With the explosive double Gameweek behind us it’s time to assess the usual info, including the Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries and current market trends. As always, we also look ahead to the forthcoming fixtures, offering our preferred captain setup, with one eye on Gameweek 18.

Gameweek 16 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below is a match-by-match breakdown of the players who won the plaudits from the Sky Sports reporters last time out, earning five additional points for the Man-of-the-Match award.

FixtureMoTM
Aston Villa vs SunderlandWes Brown
Cardiff vs ArsenalAaron Ramsey
Everton vs StokeGerard Deulofeu
Norwich vs Crystal PalaceNathan Redmond
West Ham vs FulhamStewart Downing
Newcastle vs West BromShola Ameobi

Man United vs EvertonTim Howard
Southampton vs Aston VillaFabian Delph
Stoke vs CardiffCharlie Adam
Sunderland vs ChelseaEden Hazard
Swansea vs NewcastleJonjo Shelvey
Fulham vs TottenhamLewis Holtby
West Brom vs Man CityYaya Toure

The double Gameweek serves as a reminder of the power of midfielders in the Sky game as they claimed 13 awards out of a possible 20. Forwards were awarded four, defenders picked up a couple and goalkeepers received just one award.

Curtis Davies is the runaway leader in MoTM awards, with six to his name, whilst Aaron Ramsey, Wayne Rooney, and Eden Hazard have now joined Daniel Sturridge on four.

Gameweek 16 Bonus Points

Only seven goalkeepers managed five saves or more – Asmir Begovic and Maarten Stekelenburg were the top shot-stoppers with a total of 11 saves each. Simon Mignolet is still top of the bonus points stats overall, having picked up an extra 10 points so far.

In defence, a total of 22 players gathered bonus, 17 for tackles and eight for passes completed – over the two games, centre-back pairing Ashley Williams and Chico picked up passing and tackling bonus, as did full-back Luke Shaw, to earn four extra points. Crystal Palace full-back Joel Ward now sits alone at the top of the bonus table with an additional 14 points.

In midfield, 31 players earned bonus points – 16 for tackling and 26 for passes. Central midfielders Steven Gerrard and Jonjo Shelvey both managed to register passing twice and tackling bonus once over the two games, adding six points to their total scores. Aaron Ramsey still sits head and shoulders above the competition with 28 additional bonus points earned.

A reminder that Fantasy Football Scout Members can access all the data regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

NameTeamValue% of Managers
SturridgeLiverpool9.213.82%
OscarChelsea7.69.62%
BainesEverton7.76.60%
BorucSouthampton4.55.07%
Van PersieMan Utd104.63%

The table for top five transfers out this week is dominated by injuries. Daniel Sturridge and Artur Boruc are expected to remain sidelined for a number of weeks, though Roberto Martinez is hopeful Leighton Baines will return in time for Christmas. Robin Van Persie has now missed the last three league games – frustratingly for his owners, David Moyes continues to remain vague on the Dutchman’s likely return date, without ever quite ruling him out of contention.

Top Transfers In

NameTeamValue% of Managers
AgueroMan City9.87.01%
RooneyMan Utd9.65.65%
SuarezLiverpool9.95.49%
NasriMan City6.35.43%
LukakuEverton8.62.97%

Five of the most in-form players in the league right now have clearly won over many a Fantasy manager, all of which look set to continue their form in the weeks to come. While four of the five most sought-after players are frontmen, Samir Nasri is an interesting acquisition right now – the Frenchman is in fantastic form and at just 6.3m he looks a shrewd purchase.

Gameweek 17 Proposed Captain Strategy

Looking ahead to the armband choices for Gameweek 16, there is an opportunity to select three captains if you choose to use a transfer. However, our preferred set-up only relies on two captains, saving our transfers for the busy fixture list ahead.

Our Strategy:
Luis Suarez (West Ham Home) → Romelu Lukaku (Arsenal Away)

For Saturday December 7, there are couple of options that stand out, namely Luis Suarez and Eden Hazard – both are in excellent form and have strong fixtures to boost their chances of producing.

For the fixtures on Sunday December 8, we opt for Romelu Lukaku. Although he has a tough fixture away to Arsenal, we have one eye on Gameweek 18, where you would be set up perfectly as Everton host a faltering Fulham at Goodison Park. Of course you could go with an Arsenal player such as Mesut Ozil against Everton for a better chance to collect short-term gains, but bear in mind it would leave you going into Gameweek 18 with your captain facing the daunting challenge of Manchester City at the Etihad.

Finally, if you’re fairly flush on transfers, you could opt to go with three captains this week. The Monday night game on the 9th sees Swansea play Hull and a quick switch to a Swans player such as Jonathan de Guzman could net you some additional points – the Swans play on Sunday in Gameweek 18 away to Norwich, though, meaning you would have to use a captain change to take advantage of Saturday’s fixtures.

