There’s a trio of new arrivals on this week’s Tightrope, the most high profile being a certain United frontman. Wayne Rooney’s caution during Sunday’s draw at Cardiff, picked up for a seventh-minute “challenge” on Jordan Mutch, means he has now accumulated four yellows – if he receives another in any of his side’s next eight league matches between now and January 1, Rooney will serve an automatic one-match ban.

Earlier today, it was confirmed Rooney will not face any retrospective action after kicking out at the Cardiff player, as the incident was dealt with by the referee at the time. Similarly, Everton’s Kevin Mirallas looks set to escape further punishment for his challenge on Luis Suarez in the Merseyside derby – the Belgian, who was also booked for the indiscretion, has since admitted he was lucky not to be dismissed.

According to reports earlier this afternoon, Cardiff’s Gary Medel has escaped punishment for apparently raising his hands in the direction of United’s Marouane Fellaini in yesterday’s 2-2 draw.

Rooney was also joined on the Tightrope by Everton’s Ross Barkley and Southampton’s combative central midfielder Victor Wanyama, who were booked against Liverpool and Arsenal respectively. We now have 26 players sitting on four yellow cards, with only three clubs – Crystal Palace, Liverpool and Cardiff – not represented.

Liverpool do, however, sport the player with the most bookings to his name – Lucas has incurred the referee’s wrath no fewer than six times in the first 12 Gameweeks. Sunderland defender Wes Brown and Palace wide man Yannick Bolasie were both dismissed for dangerous play at the weekend and are currently poised to serve three-match bans.

The FA confirmed earlier today, however, that both clubs have contested the decisions – the Black Cats are particularly confident of winning the appeal in light of Brown’s challenge on Stoke’s Charlie Adam in a 2-0 loss at the Britannia. Fulham’s Sascha Riether will complete the last of a three-game suspension against West Ham; he will return for the Gameweek 14 home clash against London rivals Tottenham.

Gus Poyet welcomes Lee Cattermole and Andrea Dossena back into the Black Cats’ fold for the trip to Villa after the duo’s respective three-match suspensions came to an end last Saturday. Elsewhere, Mathieu Debuchy returns for Newcastle’s home game with West Brom, having served a one-match ban at home to Norwich for accumulating five yellow cards, whilst Mathieu Flamini is back for Arsenal’s trip to Cardiff, giving Arsene Wenger a double-pivot dilemma away to the Bluebirds.

What is a good result for OR at end of season for a first timer (assuming he sends time reading sites like this time), 100k, or even better?

That's nonsense really. Luck is getting a double points return from Rooney(c), rather than what could quite conceivably have been minus points.

I agree that you shouldn't take risks on your captain pick and that this tactic lends itself to scoring consistently, but luck still plays a huge part in this game (auto subs, vice captains, etc.).

Not really. You can minimize how much future bad luck might affect you by playing your cards right but we have no control over how much completely unpredictable things that hurt our ranking can happen. If you get really unlucky with injuries etc you will have a bad season no matter how good you are.
A few people have ridiculous runs of top 1k finishes and such then all of a sudden a 50k or worse when nothing has gone right for them

Wow top 10-20k??! Thought you need to be really REALLY good to do that, especially in the 1st season!

100k is pretty decent in your first season. ignore the snobs and the naysayers. i finished way outside 100k for 2 seasons or so. and not much better for another 1 or 2. most recent seasons were 2550th and then whatever my history says. 3 seasons inside 7k i think. don't worry. once u get the hang of it, u'll know how sh1t works. unless u fall into the same hole in which i currently find myself

I am not so sure tbh. As YaYa has his inflated score down to a couple of (brilliant) free kicks I wouls still treat him as a def. M/F.

Navas on the other hand is a player that will be utilised as a fast attacking winger and his last performance was awesome I don't think that was a flash in the pan, so expect more..

A good balance of funds, like it. Told myself Giroud was a season keeper yet still sold him 2 weeks ago.

You're pretty much set so can play the form / fixtures without worrying about injuries. I'd consider Dawson and Januzaj as up for being transferred out, with Yaya freeing up funds to upgrade those two. Yaya is quality but he isn't going to score regular FPL points for his asking price.

    Rest of the team is-
    Boruc, Migs
    Clyne, Coleman, Burner, Dawson, GJ
    Townsend, Morrison, Ozil, Oscar, Ramsey
    Rooney, Remy, Suarez

take ozil/townsend/remy out, how much you got left? about 25.8m? Aguero 12m leaves 13.8 for two mids, you could even get 1 premium hazard/wally/gerrard and 1 cheapie. get aguero.

considering the absolute monster city have become at home, anything less than 3-0 will be a surprise this weekend. Suarez capt may outscore Aguero but I wouldn't be betting on it. If it's the only 8 point hit you do all season, you can guarantee you'll get it back. if you want a mega differential I recommend lampard, very attacking last game and I believe this will continue.

    Cech Lewis
    Terry Dawson Clyne Wilson Rosenior
    Walcott Hazard Ramsey Morrison Brady
    Suarez Aguero Rooney

Was thinking Cech>Pantomime Villian, Wilson>Evra and Brady>JWP as 3 vanity transfers next 3 weeks.

I really like Evra at 6.3m, Hart playing UCL now I don't see him getting back in for a while yet, JWP perfect rotation with Raveoli (if he stays in the team, 4 consecutive 90 mins ATM)

Gotta do something about defence! boring, less good option: Wilson>Collins (Reid out till new year, doubt that would be any good, Olsson would probably be better, or Baker).

Pantilimon could come back to haunt you but it is worth the risk imo. Why is Wilson still in there? Get rid asap!
As for Brady he hasn't showed he is completely fit after the surgery but he would soon be. Lose him.
No, don't get Collins, WHU's defence relies a lot on Reid imo and with him out there are less chances that they would keep a cleanie. Olsson is better any day

Not Nasri. 6 goals and no attacking returns at the weekend. Cabaye is priced reasonably. Navas if you fancy a punt. Gerrard at a stetch given their fixtures.

nasri...not enough goal involvement, 1 assist out of 13 goals scored last two home games. I think wally will do well. can you downgrade a defender to get haz/gerrard instead of nasri? then you can get silva when he returns

people on here putting faith in defence has been everyones biggest downfall IMO. its way harder to predict when clensheets will come than guessing which players are most likely to score/assist

its totaly fine to keep coutinho for now, theres no mids that seem essential - except rambo. but he aint worth it long term. saving transfers is underrated, i always try to do it and most times it pays off

changing brady may be best, i dont want to recommend that as i still have hopes for him, but i wouldnt wanna play whitty either.

I guess changing baines may be right, depending on your orice for him,,but i dont personally trust that hes out for any length of time and i would always aim to have him in my team
