These are hazardous times. Shopping in midfield is a thankless task, with little value and consistency on offer, aside from a pair of dominant forces who threaten to break the season, along with the hearts and minds of those too stubborn to jump on board their seemingly relentless bandwagons.

In this latest episode of the podcast, I lay the blame for my inept season squarely at the feet of my failing midfield and my reluctance to give Aaron Ramsey the time of day. Oh, how I crave those predictable days of the ever-reliable “Power Five”.

Granville does his best to ensure that my moans fall on sympathetic ears, although his sniggering gives him away on more than one occasion. In between giggles, my co-host joins me to dissect the week’s transfer activity, preview the weekend’s fixtures and mastermind another mediocre Gameweek for the ScoutCast lineup.

I think an important thing to remember this week is that if you can't afford a michu replacement you believe will outscore your next sub, don't bother. You don't have to replace him if no alternative looks like realistically giving you profit, especially for a hit. Points all count the same no matter how they arrive.

Yeah. Luckily he's falling slowly because of his red flag. If we're lucky he might even not fall on friday night.

Obviously btw if anyone is at risk of not fielding 11 your next sub is 0 points so it's an easy decision...

Depends on your next sub but looks OK, one of the best options this week anyway. At least he's safer and consistent for a big team. Don't think the options are that brilliant this week though hence the warning!

I don't really fancy GJ anymore, now that Liverpool might move back to a 4 at the back formation. So he won't be playing on the wing anymore in a 3412.

      How about Williams or Pieters?

The strange thing is I am hoping for 4 at the back if I would get him as the defense has suffered with the 3 man defense, while keeping 3 CS in the first 3 games with 4 in the back and one of the best defenses in the league last season in the same system.

Think I'd go with GJ personally. But for that price, the lack of CS is a bit worrying so would be more tempted by more budget friendly options such as Williams or Tomkins/Rat or even Debuchy/Coloccini from next week.

    DEVASTATED BY INJURIES

Please help, should I proceed with this defense for this gameweek:

Rosenior, Clyne, David Luiz (Reid(injured, Luna(injured))

Or take a hit to sort it out. (suggestions how? williams? glen johnson?)

Rest of the team is this:

    Boruc HUL (H)

Morrison NOR (A), Hazard WBA (H), Silva SUN (A), Oscar WBA (H)

Agüero SUN (A), Suárez FUL (H), Benteke CAR (H)

Generally the advice is not to take a hit for defenders. But since you might struggle to put three out this week it might be warranted. A clean-sheet would see you break even so I'd swap Reid out, maybe for Williams? Of course if Luiz plays you needn't worry, I don't know how likely he is to? Presumably you have a better idea if you bought him.

I know this is controversial, but Luiz is a very important piece of a puzzle for Chelsea. All Mou is trying to do is get Luiz to play like he does for Brazil. Mou said a few months ago that Luiz is basically world class and "has to play always".
Im a die hard Chelsea fan, basically got Luiz for clean sheets (which sadly Chelsea haven't been keeping and Luizs shots from distance, through balls(ie. assists)

Silva is a doubt, Ramsey has united away. Wait and see after the international break, you might have more pressing needs then.
Walcott will be back by then too, so Arsenal's play style will be affected, who knows how Ramsey will be affected.
      FYI
Ramsey's accuracy stats are curently higher than Messi's in his best year. ramsey is not better than MEssi therefore he is overachieving and will considerably slow down.

Good point. I have considered that actually. There's no doubt that he's an amazing player and very important to Arsenal's good results. But, did you see his goals? Theyre so unlikely to happen more than 50% of the time a player would attempt them unless of course it's messi. Crazy dribbles or control then cracker shots, or simply right palce at the right time to win an aerial battle where the defender is much taller. I can't see these events to be continuous.

i was gonna wait until he got a start but it's only a matter of time and i don't see many alternatives in his price range, the only midfielder i really want is yaya toure. I can't afford Rooney and Remy and Lukaku seem better prospects over Bentekke. I've already got Barkley and Morrison, I don't really want another 5.0-ish midfielder.

Given fixtures, I'd get rid of Coleman. After this week, I don't think I'd want to be playing him for any of the next five. Try Clyne or Rat or Ben Turner instead and upgrade Lamela to perhaps Nasri, Oscar, Hazard, Walcott, Silva, or Ozil. I'd be concerned about Barkley's minutes and fixtures too.

Lamela and JRod are knee-jerk picks based on today's events. Harper isn't a long term option when providing back up to a keeper who has some tough fixtures coming up - Southampton can't keep clean sheets forever.

Wouldn't go anywhere near Coleman, Lamela or Rodriguez on a WC.

I'd look to get Rooney/Benteke in and maybe a punt on Coutinho if you can afford that. Alternatively you can go strong in DF as you have but I'd probably have Ashley Williams in there somewhere. Maybe even get Debuchy/Krul for Newcastle's fixtures from next GW.

Probably get a sub appearance at the very least.
And it's the risk that comes with purchasing him. One I don't mind given his ridiculous goal scoring form ATM. Even his points just from last week (36) are enough to keep me satisfied for a few weeks 😉

To make room for Rooney, I already have Aguero and Suarez. My thinking is this, Rooney will outscore Ozil and Coutinho will outscore Benteke in the next five gameweeks.

coutinho actually looked really good at the start of the year lol.. when he came off injured v swansea liverpool couldnt get the ball forward at all! i think its too soon to say his half the player he was last year. i think he will improve from last year. that was only his first time in the PL and how good was he. most find it hard to adjust but not him. his young and will be massive this year i think.

