Tottenham’s summer signing from Valencia finally produces the goods as Andre Villas-Boas’ side east past Villa. England’s latest wing sensation also plays a part, whilst four alterations from the visitors may signal the exit of a certain Danish playmaker from many a Fantasy line-up:

The Game Changer

A goal and assist in this afternoon’s win over Villa brings Roberto Soldado back into the Fantasy spotlight.

Dropped for Jermain Defoe last time out, the Spaniard regained his starting berth for the trip to Villa Park and repaid Andre Villas-Boas’ faith by playing a part in both the visitors’ goals. Today’s strike was Soldado’s first from open play this season but in spite of a stuttering start, he has, nevertheless, remained key for his side – this afternoon’s haul means he has played a part in five of Tottenham’s eight league goals this term.

Sold on by considerable numbers of Fantasy managers over the last few Gameweeks, Soldado’s display rewarded the patience of the 10% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers who kept faith in his talents. Now down to 9.2, he has home games against Hull and Newcastle in the next three to help build on today’s display and with confidence flourishing, those looking for an alternative to the current template may just decide he’s worth a flutter.

The Underused

Andros Townsend’s outstanding week continued after the Spurs winger grabbed the opener in today’s win.

Despite netting for England last week, Townsend had managed just a single assist in six league appearances, with his penchant for a long-range effort reaping little reward. His opener at Villa Park, whilst somewhat fortuitous, is likely to see increased interest ahead of next week’s visit of Hull –priced at just 5.6 in FPL, he’s currently owned by under 3% of managers.

Although Tottenham’s multitude of midfield talent means his long-term starting berth is far from nailed-on, Townsend’s rich vein of form looks likely to keep him at the head of the queue for a role on the right – Aaron Lennon’s injury comeback will only increase the competition, though.

The Selection Poser

Villas-Boas’ quartet of changes merely emphasised the strength in depth available at the Lane this season. Christian Eriksen’s owners will undoubtedly be the most disappointed after the Dane dropped out of the starting XI for the first time since making his debut in Gameweek 4.

Currently sitting in over 6% of FPL teams, the exodus is likely to get underway over the next few hours. With so many cheaper alternatives guaranteeing starts and greater returns, Eriksen’s owners will be unlikely to remain patient – there is a theory, though, that his omission was perhaps only down to his international exertions over the past week or so. At the back, Villas-Boas’ decision to hand Vlad Chiriches his first start could soon have Michael Dawson owners on edge, too – with Jan Vertonghen expected to return to the centre once Danny Rose is finally fit, question marks remain over who is likely to get the nod as the Belgian’s partner.

Christian Benteke’s return to action may have failed to ignite the hosts’ faltering attack but it will, nonetheless, have Fantasy managers on alert. Emerging from the bench around the hour mark, the Belgian – now down to 8.8 in FPL – will surely be restored to the starting line-up next time around as Paul Lambert looks to address an attack that has now failed to score in each of the last two.

    Do we think Giroud is a season keeper? I'm lining up a Giroud -> Benteke transfer in GW11 but may need some convinving.

    From GW11-17 Arsenal have City, United, Chelsea, Everton & Southampton, plus an away trip to Cardiff. Only Hull at home looks ripe for Giroud in that stretch.

    This run of games combined with Wally possibly sharing the goals = a valid reason to depart the Giroud wagon?

      See prev page. Wally injury setback.

      Only problem is that Giroud will be so much more exp to buy back(not that this is ever a reason to not sell a player)

      Ars's gw 12-14 still looks good...

        Would set me back 0.4m, which isn't small, but equally isn't massive in the grand scheme of things. Wally should be back by GW11 also (a month away) and I'd probably go with him as Arsenal cover for GW12-14.

        I think I'd back Benteke to outscore Giroud over GW11-17.

          Yeah, Benteke will be tops. he should with his first "touch" yesterday(a header). Won't most of his aerial duels i think. The guy is immense.

          Suddenly City/Chel attacking cover based on their form and fixt looks essential and that on top of Benteke is forcing my hand a bit...

          Which do you think is best here?

          A) GW9: Nolan -> Hazard
          GW10: Sturridge -> Tekkers

          B) GW9: Nolan -> Paulinho

              I guess I could, although Nolan has been stinking out my team for ages now.

              GW9: Nolan -> Hazard
              GW10: Suarez -> Aguero

              is an option yeah, although I don't really want to lose Suarez.
              Silva a good option also, but I think Aguero will comfortably outscore him

                yeah paul looks good. I just can't fit everyone in and at that price you need to play him week in week out, which I suppose should/could be done.

