I wouldn't worry about rank until the end of January over December you could easily make your way into the top 100k and going from there to top 1k is very doable in the last 15GWs or so of the season.

You have to be really lucky to get a good first season. You will improve as seasons go by. Check my GW history for an example

e) When a rival makes completely ridiculous decisions that work out. Things like captaining a GK who is away from home who then keeps a cleanie and saves a penalty or who captains a random defender over someone like Aguero at home Norwich etc. That annoys me.
