Festive rotation and Mark and Granville’s rivalry were among the key discussions taking place amongst the community this week. Elsewhere, veteran poster, Christina, upped his game to deliver a pair of popular hot topics; we take a look back on these, whilst rounding off with our usual focus on the tournaments active in the community.

The Hottest Topics

Just how much rotation will there be during the hectic festive fixture list? Greenwindmill has been offering some crumbs of comfort with his detailed analysis of how the team sheets panned out over winter last season. For a number of sides, in particular Everton and Southampton, he found that rotation was less severe than we expected. The Serjeant has also been looking at festive rotation and in particular to investigate which teams have the most cluttered Christmas.

For those looking to scrape the very darkest depths of the Premier League barrel Christina has been on hand to look at the slender pickings among the worst performing clubs. Jonathan Walters and Dimitar Berbatov are among those ultra-differentials being offered up.

Not sure what they’ve been putting in the water at Christina’s place, but the community verteran has been flying this week, notching up a second hot topic nomination, this time looking ahead to the January Wildcard and the best time to throw it down.

The tussle for supremacy among ScoutCast rivals Mark and Granville has captured the imagination of Just A Hat this week, who wonders if Granville will maintain his mini-league lead. Lateriser12 feels that Granville is set thrash Mark this season, while Tinkerman envisages a miraculous comeback for Mark.

Among those to answer our hot topic about whether Christmas is the season for giving our bench fodder an overhaul, or taking a risk that they won’t be needed was Fratboy, who is seizing the moment to ditch Cardiff’s Jordan Mutch.

Captaining a player in an early Saturday kick off is often seen as the nemesis of any superstitious Fantasy Football manager. Luckily Nice To Finally Michu was on hand to run roughshod over this old wives tale. His analysis of captain options in the early games this season so far show that whether a player starts at 12:45pm or 3pm makes no difference to their chances of racking up a respectable points haul. I also dropped my monkey’s foot in surprise.

The Community Leagues

Thomass67 tells us he is launching a doubles β€˜Big Bash League’ shortly. For more information and to register ahead of the November 29 deadline click here.

TorresMagic’s Last Man Standing lost another 32 managers this week leaving 586 left. Myo Min Thant leads seeding for the FPL Open and Beric leads for the Elite 64 competition. More details can be found here.

Meanwhile the FFS UEFA FA Cup Tournament is underway this weekend. A review of last week’s stage and the latest on this week’s can be seen here.

    How about a new FPL rule?

    No "auto-subs" in case one of your starting players does not play and your first sub possible has scored negative points.

    I am dreading Walker coming on and taking off 2 points from my overall score.

        Terry, Evra, Clyne, Ward

        With my future plans of getting Hazard & Rooney in GW14/15 that leaves me with 4.8m for the 5th defender. Ideally a bit less to accommodate some inevitable price rises.

    I gotta say Martinez has b@lls.. When baines walked off injured i fully expected a defensive move with probably Hetinga coming on with Distin shiftin to left back(Years of Moyes conditioned me for that).. but he brought on Deulofeu and moved Barry to LB in a Derby!! Fantastic move!! Watching Mirallas play in the free role brought a tear to my eye.. He played brilliant. Considering Oviedo is horrid i'd wager he does similar vs Stoke(Barry may be slow but did not put a foot wrong at LB) thereby enhancing the attacking prospects of the Everton front 4... They looked seriously good..

    Third week running I've had 2FT, so maybe now is the time to do some surgery. Scoring well, but not that well. Captains are saving the day at the moment.

    Boruc | Davis
    Baines | Terry | Chico | Clyne | Burner
    Ozil | Sess| Ramsey | Barkley | Ravel
    Suarez | Aguero | Lukaku

    2FT 2.6m

    My first thought is to navigate the tricky defensive fixtures this week. With Baines looking to be out, I'm having to move him out a week earlier than intended.

    Baines & Chico --> Mert & Johnson.

    Week after I can go Ozil to Walcott perhaps. Which will give the cash to go Barkley to a Haz or Silva.

    Any opinions gladly received.

      Why don't you use one of them? You can't afford to be wasting transfers. Specially with 2.6 ITB. Arsenal have tricky fixtures, is Mertesacker the way to go? Johnson is a good choice, but I would get in a defender with more attacking potential.

    1. Perhaps the toughest decision for next week will be the captian choice: Aguero or Suarez? Thats the first question.

    2. The second important question to ask is who are the best three strikers to have for the next 4 weeks?

    The main contenders are: Suarez, Aguero, Rooney, RVP, Lukaku, Remy, Giroud, Sturridge, Negredo.

    Please put these players in order based on priority of acquiring them.

