Having analysed those teams with Strong schedules over the next four-to-six Gameweeks late last week, the second part concentrates on the less fortunate sides. Two of the top-flight’s tightest defences face their sternest test yet, while a couple of the bottom three look set for further troubles ahead:

Everton

everton12

Roberto Martinez’s men seem to have taken their foot off the gas at just the wrong time. A hugely disappointing stalemate at Crystal Palace last time out was the product of deeper systemic troubles as Everton struggle to rediscover a cutting edge. With the home leg of the Merseyside derby and trips to United and Arsenal in the next four, they can ill-afford to let this rut deepen.

A recent spate of clean sheets to atone for the lack of goals has seen the likes of Leighton Baines and Phil Jagielka hoover up bonus points but these fixtures don’t bode well for a continuation – however, it is a relatively short-term storm that many managers will be minded to ride out. The Toffees’ poor goalscoring form is more troubling, though – they have netted just twice in the last three weeks – and these fixtures may be the last straw for some owners of Romelu Lukaku and Kevin Mirallas. With Ross Barkley’s recently-curtailed game time causing concern, the time may be right to scour the market for a budget midfield alternative.

Tottenham

tottenham12

Defeat at home to Newcastle was not totally without its upside – Spurs were only kept at bay by an extraordinary goalkeeping performance from Tim Krul and their sustained assault on the Newcastle goal offers some crumb of comfort for Andre Villas-Boas. The bad news is that they are staring down the barrel of their hardest stretch of fixtures of the season so far. With a trip to the Etihad next, followed by a home game against Man United and Liverpool three weeks later, anyone hoping to invest in the league’s tightest defence may wish to wait out this upcoming spell.

Kyle Walker has declared himself fit for international duty tonight but he and Jan Vertonghen may be relying on attacking threat to supplement slim pickings from clean sheets. With just nine goals in 11 games, Fantasy interest in Spurs’ attacking assets has waned. These fixtures give us a chance to monitor for signs of life, and also perhaps to glean answers to a few questions .Vlad Chiriches has started the last four games but the jury’s out on who will partner Vertonghen in the middle when Danny Rose returns from injury to re-claim his left-back spot. Likewise, Erik Lamela’s long-awaited start could be of interest if he finds his form – the Argentine offers an option in “the hole” if Christian Eriksen is ruled out with an ankle injury sustained on international duty; reports earlier today suggest the Dane could be sidelined until February with the problem.

Southampton

southampton12

This season’s outstanding budget defence, you won’t find many successful Fantasy teams without at least one of the Saints’ backline in their ranks. Those managers face a conundrum now – the next six Gameweeks include trips to Arsenal and Chelsea and home games against Man City and Tottenham, though showdowns with Villa and Newcastle potentially offer respite.

The second most owned keeper in the FPL game, Artur Boruc will likely be relying on save points, whilst the hugely popular Saints back-four may struggle to add to their current haul of six clean sheets. Adam Lallana is in fine form, with an England call-up to reward his league exploits but these opponents could slow down the pace of his points. With two double figure hauls in three weeks, Rickie Lambert seems to have finally got his season into gear but these fixtures surely dampen any enthusiasm. Managers may wish to monitor Mauricio Pochettino’s men until Gameweek 18 when a more enticing set of fixtures heaves into view.

BE WARY OF

Sunderland
Gus Poyet may have breathed new life into the Wearsiders with a win over City but the schedule remains rather uninviting. Back-to-back away games at Stoke and Villa, followed by home games against Chelsea and Tottenham in the next four may curtail Sunderland’s upturn in form. The fixtures do pick up after that, though, and if the Uruguayan can continue the Black Cats’ progress, cut-price defenders such as Phil Bardsley or even Wes Brown could be worth a look. Up front, Steven Fletcher will be hoping to regain his clinical form of early last season, while Emanuel Giaccherini’s mid-price appeal may persuade those on the lookout for a midfield differential.

Cardiff City
Power tussles behind the scenes are the last thing the Bluebirds need ahead of a schedule containing United, Arsenal and Liverpool in the next six. Such fixtures will delay any potential investment in a defence that had produced a brace of clean sheets prior to the previous Gameweek’s loss at Villa. Managers may use this period to monitor the performances of their budget options in the shape of David Marshall, Ben Turner and Peter Whittingham, while club record signing Andreas Cornelius is also expected to return from an ankle injury in the next couple of weeks.

Fulham
Newly- appointed coach Rene Meulensteen has his work cut out as he attempts to work with manager Martin Jol to rescue the Cottagers from a dire run of form. Games against Swansea at home and West Ham away precede showdowns with Tottenham, Everton and Man City, a schedule that could see them sink further into the mire. Top of the agenda for Jol and Meulensteen will be to resurrect their dormant Bulgarian genius and coax out the goals in Dimitar Berbatov. If they can emerge from these fixtures with form intact, then defensive assets such as Sascha Riether and Brede Hangeland could also be worth investing in, while Patjim Kasami has the potential to be a very useful midfield budget enabler; at just 4.5, he’s started 10 of the first 11 Gameweeks.

