As always, we spend Monday lunchtimes in the classroom, considering and discussing what us Fantasy managers can learn from the Gameweek events. For the next hour or so, let’s consider the captain credentials of Luis Suarez, our failing midfields and how we can work puns into some analysis of Joe Hart’s form without alluding to a “dodgy ticker”…

It’s that little bit harder to ignore Suarez…
Yes, Daniel Strurridge scored. Yes, so did Olivier Giroud and Wayne Rooney, even the Van Persie fella notched again. Even so, as a beaming Luis Suarez ran from the pitch gleefully clutching the match ball after a first Anfield hat-trick, thousands of Fantasy managers would have been pondering the Uruguayan’s potential “essential” status. While David Moyes struggles to unshackle Van Persie, has Suarez now emerged as the most reliable captain candidate week-to-week? Six goals and two assists have seen him return in every outing since his return to the Liverpool lineup. If you backed him each time with the armband, you’d be grinning and winning this morning. How long can we really do without his brand of brilliance? Suarez needs to do something crazy to reassure this non-owner – maybe draw a blank or lunch on Jack Wilshere’s tattooed forearm at the Emirates next week.

The midfield is a minefield…
While it’s a little too easy predicting points up front and at the back, the midfield has become a major sticking point for Fantasy managers. Aaron Ramsey has been reliable enough and his assist at Palace on Saturday saw him return for the fifth time in his last six outings. All good. However, consider that Ramsey and Hatem Ben Arfa were the only midfielders with more than 10% ownership to deliver any points in the Gameweek. Chelsea’s Andre Schurrle and Everton’s unfashionable Leon Osman were the only goalscorers from the middle of the park and they boast a 2% Fantasy Premier League ownership between them. Not a single midfielder over 9.0 delivered returns other than a clean sheet.

Ross Barkley’s star is waning…
Hooked off on the hour mark in Everton’s 2-0 win at Villa, the 18-year-old had to watch on while the experience of Osman unlocked the home rearguard and handed the points to the Toffees. Suddenly the doubters are circling. Barkley’s potential is without question but, with competition for places in the Everton midfield now ramping up, Barkley is being spared pitch time and it might not be long before his owners begin to feel twitchy on his security of starts.

A fading Nani is no match for the new brand of Januzaj magic…
Booed from the Old Trafford pitch as he trudged off to be replaced by Adnan Januzaj on 58 minutes, the transition from old to new couldn’t have been more stark. Ironically, both players signed five-year deals at the club in recent weeks and, while Moyes is clearly looking to give Nani the opportunity to justify that faith, he did little to convince against Stoke. Januzaj on the other hand, immediately lifted the home crowd and injected urgency – he played his part in United’s comeback and again hinted that Moyes needs to start the 18-year-old or risk seeing his midfield slip into slumber, with an increased reliance on Robin van Persie or Wayne Rooney to conjur something from nothing. Surely we’ll see a Januzaj start at Fulham?

Nobody wants to welcome the Hammers to their backyard…
The 0-0 at the Liberty handed West Ham their fourth clean sheet on the road from five matches – the only goal they’ve conceded away from home has been the rather dubious Robbie Brady spot-kick at Hull City. While there have been seven goals shipped at Upton Park, clearly the West Ham back four continues to offer Fantasy managers value, particularly if we can count on them to offer returns on their travels. The Razvan Rat fans are building, although I’ve an inkling that a first James Tomkins goal is just around the corner – 4.7 anyone?

