Ahead of the Scout teamโ€™s visit to the Sky studio, we roll out our usual Friday afternoon update. As always, we assess the Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries and current market trends. We also look ahead to the forthcoming fixtures, offering our preferred captain setup, with one eye on Gameweek 20.

Gameweek 18 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below is a match-by-match breakdown of the players who won the plaudits from the Sky Sports reporters last time out, earning five additional points for the Man-of-the-Match award.

FixtureMoTM
Man City vs ArsenalFernandinho
Cardiff vs West BromCraig Noone
Chelsea vs Crystal PalaceEden Hazard
Everton vs FulhamSteven Pienaar
Newcastle vs SouthamptonJay Rodriguez
West Ham vs SunderlandLee Cattermole
Hull vs StokeRyan Shawcross
Aston Villa vs Man UnitedDanny Welbeck
Norwich vs SwanseaNathan Redmond
Tottenham vs LiverpoolJordan Henderson

Midfielders came out on top once again, with seven awards out of a possible ten โ€“forwards earned two and one went to a defender. Jay Rodriguez and Nathan Redmond notched their third awards of the season so far and continue to offer budget alternatives. Aside from Eden Hazard, who has just over 14% ownership, all the other star performers sit in less than 4% of teams and will have had little effect on our overall ranking.

Curtis Davies is the front runner in MoTM awards with six to his name, whilst Hazard is now hot on his heels with five.

Gameweek 18 Bonus Points

Four goalkeepers managed to achieve five saves or more. David De Gea, Jussi Jaaskelainen, Hugo Lloris and Julian Speroni were the top shot stoppers โ€“ the Hammers keeper was the best performer of the week with a total of six saves and a clean sheet, whilst Simon Mignolet is still top of the bonus points stats overall, picking up an extra ten points so far.

In defence, a total of six players gathered bonus, five for tackles and one for passes completed โ€“ full-back Cesar Azpilicueta was closest to achieving both, falling just four completed passes short of the required 60. Crystal Palace full-back Joel Ward is still riding high at the top of the bonus table with an additional 18 points.

In midfield, 19 players earned bonus points – 14 for tackling and seven for passes. Centre-midfielders Jose Canas and Ross Barkley were the two to gather both – Barkley rather fortuitously as he managed exactly four tackles and 60 completed passes, the minimum required. Aaron Ramsey still sits head and shoulders above the competition with 28 additional bonus points earned.

A reminder that Fantasy Football Scout Members can access all the data regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

NameTeamValue% of Managers
AgueroMan City9.818.85%
Van PersieMan Utd105.17%
PaulinhoTottenham6.64.79%
GerrardLiverpool8.13.94%
GiroudArsenal8.52.91%

Our top five this week again find themselves either injured or suspended as Fantasy managers go looking for starters over the festive period. Olivier Giroud is the only name that appears to be on the end of a tactical switch โ€“ his form has slipped somewhat in recent week having not scored in the Premier league since November 23.

Top Transfers In

NameTeamValue% of Managers
RooneyMan Utd9.611.85%
SuarezLiverpool9.99.29%
ColemanEverton6.55.02%
NegredoMan City8.64.76%
LukakuEverton8.63.57%

The impact of Sergio Agueroโ€™s injury is clear to see as Fantasy managers scramble for a worthy replacement, Wayne Rooney looks to be the favorite of the masses with just over 11% drafting him in โ€“ worryingly rumors of an injury have surfaced leaving his owners sweating on the team sheet news for this week. Alvaro Negredo and Romelu Lukaku offer alternative options and come in at a slightly more budget friendly 8.6m.

Gameweek 19 Proposed Captain Strategy

Looking ahead to the captaincy choices for Gameweek 19 we have a multitude of options due to the double Gameweek. Indeed, there is even the opportunity for four captains if you can spare the transfers.

Our Strategy:
Luis Suarez (Cardiff at Home) โ†’ Wayne Rooney (Hull Away)

Or (using transfers)

Luis Suarez (Cardiff at Home) โ†’ Romelu Lukaku (Swansea Away) โ†’ Theo Walcott (Arsenal at Home) โ†’ Wayne Rooney (Hull Away)

For Saturday December 21, Luis Suarez is the clear favorite off the back of his 21 point haul at Tottenham. Other options include Wayne Rooney and Alvaro Negredo, with Danny Welbeck a United alternative if Rooney is laid up with a groin problem.

After Saturdayโ€™s games the options seem endless. Two possible tactics are highlighted above but it really depends on how many transfers you want to make in order to maximize your potential captain points. The most important point to remember is to make sure you end the Gameweek with your skipper on either a United or City player, as both these teams have favourable fixtures in Gameweek 20.