It's deep in stoppage time in the Croatia Iceland 2nd leg. Croatia lead 1-0 thanks to an early goal and are going through with the first leg having ended goalless but know conceding now would put them out on away goals. Siggy wins a foul 25 yards out in a central position. He steps up to take the free kick...

What you can find out about Loic Remy:

Police are still investigating allegations made against Remy and due to the nature of the investigation Newcastle and Remy have not released any statements regarding the allegations.
Basically no one knows how long the investigation is going to take and what the findings of the investigation are going to be. Basically we could hear tomorrow or in 10 years time....

We do know that on 21st (this thursday) the police will decide how to proceed with the case. They could do one of three things: formally charge him, re-bail pending further investigation or drop the case.

If they charge him, a trial would come later but he could be remanded in police custody until the trial or he could be bailed. If the latter, Newcastle could play him or they could decide that it would be too controversial.

Wait until after 21st. Things will be a little clearer then.

Good isn't it. I must be the only person on here who owns him. Got suspended the first week I bought him, but he has genuinely won me head-to-heads just by being 2 points off the bench, which is all you can ask.

This was a time before Ravel nailed down a spot, I should add.

I actually did worse for my 5th mid. Until two weeks ago I had Pozuelo who wasn't even starting. I got him in after he assisted twice against Valencia in Europa. Sold him for Ravel and finally got a goal from my 5th mid. Now inevitably Pozuelo has just started his first Prem game.

I've been vacillating for the whole break between two different thought patterns for my transfers this week:

    1) It looks like a low-scoring week, so I should just save the transfer.

    2) It looks like a low-scoring week, so I might as well clear out the cr*p and take a few hits.

    What's everyone else doing?

It depends on fitness news to an extent, but I'm veering towards Plan 2. More fun, innit?

I think I'll have an Arsenal defender for sure and at least one midfielder. If I go without Giroud I may double up with Ramsey and one of Walcott/Ozil/Cazorla.

I sort of feel like I'm trying to be a little too clever with Bony but his stats/fixtures look promising.

Well Giroud is completely nailed on, and I can see him scoring again soon. It's relatively risk free. Probably your best (and safest) bet

Benteke has 4 away games in 6, against stubborn defenses (WBA, Sot, Sto) and a home game against United. I said earlier his fixtures are great but their actually not, bar SUN and ful

Why is RvP so far down the watchlist, and why is his form classed as B?

He has scored in his last 4 starts, and has amassed 40 points over the last 4 gameweeks, only Suarez (45) and Aguero (40) have more.

Benteke, Giroud and Bony all above him, who have 4 goals in 17 games (give or take) combined

No it's not. His price is still a huge hurdle.
He will be a differential of sorts among active players though, he hasn't had positive NTI since gameweek 3.
Also, if he loses penalties (to Rooney) after the miss in Sociedad then that's a big factor

Prpbably because he's not been playing eye catchingly well in real life, not nearly as well as Suarez anyway. I would think form is meant to reflect how well someone is playing.

FPL points depend on real life outcomes. It also would be pointless just having it as a ranking of recent points, you can get that by going to the transfers tab and sorting by Form.

I would be very surprised if Bony, Benteke and Giroud are listed as Form: A.

I remember Mark saying a while ago the decision to double up in the watchlist often comes down to whether many people would consider owning both. Obviously a lot of people owned Sturridge and Suarez and a lot own Ozil and Ramsey currently, but not many would consider owning both RVP and Rooney, not at the moment anyway.

So they've obviously made the decision Rooney + however many million is better in their eyes than RVP, but they can't leave RVP out completely.

I know that its too early in the week to make changes to my team but just looking for some feedback.
I have 1.1m in the bank and players that are tempting to drop are:
Verthongen, RVP, Lukaku, Coleman, Barkley..... Long term Chester, Boruc, Oscar maybe..

    Migs - Boruc
    Verthongen - Coleman - Chico - Ward - Chester
    Ramsey - Oscar - Barkley - Brady - Ravel
    RVP - Lukaku - Suarez

So this coming weekend, I will probably ship Verthongen who has been excellent for me to date..
    Is Terry the best option??

What other transfers would anybody recommend??

I'd hang on I think - that team could do very well this weekend - if Brady plays against Palace. Are you going with RVP (C) - could be a winner?!

You could move Coleman on, maybe, but I'm not sure it's urgent. Maybe save until next week and have another think.

Watch him regularly for Spurs... frequently impressed by his movement and touch, but needs to stop cutting in so often, for me - His shooting hasn't been up to it. Vary it up by going on the outside more often. Basically the opposite of Lennon's problem.

One match for England nonetheless. Not done anything for Spurs besides a dodgy cross that lead to a lucky goal, 50 or so shots from 30 yards out and numerous unsuccessful dribbles while Soldado waits in the box for a semi decent pass to pounce on.