                Just not for me.

        I feel like I have turned a corner as for once I am above the average this week, even though I did captain Baines which was a punt too far....

      1) I have all three and most weeks I think to myself that it's too much ARS... but they just keep delivering. If all three don't, then at least two will. So for me there are other players that I would get rid of before the trio of ARS. Whether you NEED Ozil... well, let's just say I'd rather have him in my team than not.

      2) Sold him last week and haven't looked back. I just haven't seen that explosiveness that Ozil, Ramsey, Silva and/or Michu can offer.

      3) Any of the above mentioned in 2). As for CHE, I'm still confused myself as to which midfielder to be looking at. The rotation is almost as bad as City's. 🙁

    Currently on

    Should I..
    a) Eriksen -> Ramsey (GW 9-11), & have Aguero vs NOR (GW10) and Aguero vs sun (GW11).
    (Giru -> Aguero GW 10 and Lukaku -> Benteke GW 11)

    b) Eriksen -> Lallana (GW 9-11), & have Aguero vs NOR (GW10) and Aguero vs sun (GW11).
    (Giru -> Aguero GW 10 and Lukaku -> Benteke GW 11)

    c) Eriksen -> Silva (GW 9-11), & have Giroud vs LIV (GW10) and Lukaku vs cry (GW11)
    (save FT Gw 10 and Giroud -> Benteke GW 11)

    d) Be patience and stick with Eriksen before doing anything else.

    Lose RVP for Aguero to fund Lampard to Ozil/Hazard? Both will be for free. Hazard probably doesn't look better than Ozil this week, but Arsenal have pretty tough fixtures after this week. As for Hazard, he seems nailed on under Mourinho and has some good fixtures too.

        Well, what I think is, City have been scoring a lot. And I can't see Chelsea not conceding against City, even at home. And as for Chelsea too, I can see us scoring, City don't have a very good defense away from home. And we know how Mourinho is at the Bridge.

      Silva or Haz is frying my brain.

      I'm even considering selling Ozil(!) and keeping Giroud to fund Michu/Silva/Haz in midf.

      Ramsey is the only essential player in the game apart from one of SAS maybe imo. He's in ridiculous form. If you're trying to get differentials, you need them to be outscoring Ramsey. At the moment nobody is doing that, plus he's so cheap that it isn't even detrimental to have him in your team. You may as well have him and not lose any more ground and try and create a differential elsewhere...

    Problems - oh I got them, here's few.

    Vidic - stick for one more game, unless we get some more info?

    Eriksen - stick and hope he plays, not worth to get Silva or Oscar this week and not too keen on Ramsey anymore, that ship is gone from me...owners got lucky last game, surprise surprise.

    Coleman - stick? Tempted to change for Chico, but after two weeks of stupid transfers I'm really tempted to save transfer this week and just hope for a miracle.

    btw how did I end up Lukaku (c) even when it was obviously last weeks "doomed decision" 🙁

    My team looks like this:

    Vorm, Stekelenburg
    Mertesacker, Coleman, Shaw, Zabaleta, Amorebieta
    Oscar, Michu, Ramsey, Eriksen, Barkley
    Giroud, Sturridge, Soldado

    1FT, 0.3 in the bank. Would you save FT this week? Does it make any sense to get rid of Eriksen as Spurs play Hull this week? Any advice how to improve team would be great! Thanks in advance.

    Leagues Update!

    Early Bird : Stephen Woods needs 59 to be under 1M for the GW to win EB otherwise there is no outright winner. Currently 57 is the safety score so there's a good chance that Stephen Woods & LawnDart will be joint runners up.

    Last Man Standing : 41 is the max safety score.

    FPL Open (GW29) : Rank of 1.07M qualifies.

    Elite 64 (GW31) : Rank of 275K qualifies.

          Benteke Aguero Suarez sounds good. I dunno how much of a Paulinho fan I am but I know I definitely wont be losing Suarez. Strangely I was messing with my team last night started looking at Ozil out with a view to getting Walcott down the line but surely such a move is suicide.

    Jeez. Two goals and an assist from midfield, two goals up front, a clean sheet at the back, and this is a 1.2m weekly score, and a red arrow down to 620k. And there's still a fixture to come.

    Michu - Siggy - Barkley - Ramsey (JWP)

    c) JWP to Brady
    d) hold onto FT or something else?