Pellegrini may not spare Hart this time…
Manuel Pellegrini’s refusal to defend Joe Hart after Chelsea’s calamitous winning goal is almost being seen as the writing on the wall for the City keeper. Predictably the papers are looking to create a story out of nothing but, having said that, the pressure on Pellegrini to address the confidence of his keeper is mounting. Earlier this month we saw the City boss state that he faced a difficult situation with Hart; that his form was a concern and his place in the starting lineup under consideration. Following Sunday’s events, that dilemma will be revisited and the Chilean may well decide that a hand on the shoulder is no longer the option to take – Costel Pantilimon is available at 4.9 in the FPL. Just saying.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Arsenal's last 6 league games:

    4 were away

    Michu Analysis:

I've seen a lot of people frustrated with Michu and looking to ship him out, for me I wouldn't at all. Here's some key stats and things to think about with Michu and why I think people should hold onto him.

    Swansea's upcoming fixtures -Cardiff (A) Stoke (H) Fulham (A) Man City (A) Newcastle (H) Hull (H) Norwich (A)

So far this season, Michu's scored 2 goals, one against Liverpool at home and one against Crystal Palace away.
Out of the 9 matches played so far this season Michu only scored 3 goals in these last season, Manchester United, Sunderland and West Ham all at home.

Also people are comparing Michu's performance at the start of last season to the end of 2012 and the beginning of 2013 until now. Michu hasn't been as prolific as he was at the start of last season, but he's still been good in my opinion.
There has been 27 Premier League matches since the start of the year and Michu has featured in 25 of these, playing at least 60 minutes. In these matches he's got; 7 goals, 2 assists, 5 yellow cards and 9 clean sheets. This totals up to 95 points - 3.8 points per game (that's without bonus points and captain choices.) If we times this by 38 (the total number of matches in a season) it equals 144.4 points. This season he's on 4.1 points per game, 155.8 for a season. But last year he scored 190 points, an average of 5 points per game.

Why has Michu returns declined? One factor is he returns better when playing as an attacking midfielder. He played in this role in 63% of games he played at the start of the 12/13 season, until the end of 2012. In these games he played as an attacking midfielder he scored 10 goals of his 13 goal total.
He has played as an attacking midfielder 48% times from the start of 2013 up until and including today out of the 25 matches. This season he's played as a centre forward in 3 out of his 9 matches.

Also they weren't playing in the Europa League last season, and Swansea don't have a huge squad to rotate.

Another factor which may have affected Michu's returns is the amount of goals Swansea as a team have been scoring.
From the start of last season until the end of 2012, Swansea scored 27 goals in matches that Michu played, which is on average 1.42 goals per match. Where as for the whole of 2013 (25 matches) Swansea have scored 27 goals again, which averages at 1.08 goals per match. This season they've scored 12 goals in 9 games, 1.33 goals per game.

    And here's some other stats from last season in the Premier League;

    Goals -
    Total: 18
    Relegated Teams (6 goals) & Top 5 Teams (5 goals): 11
    Other Teams: 7
    Home: 11
    Away: 7
    Position - AM: 11
    Position - CF: 7

Michu clearly likes the numbers 11 and 7!

just a quick read, but your stats seem to justify selling.
they are still going to be in europe
and they aren't looking like scoring more goals. plus add to this laudrup desire to include bony, which may impact on the space michu gets compared to last year, when the virtually had nobody up front

No. The game is about getting the most points. What's the value of spreading the cash around the squad when strikers are the most explosive, profitable and captainable players. Looks good to me

Pienaar coming back ups the contention in Everton attack, and at the same time offers some rest for young Barkley.

That being said, it's the similar situation as with Spurs and Lennon basically - decreases secure of all attacking midfielders including Townsend and Barkley respectively imo.

I know this is a couple of days late but I've only just started thinking about it.

Leroy Fer is a massive arsehole for trying to score from a throwing that arose from Cardiff kicking the ball out for a Norwich player to receive treatment.

It's disappointing and a bad example when a professional footballer just completely ignores sportsmanship. Chris Hughton should have a stern word with him.

      what a disaster.
No idea why you get a City defender atm
      Ozil better than Silva
Giroud is better value than Aguero

depends how happy you are with your team. keeping and benching for the manchester games could be profitable, but also no doubtingit frees up a nice chunk of money
