Steven Gerrard could be set to return for Liverpool’s clash with Hull. Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud are ruled out for Arsenal, while Theo Walcott is amongst a number of players to be assessed. Christian Benteke and Ron Vlaar are back in training for Villa. James Collins and James Tomkins are likely to miss out for West Ham’s trip to Fulham. Martin Demichelis is still sidelined for City, Mauricio Pochettino is still uncertain of Artur Boruc’s comeback date as the Saints welcome Chelsea to St Mary’s:

Mesut Ozil, Olivier Giroud and Kieran Gibbs have all been ruled out of Arsenal’s home game against Cardiff in Arsene Wenger’s early morning press conference. The trio join Aaron Ramsey on the sidelines, while Theo Walcott, Tomas Rosicky, Thomas Vermaelen, Jack Wilshere and Nacho Monreal are all to beassessed today.

Brendan Rodgers has revealed Steven Gerrard is back in training and “will see how he is” for tomorrow’s match with Hull. Joe Allen is sidelined for the Reds, whilst Mamadou Sakho is also likely to miss out as Rodgers awaits scan results on the hamstring injury that forced him out of Sunday’s game at Chelsea.

Christian Benteke and Ron Vlaar are back in training ahead of Villa’s crucial trip to Sunderland. Paul Lambert is optimistic over their availability against the Black Cats and confirmed both “look ok”, though will continue to be assessed over the next 24 hours.

West Ham’s injury woes are showing little sign of abating ahead of a trip to Fulham. James Collins and James Tomkins are almost certainly out of the showdown, whilst further up the pitch, Ravel Morrison is also looking unlikely to travel, according to the club’s official website.

Martin Demichelis remains on the sidelines for City, whilst Stevan Jovetic is also ruled out yet again along with Sergio Aguero and Micah Richards as Manuel Pellegrini’s side roll up to the Liberty. Joe Hart is available despite suffering a facial injury against Palace at the weekend.

Shane Long has returned to training ahead of West Brom’s home clash with Newcastle. The forward is expected to recover from a calf complaint, though Victor Anichebe and Chris Brunt remain doubts – the latter is hoping to train this morning. The Baggies have Nicolas Anelka available for selection as the FA investigate his goal celebration against West Ham last weekend.

Marko Arnautovic is expected to recover from illness in time for Stoke’s home game with Everton. Glenn Whelan and Marc Wilson return from one-match suspensions but Andy Wilkinson is out with a heel problem. For the Toffees, Sylvain Distin is expected to shake off a minor hamstring problem sustained against Southampton last weekend – a relief for Roberto Martinez, with Phil Jagielka already ruled out.

Pablo Osvaldo remains a doubt for Southampton’s home game with Chelsea after picking up a leg knock against Newcastle. Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino has also conceded there “is no definite timeline” as to when Artur Boruc will return from a hand injury.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

I'm getting him next week, assuming he's fit.

      Nasri & sterling --> gerrard & mutch

Need to get rid of sterling as I have 3 Liverpool players

      Alternatively I might sell mignolet

His deep lying role is annoying though... Not sure he'll ever get back to the level of fantasy essential. Butbpens etc. might mean he picks up ampoint or two... Sterling a much better option imho

      My team right now

      Cech (sou)
Terry (sou), Sagna (Car), Coleman (stk)
Barkley, Yaya (swa), Januzaj (Tot), Hazard
      Lukaku, Suarez (hul), Negredo

      Subs: Mutch, Clyne, Williams

1 FT, 2.6m in the bank.

I wanna bring in one of Podolski (dont know whom to take off) or Walcott (cant afford).
How should I go about it? Or is there someone else I could bring on instead of the 2 for the necessary differential.

Fantasy Football Scout Daily Hot Topic

Second half of the season success stories

With wildcards becoming active from tomorrow I thought it would be good to try and predict which players are likely to shine for the second half of the season. These will include those who struggled with injury during the first half of the campaign, or those who look to make a leap from the bench to the first XI and regular starts.

I’ll start off with a few names, feel free to discuss their merits/problems and more importantly add your own.

Robin Van Persie – With transfer values increasing rapidly RVP is arguably affordable for those with a transfer value in excess of 110m. ManU traditionally do better during the second half of the season RVP’s penalties and scoring ability could be invaluable and real differential for those with money to spare. But can he remain injury free from January onwards?

Leighton Baines – Coleman is hogging the limelight, but can Baines outscore his fellow Everton fullback during 2014.

Lucas Podolski – We’ve already seen the impact he can have on a game even from th substitute’s bench. With his international place at stake I have a feeling he will make the most of his appearances and could be a great differential pick up front for 2014.

Roberto Soldado – He’s failed to light up the Premier League so far but under Tim Sherwood the rest of the team has suddenly remembered he is there, up front, looking to score. With assists also in his locker thanks to Adebayor he could be a great pick up front for those backing the newly free scoring Spurs.

With the rise of the expensive mids and forwards, it's going to be a strugggle to get in Baines & RVP alongside Walcott, Hazard, Silva and Ageuro when he returns.

RVP is the one to watch.

If we're looking outside current success stories of Coleman, muthesucker, Hazard etc then I think Newcastle look good, plus I think Chelsea will splash the cash for a striker.

      That will be interesting...

For me the biggest impact of RVP would be leaving United, which I don't think is out of the question at all. That would pretty much nail Welbeck on.

Arthur Boruc- When all SOT players are fit they atr a force on CS
Evra - usually UTD. would be tight at the 2nd half.
Eriksen- he would live up to his hype under a new manager that would know his style of play
Berbatov-when rene became the new manager (ray wilkins asst. Manager now) he came back to life so i expect better now

    Looking at this guys:

    de Gea
    Ward Distin Vlaar
    Walcott Hazard RavMo Silva
    Lukaku Suarez(c) Rooney
    Subs: 4.0, Barkley, Santon, Chester

Going to risk Distin & Vlaar...got Santon to come in if either miss out. Think Rooney & Walcott will make it, they're too valuable to their teams considering the amount of other players that are missing for Utd and Arsenal.

Silva out as my FT, 9.6 to spend. Any recommendations?

      Nice team.

Yup.. definitely.. surely there's no conceivable way for him to get benched now. literally the whole team is a doubt. However, it's only a 1 week fling. With the WC around the corner it is worth the risk though

Yeah that's what I thought too, He has to play now
I'm so tempted to bring him in for one good game tomorrow
But the only option I have is to Swap Rooney for him
Negredo will start so him and Suarez are definite
It is worth the risk, I think

Think he was referencing an article in the Mirror and wrote the word 'Mirror' instead of 'likely'

Flamini or jenkinson. Vermalen and monreal are ill. The could both end up playing.

      flamini

he played there against newcastle. he was also considered unlucky to lose his left back spot to ashley cole in his first stint.

      Rooney plays I reckon.

He had the same injury against Stoke, missed that game then played versus Hull.

Rested against Norwich to ensure he's fit enough to play tomorrow.