I might be with you there. Silva's nice and consistent and keeps your midfield ticking over, but Michu can be explosive. Though we've yet to really see that this year.

Silva for sure. Wouldn't go anywhere near Michu. He's by no means a "big hitter" and reckon he was priced as one because of his OOP prospects, of which he has failed to deliver and/or impress. Walcott is FPL gold once he is fit and a starter.

    Mignolet (Davis)
    Terry, Coleman, Ward (Rosenior, CLYNE)
    Sessegnon, Gerrard, Hazard, Ramsey, Barkley
    Suarez, Aguero (ROONEY)

    A) Sessegnon & Rooney -> Yaya Toure & Lukaku (-4)
    B) Rooney -> Lukaku
    C) Clyne -> 5.0 Def

11 to play with 1 FT. I'm thinking Clyne > Jagielka or Coleman, but not sure yet.

    Migs
    Terry - Burner - Ward // Vlaar(?) , Clyne(inj)
    Ramsey - Özil - Hazard - Lallana // Ravel(sus)
    Suarez - Aguero - Lukaku

Is it worth a FT to ensure?

But you've thrown a spanner in the works. Cheers mate!

Only until Jan WC, of course. Then you can get a cheapie in again. I wouldn't normally advocate this but you're in the position where you don't really need to transfer, but you shouldn't waste it. Ideal time to do it.

Ravmo to somebody else...I'm carrying no passengers if I can help it. Plenty of scope for rotators in your mids as they all played midweek and Brady remains a bit of a nightmare.

Sure does, you dont know whats going to happen with him at the moment. But his returns at the start of the season were decent for the price.

Very decent and no doubt and a great pick...but I got stung last yeast by carting passengers in December so my rule this year is no excess baggage. It was during a similar week to this week when I'd allowed two non players to sit in my squad...and got hit by rotation.

Repost as lost on last page:

    So my current team is:

    Jussi / Mannone

    Ivanovic, Zabaletta, coleman, turner, shaw
    walcott, hazard, couthinho, januzaj, pienaar
    cambell, giroud, remy

I AM AWARE THIS IS A RUBBISH TEAM!!

Question is, I am 70 points behind in my mini league and first pay out is at xmas (we put some small money on it). What can I do to improve? I have 2.4m in the bank.

    Was thinking this week:

Theo to Shelvey or Brunt, and Remy to Suarez for 4 pouint hit
    Next week Giroud to Lukaka?

    PLEASE HELP!!

Downgrade the defence a bit. I personally wouldnt get rid of Theo now, he'll be back into the team and may even be played up front. He is a massive option,I reckon you'll live to regret moving him on, considering you would of got him in recently.

Look for a way to get Suarez in, he is the default captain option most weeks along with Aguero. They rotate well. You want to look at downgrading the rest of your team, not your heavy hitters and then using the cash to upgrade the forwards and 4th midfielder.

I think Bendtner will be rotated with Giroud now after his goal against Hull. Aside from rest breaks Giroud will start almost every game up front. Walcott will be trying to get his spot on the right back and with the team playing well I don't see him displacing any of the current XI easily.

That in mind I'd be looking to switch Walcott to Ramsey and put the funds towards strikers.

Totally agree about getting Suarez in. He's a must have.

My team is looking a bit shocking this week. Suggestions for transfers?
Maybe Ivanovic --> Palace defender and upgrade Ward-Prowse?

    Vorm
    Coleman Dawson Ivanovic Flanaghan
    Ward-Prowse Brady Ramsey Ozil
    Suarez(c) Aguero

    Bench: Lewis Fonte Rooney Morrison
2 free transfers, £0.1m in the bank

Hello guys! I'm thinking to replace Fonte, I have 6.0 available and I will get a hit. I already have Coleman, Dawson, Clyne and Rosenior (I know).

Which is the best defender to go with with the funds available? Is it worthy to get the hit?

    Thanks!

i don't think Chico is. Swansea fixtures turn in a few weeks and they've hardly been keeping CS now.

I'm unsure on who to pick...

Sess is the pricy one, with the least points but has the best chance of scoring this week.
Brady has been carrying an injury and could still be suffering from it, he's the cheapest and has a fair amount of points.
Shelvey has the most points, he's cheap, everyone's telling me to get him but I don't think his good form will carry on.

        I'm a bit stuck..

I can't decide whether to buy McAuley for 3 weeks or save the transfer in case I need it. This is the scenario if I buy him or not:

15: McAuley (NOR) v Gabbidon (CAR)
16: McAuley (car) v Williams (nor)
17: McAuley (HUL) v Fonte (TOT)

Taking into account that the option on the right means I have an extra transfer to use, what do you think? Buy McAuley for 3 games or not?

As always you're opinions much appreciated

i already smell FIFA corruption pigs

why France is not in pot 2?

they are lowest ranked at their own FIFA and they should be there

but they decided to go there and bribe so any european team could be throwed in POT 2 (with african teams)
