Steven Gerrard could be set to return for Liverpool’s clash with Hull. Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud are ruled out for Arsenal, while Theo Walcott is amongst a number of players to be assessed. Christian Benteke and Ron Vlaar are back in training for Villa. James Collins and James Tomkins are likely to miss out for West Ham’s trip to Fulham. Martin Demichelis is still sidelined for City, Mauricio Pochettino is still uncertain of Artur Boruc’s comeback date as the Saints welcome Chelsea to St Mary’s:

Mesut Ozil, Olivier Giroud and Kieran Gibbs have all been ruled out of Arsenal’s home game against Cardiff in Arsene Wenger’s early morning press conference. The trio join Aaron Ramsey on the sidelines, while Theo Walcott, Tomas Rosicky, Thomas Vermaelen, Jack Wilshere and Nacho Monreal are all to beassessed today.

Brendan Rodgers has revealed Steven Gerrard is back in training and “will see how he is” for tomorrow’s match with Hull. Joe Allen is sidelined for the Reds, whilst Mamadou Sakho is also likely to miss out as Rodgers awaits scan results on the hamstring injury that forced him out of Sunday’s game at Chelsea.

Christian Benteke and Ron Vlaar are back in training ahead of Villa’s crucial trip to Sunderland. Paul Lambert is optimistic over their availability against the Black Cats and confirmed both “look ok”, though will continue to be assessed over the next 24 hours.

West Ham’s injury woes are showing little sign of abating ahead of a trip to Fulham. James Collins and James Tomkins are almost certainly out of the showdown, whilst further up the pitch, Ravel Morrison is also looking unlikely to travel, according to the club’s official website.

Martin Demichelis remains on the sidelines for City, whilst Stevan Jovetic is also ruled out yet again along with Sergio Aguero and Micah Richards as Manuel Pellegrini’s side roll up to the Liberty. Joe Hart is available despite suffering a facial injury against Palace at the weekend.

Shane Long has returned to training ahead of West Brom’s home clash with Newcastle. The forward is expected to recover from a calf complaint, though Victor Anichebe and Chris Brunt remain doubts – the latter is hoping to train this morning. The Baggies have Nicolas Anelka available for selection as the FA investigate his goal celebration against West Ham last weekend.

Marko Arnautovic is expected to recover from illness in time for Stoke’s home game with Everton. Glenn Whelan and Marc Wilson return from one-match suspensions but Andy Wilkinson is out with a heel problem. For the Toffees, Sylvain Distin is expected to shake off a minor hamstring problem sustained against Southampton last weekend – a relief for Roberto Martinez, with Phil Jagielka already ruled out.

Pablo Osvaldo remains a doubt for Southampton’s home game with Chelsea after picking up a leg knock against Newcastle. Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino has also conceded there “is no definite timeline” as to when Artur Boruc will return from a hand injury.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

ok Dzeko out then in the morning. Not risking any Giroud news on other players.
Fer stays as he's fit and have Walcott, Rooney who are doubtful and Silva who is out.
only question now is Negredo or Podolski. safe or punty?

Two ways to look at this, Punty has Pod at home to Cardiff and away to villa, if, he gets 2 games. Great potential rewards

Negredo, slightly safer pick but Swansea and Newcastle away, much tougher games

Defender up to 6.5 (got Mert and Coleman so would probably be Koscielny)

    Or

Midfielder up to 8.1 (got Cabaye so maybe Lallana or Sterling)

    Value any input 🙂

The people who keep saying Hazard is to be rested without any shred of evidence are starting to annoy me.

Hazard has been Chelsea's most creative player this season, and emerged as one of Jose's favoured, secondly Southampton away is a very tough game, Jose will not bench his best player for the sake of it, unless he wants to go further behind in the title race. 11 days rest after this match aswell, i'm 100% certain Hazard will start, simply because Chelsea cannot for him not to, they've tried playing with Mata and Co before and for some reason it doesnt work.

    Rant over.

Stop Ron. Some folks think their logic is greater than the physical limitations of the human body. As if he's a machine. If Yaya took a breather, anyone can take a breather. It's not as if Chelsea are starved of midfield options.

      I personally did

      a) Ravel > Puncheon last night.

I fancied Palace's fixtures slightly more and Puncheon has a bit more of a scoring record in Premier League, but there's not much between them in fairness.

Gonna be piss drunk in a few hours so wont be able to make my transfers before deadline i think.. decided to go for Dzeko to Podolski instead of Burner to Koscielny.. It will give me

    Davis (Marshall)
    Terry Distin GJ Gabbidon (Burner)
    Hazard Wally Cabaye (Redmond Silva)
    Suarez(c) Rooney Podolski(vc)

so should i go ahead and do it leaving me all set? not too risky right?

Injury issues: Ravel Silva Walcott Distin
        Fixture issues: Williams Burner
        Rest issues: Mertesacker

Thinking of Williams out to Kosc, I can get by if 2 of Walcott/Ravel/Distin play.

I think Ravel will play. Owner myself.

Feck it, I'm playing Burner with this depleted ARS squad and backline.

I doubt Merts will be rested with their issues at the back now. Jenkinson will probably start so I'm holding off of ARS defender for this GW.

Hate having to make fast decisions but I'm leaving for New Year's in a couple of hours and unlikely to have net access tomorrow morning. Any thoughts?

    CURRENT TEAM:

    Szczesny
    Baker Coleman Evra
    Januzaj Bannan Oscar Walcott
    Rooney Negredo Suarez

    Subs: Foster RavMo Clyne Chester

Leaving aside the "doubts" surrounding Rooney and Walcott, the area that clearly needs most strengthening is defence. Thoughts on:

    A) Bannan > Ward
    B) Clyne > Koscielny
    C) Save transfer

How would we do if we picked a team that we actually liked?

Put it this way, ignoring your team-orientated dogma, if you picked a team based on the fact that you liked the manager or the players themselves , or the way they play, what would it look like, and how many points would you have?

From my perspective I've pencilled the team as follows:

For goalkeepers we're cool. Szczesny and Howard are in the top two and both popular personalities.

For defenders, Coleman is completely inoffensive but Mert, Terry and Evra all have their detractors. But we can pick up Walker, Caulker and Lovren with doubling up on Everton, Spurs or Southampton.

For mids the top five come off in all their neutrality bar Yaya, Hazard (ball boys exempted), Ramsey, Yaya, Ozil and Lallana. I leave Yaya here because the 'hatred' for him on this site is based on an irrational gaming basis, not affecting the great man himself.

Forwards are where the problems are. We can't pick Suarez because regardless of his changed persona, ultimately he's a very unpleasant person ethically. Same goes for Rooney even though he's a fantastic player in my opinion. So that leaves us with a front line of Aguero, Lukaku and Giroud.

So I opt for a 3-5-2 formation. My ethical team for 2013-2014 on a week-by-week basis is:

    Szczesny

    Coleman - Caulker - Lovren

    Hazard - Ramsey - Yaya - Ozil - Lallana

    Aguero - Lukaku

As for points, with Suarez and Rooney and with the mids only beginning to contribute significantly in the last few weeks, you'll never be in a position to finish in the top 1000. But at least you're concious would be clear.

So this GW is shaping up quite nicely to be one for clawing back on the casuals. With injuries to key players and restings possible those with strong squads should be quietly licking their lips at the possibilities. There will be a few New Years hangovers tomorrow for sure.

Podolski is not match fit, hence why he got no minutes v Newcastle. I can't see him starting, it'll be Bendtner up top with Cazorla just in behind, then Wilshere left mid, Walcott right mid with Flamini and Arteta in the middle.

    Just a gentle warning 🙂
