Wayne Rooney is struggling to be fit for United’s home game with West Ham. Jack Wilshere is handed a two-match ban by the FA. Robert Snodgrass and Ricky Van Wolfswinkel are named in the Norwich squad. Ben Foster is available for West Brom, James Tomkins is back for West Ham, whilst Nathaniel Clyne has returned to training for Southampton:

Reports suggest Wayne Rooney is losing his battle to be fit for the visit of West Ham. The United forward remains a real doubt after missing out in the midweek cup win over Stoke – the Telegraph reckon he may not even be amongst the subs to face Sam Allardyce’s side. Elsewhere, Nemanja Vidic is ready to return after missing the last two games with a minor injury.

James Tomkins has returned to the Hammers squad after missing the midweek cup win at Spurs with an ongoing groin problem, though Sam Allardyce has hinted he’s set to rotate over the busy next few matches.

Ben Foster is back in contention for West Brom’s home game against Hull. Caretaker boss Keith Downing has revealed he has a fully fit squad to choose from, with Nicolas Anelka and Victor Anichebe both available after missing out against Cardiff.

Jack Wilshere has been slapped with a two-match ban for a gesture towards the City fans in last weekend’s defeat at the Etihad. The midfielder misses Arsenal’s upcoming games against Chelsea and West Ham.

Chris Hughton has confirmed Robert Snodgrass and Ricky Van Wolfswinkel will return to the Norwich squad after weeks out with knee and toe injuries respectively. Both players are in contention to start against Sunderland – the Dutchman was ”touch and go” for last week’s trip to Swansea, while the Scot has trained all week.

Sunderland have been boosted by the return of Steven Fletcher and Jack Colback for the home game with Norwich. Both players missed the midweek cup victory over Chelsea with illness but are back in training – Kieran Westwood and Carlos Cuellar remain sidelined for the Black Cats, though.

Gerhard Tremmel is set to start between the sticks for Swansea’s game with Everton, with Michel Vorm sidelined due to knee surgery. Chico Flores is available after serving a one-match ban and recovering from a knee problem, while Leon Britton has recovered from a toe problem.

Villa skipper Ron Vlaar is still struggling to overcome a calf problem, Paul Lambert conceded yesterday. Chris Herd is set to return to the Villa squad, though, as they make their way to the Britannia.

Mauricio Pochettino is optimistic of a return to action for Nathaniel Clyne against Spurs this weekend. Earlier this morning, the Southampton boss revealed the defender is back in training and will be assessed prior to Sunday’s clash at St Mary’s.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter stream for breaking news as Friday’s press conferences unfold.

The England forward has been unable to train since suffering a groin strain preparing for Wednesday’s Capital One Cup quarter-final tie against Stoke City, which United won to secure a two-legged semi-final against Sunderland next month.

'go casual and captain Suarez' - how is it a casual decision to keep captaining the best player in the league who has the highest points scoring potential. Non 'casuals' over analyzing again and trying to be clever with differentials. Good luck with those choices

The use of the word "casual" is being used too loosely. Bit of crying from some people me thinks.

Ah, but does he have the best scoring potential that week? I use the word casual as casual players rarely tinker, especially over Christmas.

The other question though is - is the casual approach the best one? I'd agree with your suggestion that leaving be regarding Suarez probably is ...don't tinker, let the points roll in.

It depends on your position in ML's etc.

I'm 69pts behind and I can only imagine my ML leader will now keep on (c) Suarez. Maybe I'm wrong...

No pain no gain I suppose.

Totally, I think rather than gambling on will he won't he, back him. No doubt this will create a divide in players but I'm sticking my colors to the mast poll. If he blanks 1 week he'll pay back the next, what I couldn't risk is a hall against Chelsea/City and not being onboard

For everyone worried about players they are targeting being potentially rotated over the Christmas period, note the wise words of Big Sam:

"Over the Christmas period you have to use the members of the squad on a regular basis. It's impossible to use the same 11 players...

Few players will get 90 minutes every week for the next few GWs, so just make sure they will get enough to justify investment.

    Norwich FPL Update

Robert Snodgrass and RVW both back fit. Expect to see Snodgrass back in the team, with RVW on the bench coming on in the second half. Team highly likely to be the one chosen in the predicted line-ups.

Snodgrass coming back won't necessarily result in less starts for Redmond but may mean less game time, with Redmond now likely to be first in line to be replaced around the 70-75 minute mark. Snodgrass's return will however mean a reduction in free-kicks and corners taken by Redmond, but will boost Fer's appeal. Fer has been pushed out to the left wing in the absence of Snodgrass but will now likely retain a central berth, where he will enjoy more influence.

Uptop, when fully fit, expect to see RVW and Hooper partnered together for home matches. Away from home, especially tomorrow, Elmander will partner Hooper with RVW set to replace Hooper around the 60-70 mark. RVW and Hooper 'will take turns dropping deep to help the midfield' according to Hooper himself, his prospects as a FFP remaining unchanged.

Defence also remains unchanged, M Olsson providing both security of starts and value for money.

        Bench: Barkley,Dawson,Shaw

Got Ozil and Ramsey, so would be a triple.

Also, have worked out rival went for Negredo for Kun, so thinking Silva as have no other
        Man City players.

Suarez, as ever, has got people thinking and talking far too permanently. Suddenly it's the received wisdom that failure to ever captain him, even away to Man City, is pure madness. But not too long ago, Suarez got 2 points away to Hull. He couldn't get past Arsenal. He managed one goal and no BPs at home to Crystal Palace.

Suarez is in excellent form. Of course you captain him this weekend. But all it takes is one blank and the entire narrative will change, the talk of permanent shifts will fade. It would be much more beneficial to just plan for the short term and forget about two weeks' time, just as every month we declare a new game-breaking 'template' that is quickly forgotten. Because two months ago, that template didn't even contain Suarez.

They are a bit thin on the ground, unfortunately.

Hooper is the least crazy. Remy is out of form. Sunderland have some great fixtures but it's not totally clear who's nailed on and neither Fletcher nor Altidore are in big form anyway. Welbeck for the mental.