Agree that last year was astonishing for someone so young. I think defences have worked him out a bit and he hasn't adapted as quickly. Hazard was similar but seems to have found a way to mature.

when you say defences have figured him out.. he was dangerous in those 3 games.. nearly got assists.. but liverpool were much more defensive. most of the time he only had sturridge infront of him. it looked like him and sturridge were the only threats for liverpool. now that suarez is there, i think that boosts couts appeal.

He looked very dangerous on those 45 mins vs Arsenal. My thinking is that he's got a very easy fixture list ahead of him until Spurs. Remember his assist for Sturridge against Fulham last year? Now imagine him having both Suarez and Sturridge in front of him.

Those two will score, no doubt about it, it's just a question of who will assist them. And LFC will now revert back to a 4-4-2, which will offer some stability in the middle that they have lacked since playing 3-5-2.

3 5 2 is perfect for coutinho..its more like a 3-3-1-1-2 with coutinho being the 1 behind the strikes. rodgers wants him playing the number 10 role like oscar does for chelsea. the 3 infront of the CB's are 2 wing backs and lucas playing CDM with obviously gerrard playing just infront of him. its a work in progress and i think what it lacks atm is no glen johnson and no enrique. apart from that i think its a great refreshing tactic.

I have Benteke too, am extremely disappointed with him last 2 weeks. Basically if he doesnt score this week, he's out, dont care for his lack of healthy teammates excuses, when he misses penalties or one on ones. So my point is wait a week.

Yeah, -4. I got Benteke last week. Could be a big mistake. But now there's this option with Coutinho, maybe I should ship him out ASAP this week? LFC got a really easy fixture list and Coutinho can be devastating against lesser teams.

Think it's not worth for -4. Coutinho could be the same story as Benteke. Wait until he starts scoring or at least gets the full 90 and looks good. International break is coming up too, better to wait and see how things progress.

Yes. He's been playing well and getting forward, and I'm expecting him to increase returns before fixtures stiffen. He's a good shout at home to Newcastle this week and then I might think about transferring out for the tough run after.

I can't really see where all your money is going. With two budget keepers, Baker, Williams, Cabaye, Barkley and JWD, I would assume you had respectively either two or three >8.5m mids or forwards.

Not saying that having the most expensive players is a goal in itself, but just by looking over your team, it seems like your not reaching your full potential.. 😛

Just did the math, it does add up to 100.4 with todays market value. Guessing you got some of them cheaper, and that you might have saved up some in the bank suggests to me that you could spend some more to upgrade either Harper, Baker (once McGregor and Luna are back from injury), Barkley or JWP (who's minutes are threatened by other players).

also isn't baker first choice centre back? he was injured and taken off after 17 minutes against Arsenal and played 90 minutes most games since his return. at 3.9, he can only go up and with very easy fixtures he should give me some profit in the coming weeks.

only got 100.3m to play with, had some poor choices at the start. Would love to have a nasri/oscar/hazard/coutinho/silva/toure/walcott etc but they are 2-3m more than cabaye and i have no way of freeing up that kinda cash. brought in ozil, suarez and aguero this week who were all so expensive haha.

Switch Ozil to Cazorla which should free up about 1mil, JWP is a risk, probably go for Lallana if you have to have a SOTON mid, but their fixtures are going to be poor after Hull.

    Hi all

Mulling over some ideas re Michu at the moment.

    Team is:

    Boruc (McGregor)
JT, GJ, Chico, Shaw, (B Turner)
    Ozil, Silva, MICHU, (Janusz, Amalfitano)
    Suarez, Benteke, Lukaku

    0.5 in bank

Had 2 FTs this week and have already brought Benteke in for Giroud. Need to ditch Michu. Options as I see them are:

    1. I have not owned Ramsey all year (I know, I know) and I'm wondering if I should just bite the bullet and get him in before his upcoming price rise, thinking longer term rather than just the Man U away game this week.

    2. Otherwise I keep going with my 3 expensive mids template and get in Haz, Oscar, Coutinho (question marks over all these three for various reasons I feel) and keep risking Ramsey killing me every week.

    3. Sell Michu for a budget mid (Snodgrass?) and upgrade Lukaku next week.

    3. Save the transfer, play a bench player, hope that Michu doesn't drop before deadline and get Ramsay or someone else after the Intl break.

All thoughts/opinions appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I'd do Michu for Ramsey with a view not to this week but to long-term returns. He's the second-leading scorer of the whole game and is still cheap. There's no excuse for not having him now.

Thanks, though you're ahead of me, I see! However I've got £3.5 on you in team value, which should kick in after the next wildcard. For me getting Ramsey early has been one of the biggest advantages. The changes in the system of price rises and drops has meant it's more important this season to ride bandwagons early and make transfers as soon as you think someone is a going prospect.

Have just got Ramsey for Michu. Feels good to be able to relax about AR's scores, finally! Not expecting much this week, though would not be surprised if Arsenal won.

      Thanks all for the input.

Should I play Brady(sou) or Whittingham(avl) this week? Are there still concerns over Brady's health/fitness? Cheers 🙂

Norwich should get a CS this week because the Defenders have a point to prove. West Ham is sh*te away from Uptown Park, that WHL fixture is surely a one-off occasion.

Ravel owners, let's bench him. 😉

I still haven't decided whatever to play him or not.

      Slowly leaning toward playing him.

I agree that Norwich def have a point to prove. They will definitely improve. BUT, owners of Norwich def should be nervous. The manager will also have something to prove and may just tinker with his lineup.

West Ham are decent away. Home form is worse.

      Neither. I'd pack Januzaj.

Redmond might not start, has been struggling with minor injuries lately.
Start Mirallas out of those two.

Has to be Mirallas out of these two, could easily score/assist against Palace. Redmond is doubtful and Norwich are struggling for goals.

Starting to wish I had brought in coutinho for Michu, instead of silva. Hm.