      2) Must Have: Suarez, Aguero... In form: Remy, Sturridge, Rooney Returning back to form: Guroud, Lukaku

      But have gone for Lukaku in place of Giroud

        I had Giroud from start of season but sold him when he dipped in form. I don't know if he's as consistent for his team as SAR. I think Negredo will be a big scorer come the end of the season he looks pretty damn good and he's always lurking in the box Aguero does all the work and obviously he's class but value for money Negredo is a great differential. My concern is between remy and lukaku in the long run.

        Good point about CL. I was thinking that Swansea will look to park the bus against City seeing what happened to the last two teams that came to the Ettihad. I really can't see them scoring for fun again as Swansea and their manager are not stupid to offer them the space that was given to them by Norwich and Spurs.

        Yeah I think SAR are the best three strikers atm but they are pricey to have and will take away quality from mid so at the mo I have S A and remy. I will have to look and decide after next week's newcastle home game whether to stick or change.

          His first EPL season... Santi was also giving Fantasy points in short bursts last year... Patience on Ozil maybe rewarded at end of season... But if you sell him now, it might be difficult to get him back later on if his price increases more.

    Seems like Clark and Baker will be competing for the CB slot, so both are probably a no-go zone now.

    I'm looking for a Villa defender this week - the safe choice seems to be Vlaar, but I remember Lowton having a very decent attacking threat last season, and now Luna is back also (and I think he does too).

    Best option from the 3?

    a) Vlaar (4.5m)

          Laudrup said GW14, so for (NEW, HUL). Far fetched plan is this:

          GW13: Baines -> Vlaar/Lowton/Luna
          GW14: Nasri -> Walcott/Michu/Cout
          GW15: Giroud -> Rooney
          GW16: Walcott/Michu/Cout -> Hazard

          Gotta play the fixtures innit.

              I dunno - can't see SOT getting spanked by anyone this year, and then it's 2 away games to teams who have been fairly tight at home of late. Could well backfire, but could be great. As long as Haz doesn't go above 9.7m by GW16 I should be fine funds wise.

    Looking at a 2 week punt for a midfielder for GW14/15 before they become Hazard - best option?

    a) Walcott (HUL, EVE). HUL is plum, and Walcott vs Barry? LOL
    b) Coutinho (NOW, WHU). Prime fixtures
    c) Michu (NEW, HUL). Prime fixtures, but may not be match fit.

    a) would mean triple ARS for HUL, but still, gotta be wally right?

        Hazard has sunderland and stoke. If you want him just get him. Playing around with such short term moves usually ends in tears. Good chance haz outscores them and/or injuries and such mean you need to do something else in gw16

      Why not just get hazard in directly? i know his away form is bad but he's playin sunderland in one of them and you'd be wasting a transfer swapping one of those 3 out(so consider that a -4 even if you use a FT.. it makes sense πŸ™‚ ) .. and btw Walcott vs Barry may not be so easy.. Barry will actually stay back and defend as he does not have the legs to attack makin it more difficult if anything :). Michu may be back GW 14 but wont be match fit and it's not like he was bangin em in b4.. Coutinho just does not look up for it in the EPL

    RMT guys?

    Mignolet
    Baines / Terry / Clyne
    Ozil / Ramsey / Ravel / Januzaj
    Aguero (c) / Rooney / Suarez

    Lewis, Brady, Chico, Rosenior.

    0.2 in the bank, 2 FTs.

    Obviously Brady and Rosenior are a problem, but there's nowhere for me to get the cash to upgrade without downgrading Ozil who has two great fixtures ahead. Also thinking of dropping Rooney because he might get rotated with the fixtures up next. Any advice on whether to sell him? I also want to get rid of Clyne for the next few weeks.

    A) Ozil + Brady > Sess + Walcott/Coutinho
    B) Rooney + Brady > Sess + Benteke
    C) Clyne > Vlaar, save FT.

    Thanks guys!

    Hi Darko,

    Thank you for your e-mail.

    Ross Barkley wasn't given an assist for the first Everton goal as the Leighton Baines free kick was deflected by Martin Škrtel not Barkley.

    Assist points awarded by Opta within Fantasy Premier League are calculated using additional stats which may differ from other websites. For example, some other sites would not show an assist where a player has won a penalty.

    For the avoidance of doubt, points awarded in-game are subject to change up until one hour after the final whistle of the last match of any given day. Once the points have all been updated on that day, no further adjustments to points will be made.

    Hope this helps clear up any confusion.

    Regards,
    Fantasy Premier League Support

    Looks like Baines might be out for a month with a fractured toe... this puts a dent in my plans for sure...
