[sbu_large_image] Scout Picks

We load up on a trio of Arsenal options ahead of tomorrow’s home clash against Cardiff. Liverpool and City also supply us with a couple of players apiece as the first batch of Scout Picks for 2014 make their debut this evening:

Vito Mannone gets the nod between the sticks as Sunderland welcome Villa to the Stadium of Light. The Black Cats stopper has racked up three clean sheets in the last four Gameweeks, whilst Paul Lambert’s side have scored just twice in the previous five – a home shut-out could well be on the cards, then.

A home game against Cardiff offers Per Mertesacker further chance of points. With a couple of goals and 15 bonus points to his name thus far, the big German has racked up at least 30 points more than any defensive team-mate and, with the visitors notching only once in their last five road trips, he’ll fancy his chances of another clean sheet tomorrow.

Seamus Coleman is nailed on for Everton’s trip to Stoke. The Toffees’ free-scoring defender makes the Picks for attacking potential alone – four goals in his last seven fixtures highlights the right-back’s current form and, with the Potters scoring just three times over the previous four Gameweeks, he’ll be confident of earning a ninth clean sheet of the campaign.

Liverpool’s home clash with Hull affords Martin Skrtel a chance to impress. With two goals in his last nine appearances, his aerial threat gets the nod over Glen Johnson – the likely return of Steven Gerrard boosts the Slovakian’s appeal from set-pieces. Hopes of a home clean sheet are high, too, given that the Tigers have scored just three times in their last five on the road.

Four goals and an assist in his last four starts highlight the current form of Theo Walcott. Earlier this morning, Arsene Wenger revealed the winger is set for a late fitness test ahead of the visit of Cardiff but, after being pictured in training, we’re confident he’ll feature. Given that the Bluebirds have conceded at least twice in four of the last five Gameweeks, Walcott could rack up the points tomorrow afternoon.

A trip to Southampton affords Eden Hazard the chance to continue his outstanding festive form. The Belgian has racked up three sets of double-figure hauls over December alone and looks Chelsea’s most likely source of goals against an injury-hit Saints side with a single clean sheet in the last nine Gameweeks.

Rested for the weekend win over Palace, Yaya Toure is set to return for City’s trip to Swansea in tomorrow lunchtime’s early kick-off. The Ivorian has registered double-figure returns in two of his last three road trips and, with set-piece and spot-kick duties bolstering his appeal, he could be on course for further returns as Manuel Pellegrini’s free-scoring side look for a fifth successive victory.

A trip to West Brom brings Yohan Cabaye into the fold. The Frenchman has scored in three of his last four appearances and is clearly thriving in a more advanced role in “the hole” behind Loic Remy – given that the Baggies have just conceded three to West Ham, he could be set to plunder the points once again.

Luis Suarez is an overwhelming armband favourite for Liverpool’s home clash against Hull. As the Reds look to return to winning ways after back-to-back defeats at City and Chelsea, the Uruguayan’s contribution will be key – luckily for Fantasy managers, Suarez has registered 88 points over his last five home appearances and, with double-figure hauls in all of those fixtures, the Tigers look hard-pushed to keep him in check.

Handed no more than a late second-half sub appearance against Palace at the weekend, Alvaro Negredo looks poised to lead the line once again as City roll up to Swansea. The Spaniard has scored or assisted in five of his last six starts and, with the Welsh club managing a single clean sheet in 10 attempts, Negredo’s growing band of Fantasy owners will be looking for further points at the Liberty.

With Olivier Giroud injured, we turn to Lukas Podolski for Arsenal’s home encounter with Cardiff. Given that Jack Wilshere and Tomas Rosicky are also doubts, tomorrow’s game is surely the ideal time to finally hand the German his first start since Gameweek 2 – whether it’s up top or on the left, his goal and assist off the bench against West Ham on Boxing Day highlight Podolski’s capabilities.

Palace’s Joel Ward gets the nod ahead of a home clash with Norwich. Coming in at 4.1, the defender has recently been shifted into central midfield by Tony Pulis and is looking for a fourth clean sheet in five at Selhurst Park against a Canaries side that have found the net once in their last three fixtures.

Adnan Januzaj warms the bench for United’s home game with Tottenham. Handed a sub role against Norwich at the weekend, we reckon the youngster is set to return to the starting XI in tomorrow evening’s encounter – with a goal and assist over two of his last three starts, Januzaj could pose Tim Sherwood’s troops plenty of problems.

Danny Welbeck joins his team-mate as a sub. We’d love to have Wayne Rooney as one of the three forwards but trying to second-guess David Moyes is simply impossible and ultimately a risk we’ve deemed unnecessary – Welbeck looks an assured starter by comparison and has produced four goals and an assist over the last four Gameweeks.

Just wanted a couple more replies as I'm hung over and looking at a potential -12.

Team is in an awful state Help please?

    Davis
    Clyne, Coleman, Mertesacker
    Cabaye, Morrison, Walcott, Hazard
    Rooney, Lukaku, Suárez(c)

    (Marshall, Williams, Burner, Silva)

    0FT & £0.2ITB

Double Sot defence plus a weak bench with Ravel a big doubt. I should take a hit to sort this right?
    Ideas...
    A) Marshall > Mannone
    B) Ravel > Ki/Huddlestone/Mutch
    C) Silva > Gerrard/Navas/??
    D) Williams > Ward
E)Combination of 2 or more of the above?
    F) Do nothing and watch team burn.

Not going to be the best GW but not a true disaster. Fine once Silva is back, WC available at your choosing, don't hit.

