Michu goes under the knife to cure an ongoing ankle complaint. Southampton’s injury problems ease ahead of a trip to Cardiff. Danny Welbeck is back in training for United. John O’Shea is a doubt for Sunderland’s visit to Everton. Leighton Baines is back for Everton, whilst Dimitar Berbatov is set for a late fitness test before Fulham’s Boxing Day clash with Norwich:

Swansea have been dealt a blow with the news that Michu will undergo an ankle operation to cure the problems that have troubled him for much of the season. Michael Laudrup admitted he expects to be without his talisman for up to six weeks.

Southampton could welcome back a number of their walking wounded for the visit to Cardiff. Luke Shaw and Pablo Osvaldo are doubts after missing the loss to Spurs with a throat infection and a knock to the right leg respectively. Nathaniel Clyne and Kelvin Davis are “approaching full fitness”, however, and could also feature against the Bluebirds.

Danny Welbeck is back in training for United after recovering from the sore knee that forced him off against West Ham. Reports suggest the forward has travelled with the squad to Hull on Boxing Day. Elsewhere, Nemanja Vidic “is fine” following injury and a throat infection in the past week.

Dimitar Berbatov is a doubt for Fulham’s clash with Norwich after missing the loss to City with a groin problem. Rene Meulensteen remains hopeful the Bulgarian will pass a late test to feature at Carrow Road, though the visitors will be without Philippe Senderos, who is ruled out next two league encounters after coming off injured early with a left abductor problem.

Leighton Baines is available for selection once again after a month out with a broken toe. Meanwhile, Nikica Jelavic is a doubt with a hamstring problem, whilst Roberto Martinez is hopeful of having Steven Pienaar available after he limped off in the second half at Swansea.

John O’Shea is an injury concern for Gus Poyet ahead of the Everton game. The Sunderland captain sustained a shoulder injury in the stalemate with Norwich, and has been assessed by the club’s medical staff. The Black Cats are already without the suspended Wes Brown after the defender saw red against Norwich, and could be forced to field a makeshift centre-back pairing should O’Shea fail to make it.

Jon Flanagan is a concern for Liverpool’s trip to the Etihad. The young defender has a hamstring injury and will be assessed, with Martin Kelly poised to deputise after replacing Flanagan in the second half against Cardiff.

Christian Benteke is “unlikely” to feature in Villa’s home clash against Palace due to a knee problem, though the Belgian has not been ruled out altogether by manager Paul Lambert.

All this, plus plenty of other crumbs of knowledge from around the Premier League press conferences have been collected for you and placed lovingly in our Team News section, along with our predicted lineups. We will keep you updated on any fresh stuff via our Twitter Feed.

I am really torn between captaining Suarez or Negredo, on one hand you have Suarez in unstoppable form but I don't think he would et double figures, City's defense isn't as easy to terrorize as spurs' or Cardiff's. While City just score so many goals at home vs big teams (4 on manu, 6 on arsenal, 6 on spurs) and Negredo should definitely be playing a role in a goal fest if it comes. I am in the top 35k and I rarely go up the rankings at all right now due to the lack of differentials. This week seems to be an opportunity to separate myself from the pack and gain some ground, but if it backfires I will slide waaaay down the rankings.

    Thoughts?

I like it. Negredo could be involved in 3-4 goals. Suarez maybe only 1, although if Liverpool do score, it's almost definitely going to be him.

Terry 60% (Luiz, Cahill could start, keeping Terry well rested for the Liverpool game?)

Interesting look at possible Arsenal rotation here.

    http://www.arsenalstation.com/2013/12/24/team-my-preferred-starting-xi-to-face-west-ham-no-ozil-or-giroud/?

The five changes suggested look good but will more likely to be spread over the two games imo. I agree that Ozil will be rested Boxing day and Ramsey against Newcastle though. Can't see them playing both games

I'm going with Wally, still pretty scared of Suarez running rampant at the Etihad though as all 5 of my main ML rivals will be captaining him. I'm hoping Wally will repay the faith and put a dint into my 80 points deposit.

B by far if you don't have Rooney or lukaku.

West ham at home isn't that leaky and not impressed by Walcott last match. Huge gamble with also Ramsey and Ozil there to grab possible points.

    Guys any opinions...

Ive got two FT's this week, team is:

McGregor- Nathan Baker, Joel Ward, Coleman- Cabaye, Yaya Toure, Ramsey, Hazard- Lukaku, Rooney, Suarez

Bench: Fonte, Clyne, Ravel M, Myhill

What should I do... I want Walcott, but would need to downgrade either Lukaku or Rooney, or maybe straight swap for Hazard. All of which I dont want to do

    Im thinking about going for

    Fonte out, Koscielny in

    Myhill out, Gazzaniga in

Is Sagna the worst option in the Arsenal defence?

Silva or Walcott? Currently have no Arsenal or City coverage.

    And happy Christmas all 🙂

If you have no Arsenal and City coverage I'd advise on getting both. If only one then walcott as he's about to explode

Really unsure of where to go with the captains armband

Rooney VS Lukaku VS Suarez VS Walcott

    Who would you captain?

        FFS'rs

Would having Terry, Coleman, and Mertesacker be overkill / too much invested there? Ive had Coleman since week one so his $ is low. My other two defenders would be Chester and M. Olsson
Thank you in advance and Merry Christmas.
For what its worth my mf is hazard/Walcott/cabaye/januzaj/barkley as that would be the area Id most likely add yaya or silva if I lower my defence.

Lukaku (c) for me... he's due, Sunderland are prone, he's due.

    All in