The Fantasy Football Scout League

Our own Fantasy Football Scout League is on top of the Private League rankings. With a ยฃ1,000 prize to the winner, you’d be mad not to get involved. To join, visit Sky Sports Fantasy Football and key in League Name: FFScout, League Code: 8000112.

The Fantasy Football Club

This Friday, you can catch the The Fantasy Football Club show at 18:30 on Sky Sports One HD. Fenners and Merse will be discussing the previous weekโ€™s Fantasy Football events, chatting to the scorer of the first ever Premier League goal Brian Deane and asking Jordan Henderson for his #One2Eleven. On a side note a few of the Scout team will be in the studio including our leader Mark, so keep your eyes peeled for a glimpse of the men behind the machine.

Or should I swap Williams and Jedinak around? I am playing Lukaku (and Coleman) though...

Jedinak generally gets 2pts or 3pts (if Palace keep a CS). Williams will get 2pts even if Swansea concede so put him 1st sub in case they keep a CS. Risk is 1pt unless Jedinak scores or Everton score 5 or something

High praise from Moyes: " "Patrice is one of the finest leaders around the dressing room that I have ever seen. He speaks well in everything he does and the way he speaks about the club is great.

Buying Baines was such a ridiculous idea. He's too old to be a proper Evra successor and he wouldn't add much to the team attacking wise, and very little - if anything at all - defensively. The future of United's LB position? Luke Shaw (as a fan I'd be reasonably happy on us punting on Ben Davies too).

I actually think he could be worth watching out for. Especially if Rooney is out.

If Moyes gives him the big "you are our main man" talk he could do wonders. He absolutely loves being centre of attention. If i had room for a punt over the christmas period, Young might just be the one.

*I would definitely NOT recommend getting him in now though!

    NATE

I think among all those matches against the top 8, this is the one match that in which a win would ensure that we go to the top if the table. Also, Mou has been under a lot of criticism so he would not exactly park the bus.

I know he would like to keep things tight with Rami- Mikel and possibly Lampard in there too. But honestly, we don't have the defence to keep you guys out. Hence I fancy you to score 2.

At the same time, I can't see Mert- Verm to keep the likes of Mazacar or Willian out. A tired Mert too maybe. Earlier this season, Willian, Mata and KdB put a couple past Mert and Kos.

Hence i think we could edge it. Gonna be a good game wither way

I actually think it's gonna be 1-1. Wenger's gonna keep it tight after last week's debacle

Not sure what you're referring to but Mert's had a 9 day rest and he's our most important defender. As for the 2-0, Mertesacker didn't feature in that one and it's totally irrelevant as we were without Arteta/Flamini/Sagna/Gibbs/Mert anyway

We were without most of our first team players that evening too.

Got my days all mixed up with Mert. For some reason I felt Arsenal had a midweek fixture ๐Ÿ˜•

Sorry, I know this was intended for Nate, but my thoughts are that Mourinho will set up his team to stop Arsenal from playing.

He will. He 100% will. Not doubting that for one second. My point is we haven't got the players or the system to keep it tight at the Emirates for 90 mins so we'd Have to push on

Mirallas is much more of a threat though. Valencia only offers assists really.

Best of luck though, hope it works out for you.

Does Valencia really get directly involved in things?

2 assists and 1 goal all season? plays like a right back

Exactly they are plum if I had Barkley he'd be getting the games.

Mirallas is a threat but in and out thou with Deulofeou out more game time for sure.

        What about Pienarr?

Hull and Norwich are sound home defences. Hull a real fortress, least goals conceded at home in the whole league.

Emmanuel Adebayor never did anything wrong if you think about it at Spurs. I hope he gets the start now I will definitely swoop. Or even Defoe I wouldn't mind but he might be on his way to Canada so who knows.

    Coleman, Wilson, Dawson (Burner, Chester)
    Hazard, Cabaye, Ramsey, Whitts, (RMorrison)
    Suarez (C), Rooney, Lukaku.

5.0 mil in bank. no more FT. Would you take a hit to change the keeper? What would you do? Any advices? Thanks!

its only a 2pt hit for the keeper as the others are injured. But its difficult picking one who has a CS chance this week and good fixtures to come

    Anyone watched Remy lately?

Could have scored twice against swansea had it not been for their keeper (unbelievable saves)

Missed two sitters last week which is better than not being at the end of things. You would expect him to bury them any week

Strange how he's being considered "off form"

Yes. He still is an exceptionally good finisher and with his technique and physicality he will always get to chances. I'm sure he will score some before January. I might reconsider after boxing day, but for now he stays and I expect goals.

I'm really looking around to spark my little mini revival. I already mentioned Adebayor if he gets the start and now I hoping Fulham bag Dempsey on loan. I'm really tired of hanging my hat on Ramsey and Lukaku.
