his least advanced game of the season last night - such an engine.

    no pressing trades to make and 2FT - anyone see a problem with Mignolet -> Boruc on Saturday morning, both seem like they will end up on the same amount of points come the end of the season and it frees up an extra 1 million to play with

    Best captaincy option for this week? with WBA and STK looking good defensively of late SAS and Rooney/RVP may struggle. Che/Mancity seems a no go. The Villa - Everton game looks primed for goals and Benteke may be in for a haul though

    Top of the morning to you all.

    Want to dó the followibg transfers over the next 2 gws

    This gw

    Eriksen > hazard

    Next GW

    Lukaku > Benteke
    Sturridge > Silva

    I think that's the right order, but I'm nervous about losing Sturridge, even though I have Suarez too

    Who to bench this week?

    A. Coleman. I think Vila will score.
    B. Soldado. Despite his big score yesterday, I'm not impressed with him.

    Boruc
    COLEMAN - Walker - Koscielny - Shaw
    Ramsey - Michu - Oscar - Mirallas
    SOLDADO - Giroud - Sturridge

    McGregor - Ravel - Murner

      A. Coleman for me. He hasn't been impressive since his great run at the start. As you said, I don't believe he will get a cleanie against Villa.

      At least with Soldado there's a chance he'll chip in with a goal or assist.

    wat do u think?

    Migs
    Dawson, Clyne, Coleman
    Michu, Ramsey, Mirallas, Januzaj
    rvp, giroud, sturridge

    marshall, barkley, collins, chester

    thinking Collins -> swans def (williams, chico, taylor depending on davies injury) this week
    barkley/mirallas -> brady next week

    really want to fit ozil/haz/silva in there... which will mean rvp has to go after the stoke game