Just happened to read this, so beware Suarez captainers (even if he's on Henry's private jet its the noon kick off on saturday)

    Does Jet Lag affect performance?
"The Stanford researchers dug through twenty-five years of Monday night NFL games and flagged every time a West Coast team played an East Coast team. Then, in an inspired move, they compared the final scores for each game with the point spread developed by bookmakers in Vegas. The results were stunning. The West Coast teams dominated their East Coast opponents no matter where they played. A West Coast team won 63 percent of the time, by an average of two touchdowns. The games were much closer when an East Coast team won, with an average margin of victory of only nine points. By picking the West Coast team every time, someone would have beaten the point spread 70 percent of the time. For gamblers in Las Vegas, the matchup was as good as found money."

I can copy paste more, but it makes more sense to just read the article if your interested http://www.farnamstreetblog.com/2013/11/sleep/

Intriguing, but where's the link to jet lag? So far the simplest conclusion would be that west coast teams are better than east coast teams.

The home/away difference in points would be the bit that demonstrates any effect of jetlag surely?

Also Suarez is going from west to east so presumably he will be like a west coast team and be OK?

I think the bookies odds part takes care of the simple explanation. They weren't expecting the results they saw.

Jet-lag is known to work differently in different directions (i.e. travelling with or against the direction of the sun), though I always get confused about which way round it is. I'm sure there's also a confounding factor of the effects being worse when travelling home, regardless of which direction that is (because of longer term conditioning to that timezone, presumably).

Its to do with which timezone your departing from compared to which your landing in.

If you depart in the morning and spend 12 hours on a plane but land where it is still morning then your body thinks it should be night time which messes up your natuarl rythms.

Apparantly is 1:35pm in Montevideo right now and its a 14 hour flight.

If he departed now he would arrive back in the UK at 5:35pm tomorrow but his body would think it is 3:35am, so might mess him up a bit.

Yeah, I should think that would mess him up. Different people react differently though. We surely have one or two examples of Suarez playing shortly after a game in Uruguay?

Yeah maybe how it works is that there's a penalty from jetlag, so if it's less travelling west to east, west coast teams suffer less on their away trips than east coast teams explaining the better scores.

I also am confused by the directionality of jetlag. I fly to Singapore every few years so that's 8 hours forward. I guess what that means is that I have to sleep 8 hours earlier to sleep at the right time. That's harder for me than staying up to sleep 8 hours later when I go back. Unfortunately that is opposite to the preferred direction in this study! Wikipedia also seems to say going east is harder. Very confusing.

            Happens both ways for me.
You can scroll down to read more about the jet lag thing(in the link), it says that most athletes cannot perform at their peak when their body clock (Ciricidian rhythm) is not perfect and they showed some studies across sports..

From the simplest source, Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jet_lag

"Travelling east causes more problems than travelling west because the body clock has to be advanced, which is harder than delaying it, and the necessary exposure to light to realign the body clock does not tie in with the day/night cycle at the destination."

That sounds like it would predict the opposite of what the NFL study found. EC Vs WC should mean WC team travels east, suffers jetlag and gets beaten. WC Vs EC means EC team travels west and doesn't suffer so much jetlag and stands a better chance. EC teams should do better overall.

    So, advice wanted, please:

    Migs (Lewis)
    GJ, JT, Coleman (Burner, Dawson)
    R. Morrison, Ozil, Jacuzzi, Ramsey (Pablo Hernandez)
    Kun (C), Suarez (V), Benteke

    1FT, 2M in the bank.

Hernandez probably won't play, and I'm most tempted just to save this week and have 2FT for next week - this week's so hard to call anyway that I'll probably not add a lot of value whatever I do, but are any of these worth it:

Hernandez->Sess, but who do I bench - I guess it's better cover if Januzaj or Ramsey don't make play?
    Dawson->someone? Maybe Vlaar or a Hull D?

I did think about Benteke->Rooney(C) to get a better captain choice for this week, but am 0.2 short for that one now and Benteke's worth keeping for a little while.

    Thanks!

    R.Morrison, Ramsey, Mirallas[7.2], Barkley[5.1], (Colback)

    Aguero, van Persie, Suarez

1 free transfer, 0.6 in bank

I already asked a similar question, but I still have doubts...

I don't now how to fix problems with Mirallas and Barkley and weak midfield...

    I have 2 options:

To rely on low - budget midfield (Mirallas and Barkley to Sessegnon and Snodgrass (-4)

Or to try to restore team balance - Zabaleta and Mirallas to Rat and Hazard (-4)

I don't want to change van Persie for Rooney to get money, at least for now...

Do you have some other suggestion?

I think you have a lot of people who could be rotated during the december fixtures.

If I were you, I would try to prioritise bringing in players that are unlikely to fall victim to this rotation pain e.g. sessegnon and snodgrass as you have already stated (I got sessegnon this week and will be going back for snodgrass next week).

I would maybe consider mirallas to sessegnon this week and leave barkley in your side for a bit longer - colback should be upgraded to bacuna perhaps?