I want to use the WC as late as possible to monitor the transfer window. So this team needs to get me through GW20 - 23. Might have to set up a more permanent spot behind the couch!

A single transfer per week will sort that lot out nicely. Soton double clearly a max 4 point return likely for tomorrow but they have solid fixtures afterwards. You are in better shape than you think - just not the most ideal set up for tomorrow really...but you should be fine to take zero hits until GW 23

Have you taken any hits already?

I wouldn't take a hit on your keeper, hardly worth it as Mannone would have to keep a clean sheet to make back the -4. You'll want Silva back for next week and Gerrard/Navas aren't massively appealing this week IMO so I'd bench.

Morrison is the only one I'd consider as his price is falling. But for who though? Not sure any of the options you mentioned will score big this week. Mutch might be good for next week and he rises tonight but can't see him doing anything vs Arsenal.

        Thanks for reply Awesome-0.

No hits taken yet. My free was Jags > Mert.
I agree regards GK's and hits, however on this occasion it is not just this GW but the next 4. Marshall has awful fixtures and Davis isn't much better. Hit may not pay off this week but it will over 4 I think. Right?

If Gerrard was confirmed back i'd do it. Am not all that keen on other prospects for 1 week punt tbh but it is an option.

Be nice to catch the Mutch rise as he is a decent 5th mid going forward, but his fixtures until the WC are awful.
        Not sure what to do...

Dont take a hit for your keeper play Davis, Boruc isnt back to full fitness yet so he should start and i cant see chelsea having it all there own way so atleast 2 pts there which is better than the -2 you're planning

    Mert, Coleman, Terry
    Y. Toure, Walcott, Cabaye, Sterling
    Suarez (c), Rooney, Remy

    Boruc, Oviedo, Burner, Jags

Already used ft to sell Ozil & buy Walcott.

Jags injured, Mert could be rested, Walcott injury cloud, Sterling could be rested although unlikely, Rooney injury cloud, Oviedo looks like he won't play.

    A -12 hit is what I' m thinking.
    Jags out, Ward in
    Rooney out, Welbeck in
    Oviedo out, Hazard in

Is this madness? Will be playing wc in last gw.

Yaya has performed beyond what would be expected based on history. Defenders are roughly a wash, and while I like Ward, you have to pair him up with Cardiff defense as a rotation. Not worth a hit on the whole

Yeah, sorry for delay. My laptop froze up. I think the Clyne/Demel to Ward/Kos looks better to me. Kos and Coleman gives you a core that you can play most every week and rotate in the others. Ward playing OOP and involved in more of the attack, yet also getting the credit for Palace improved Pulis factor defense.

Your team link looks proper now.

No. I think Yaya is too expensive now and Silva is your man going forward. Plus it's not a great week for City anyway as they are a better home side. Clyne to Ward i say yes.

Leagues - not for the second half of the year. might bring them back next season though, it's on the fence right now

New competitions - We can promise you a world cup competition, possibly similar to the one we did for the Euros. still haven't sorted out the details but there will be something!

Other competitions - We plan to bring back the CL and Europa again this year

          no coverage/write-ups at all
and simply not enough attention was paid to them in general

I enjoyed them too but I think it's best we cancel them for the second half of this season and possibly bring them back next year. might need to make some adjustments if we bring them back in order to make them more interested and more talked about

Hull away against the "big" teams.

Chelsea, Arsenal and City put two past them. United scored three (One was an own goal) and Spurs scored only one.

They have dealt with Suarez once this season and their form/morale is probably higher now than it was when the teams last played each other.

Cardiff away against the "big" teams.

Chelsea put four past them and Liverpool three. I would say the morale of the Cardiff squad will be at an all time low after losing Malkay and Kim Jong Tan dictating utter bullish*t from the boardroom.

I am confident Walcott will start... he is getting the armband. (Pours a stiff drink).

All very rational thinking..... But I don't think Liverpool will underestimate Hull FC again. Suarez has scored 88pts in 5 home games and Hull will be very content at their 6-0 demolition of Fulham. Anfield is not a good ground to come to if you're hoping for a win.

Anelka said: “(The) meaning of quenelle: anti-system. I do not know what the word ‘religion’ has to do with this story!

"This is a dedication to Dieudonné. With regard to the ministers who give their own interpretations of my quenelle, they are the ones that create confusion and controversy without knowing what it really means, this gesture.

"I ask people not to be duped by the media. And of course, I am neither racist nor anti-Semitic and I fully assume (stand by) my gesture.”

I have no doubt in my mind that Anelka is being straight up here. He gets a bad rap sometimes, but I think he's a good lad really. And honestly, how stupid would you have to be to make such a gesture with racist intentions? We're taking Di Canio levels of stupidity, and Anelka is far from that

Granville was speaking about Anelka's mate wasn't he? He never claimed that Anelka was racist. So what's the point of an Anelka quote?

What proof is there his friend is racist.

The quote shows the gesture has nothing to do with religion.....so I just asked Granville for his proof for calling his friend racist

*The quote shows the gesture has nothing to do with religion (as far as Anelka knows)....

Find a quote from Anelka's friend saying something similar then, Anelka's quote has nothing to do with his friend's intentions or beliefs.

Surely its the opposite if u claim someone is racist you need tp provide proof & thats wat I asked Granville what his proof is

We can't believe rumors on what ppl think this gesture means

Calling someone racist requires direct proof them stating their racist views

thanks granville for doing the research

the article again doesnt proof the comeidan is racist or the gestire is racist it gives other ppls ppinions on it not his h& they are miss interepating it

aalso the use of bracleted comments in the article is bad and miss leading as the quotes r not cprrect once bracketed comments are inclided
