As we’re all very much aware, midfielders have been a real let-down this season for Fantasy managers thus far. Aside from Aaron Ramsey’s sensational displays for Arsenal, there have very few options for us to look upon as reliable assets – Adam Lallana’s recent rise to prominence has already persuaded over 78,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers to snap up the Southampton skipper, despite games against Arsenal, Chelsea, City and Spurs in the next six Gameweeks:

With this in mind, in this latest article for members, we‘ve turned to the Custom Stats Tables feature in the members area and assessed the midfielders with the most impressive data over the last four Gameweeks. For the purposes of this table, and in order to include some of the standout players across key categories, we set the bar to ensure each of our 16 candidates registered a minimum of 5 shots, 5 chances created, 2 shots on target and 1 shot inside the box between Gameweeks 8-11.

What do you guys think of Baines to another everton defender in the long term. To be able to afford Arnautovic/Brady to Walcott?

Im really thinking Baines does not justify the extra 2 mil spent, despite the extra 3-4 goals that will come from the penalty spot.

I mean is 2 extra mil worth approx 25 pts? Tough call, but it feels correct for me

      well I dont know we are getting some strange spiecies developing in the flora and fauna, crops acting strange(actually better for now, but who knows where it is heading). Kind of fear of the unknown, I guess. Im also annoyed that I brought new winter tires a month ago when we had the first - degrees. Now I am wearing all my spikes out on the tarmac with +10 outside.

General consensus on this forum, and other FF forums is that Silva is the 'pro's' pick from the Man City midfield, and YaYa the 'casuals' choice.Decided to do a comparison of this season, and the previous three seasons(which were remarkably consistent).

Silva:- this season, 42pts. from 7 games@6.0ppg.

last 3 seasons, 475pts from 87(simply divided mins. played by 90) games@5.5ppg

YaYa:- this season, 65pts. from 11 games@5.9ppg.

last 3 seasons, 427pts. from 94 games@4.5ppg.

Silva is obviously the pick on past seasons. But when the new bonus points are factored in, there is a turnaround.

Silva:- this season 3pts from 7 games. Multiply 3pts by 5.5 for a season tally of 16pts.

last 3 seasons 61pts, or 20pts per season.

YaYa:- this season 11pts from 11 games, Or 38pts a season.

last 3 seasons 54pts, or 18pts per season.
(all calculations done to one decimal place, and weighted in Silva's favour, so as not to appeared biased towards YaYa).

A quick calculation (based on what is obviously a small sample size), for the previous three seasons, taking the new bonus points into account would be:-

Silva:- 475pts -13pts(61 - 3x16) = 462pts. Or 5.3ppg.

YaYa:- 427pts +40pts(94 - 54) = 467pts. Or 5.0ppg.
(Probably have not explained the maths above too well. but if you have followed it this far I think you will get the gist of it)

We all new at the start of the season that the new bonus system would be aiding players of Yaya's ilk., and hindering those like Silva. Was selecting YaYa at his initial price of 8.5 such a mistake?

Bearing in mind we now know YaYa is on freekicks, not likely to be rotated, and(unlike Silva) seemingly bombproof when it comes to injuries, not worth considering him now to be the way into City's midfield, even allowing for the current 0.3mil difference in price?

(Feel free to poke holes in my methodology/calculations.)

    Agree with injuries playing a part, but from a different angle. Silva has already had two injuries keeping him out of action. He isn't the most robust of footballers IMO. How many more matches will he miss? How many transfers will be wasted getting him in and out?

  I've proudly owned Yaya over the past 3 years.
  
  However, I gave him a miss this year bc he was going to be playing much deeper than in years past.
  
  My mistake!
  
  Now, what's prevented me from bringing him despite his sucess?
  
  Yaya is a first half wonder every year but, his production falls off sharply because of his Africain Cup commitments.*
  
  This time away clearly takes away from his total score but, I also find he takes a few weeks to become reacclimated to the City squad again.
  
  *Don't 'quote me' but, I believe he scored 2/3rds of last years points before he left for the ACN.

    Still manages 140+ pts every season. You can probably add an extra 20pts this season due to the freekicks and new bps. Which other midfielders would you be expecting so many points from this season?

      I've said I've proudly owned him in previous years.
      
      I've said I made a mistake not having him in my side this year.
      
      Set pieces or not Yaya is due to miss up to 6 weeks w/ the ACN come the new year & then another 2/3 weeks to adjust back to life in the Premiership...
      
      As it stands, I feel his price is too high now to justify bringing him in at this point in the year.

        As of 2013 the AFCON tournament was switched to being held in odd-numbered years, so that it does not clash with the FIFA World Cup.

        As far as I know the ANC is a tournament of African national teams exclusively featuring players who are active in their own national championships. No ex-patriots, not even those playing in other African leagues.
        
        AFCON is the tournament which pilfers all our FF players.

        If Chelsea beat Basel then they've pretty much qualified for the knockout round meaning a rest against Bucharest, and maybe he'll get rested for the league cup, but even then I can't see him completing 90 mins in the premier league games over Xmas period. Not sure whether I'm up for the risk of bringing him in, but there's potential there.

      Well, his injury did not relate to any of the key muscle areas. So i would say his pace would not been affected that much. He still plays off as a second striker and with giroud attracting all the attention as of late Walcott will benefit. For me, with the way Arsenal play, he has by by far the most potential to score points due to playing off the striker and arsenal playing well on the counter.
      
      Ive personaally taken a gamble on him and since no one here has gambled on him, if he scores big ill jump a fair few places 🙂
