Seamus Coleman limps out of Everton’s draw at West Brom with a hamstring problem. Kevin Mirallas scores in successive league games for the first time this term, Romelu Lukaku scrambles another lucky assist but fails to net once again, whilst Pepe Mel rolls out a 4-4-2 and picks up a point in his first match in charge of the Baggies:

Coleman Concern for Toffees
Roberto Martinez and Fantasy managers alike will be eagerly awaiting injury news after the right-back was withdrawn late on at the Hawthorns due to a hamstring problem. Prior to last night’s match at the Hawthorns, Coleman had played every minute of the season – the top scoring defender in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, he is also the most popular backline option and currently resides in 46% of sides, with Per Mertesacker in second, with an ownership of 30% by comparison. Post-match, Martinez confirmed:

“Seamus felt his hamstring a little bit. We are going to assess him. We are going to be cautious and see what the problem is but it’s not a good sign because Seamus would never want to come off the football pitch. He has been in a terrific moment of form so we will try to get him back on as quick as we can.”

Coleman will now be assessed and, with the Merseyside derby only a week away, will be desperate to retain the Republic of International in his starting line-up. If Coleman is ruled out for the short-term, however, his early adopters face a real dilemma – many acquired him at 5.0 at the start of the season and will be reluctant to sell, given that the current price to purchase has now risen to 6.8.

Mirallas the Toffees Goal Hero
Having found the net in the Toffees’ previous league encounter at home to Norwich, the Belgian was amongst the goals once again last night – the first time this term he has scored in back-to-back Gameweeks. Prior to his visit to the Hawthorns, Mirallas had produced just one assist in 10 away appearances, with almost all of his attacking returns arriving at Goodison – for all the undoubted frustration his acquisition brings, the 7.2-priced midfielder has now racked up five goals and four assists for Roberto Martinez’ team. Amongst midfielders, that brings him into ninth spot in the FPL standings – more than City duo David Silva and Jesus Navas, for example. Whilst his role on the right may be under threat from new boy Aiden McGeady, Mirallas’ eye for goal is still looking crucial for the Merseysiders. He has notched three times over the last seven Gameweeks – a tally matched only by Ross Barkley in the Everton midfield over the course of the entire season.

Lukaku Scoring Woes Continue
Whilst Mirallas’ conversion rate picks up, his compatriot failed to find the net once again. Lukaku’s owners were treated to another somewhat fortuitous assist but his lack of cutting edge in the box shows little sign of improving – last night’s blank means he has scored just once in nine league encounters. In a Gameweek where a number of similarly-priced forwards staked a claim for the coveted third forward slot with impressive displays, Lukaku’s performance may well be the final straw for many Fantasy owners. At present, he is still the second most popular forward in the FPL game but, with the Gameweek 23 deadline a week away and winter wildcards being wielded at pace, he looks set to be sacrificed by many.

Mel Scrapes a Debut Draw
With all of their players owned by less than 3% of FPL managers, the main impact of West Brom’s equaliser – courtesy of stand-in centre-half Diego Lugano – was denying their visitors a tenth clean sheet of the season. As we look for signs of new manager Pepe Mel’s impact and tactical preference, it was intriguing to see the Baggies line up in a 4-4-2 formation, with Nicolas Anelka partnered by Matej Vydra up front – those eyeing up budget option Saido Berahino will be disappointed that the youngster was only utilised as a late sub. Elsewhere, Steven Reid was preferred to Billy Jones at right-back, whilst Mel also handed Chris Brunt and Zoltan Gera the wide roles – Stephane Sessegnon and Morgan Amalfitano continue to look peripheral figures in the Baggies’ set-up and currently look unlikely to benefit from the change of manager.

Quite surprised by the rate of transfers given that everyone has a wildcard to use. Would it suggest that the 'casuals' already used their's in the first week of jan, or are waiting for next week...or simply don't know that they get a free Jan wildcard (Hope its the latter 😀 )

Judging from most of the people I know who play (small sample size) most of them are happy with their teams and are 'saving it for all the transfers' and some don't realise that there is a January wildcard.

I think we'll get maybe a total of around a mill or one a half mill who use their Jan WC, many teams are already inactive and some are unaware of the January WC. I'm guessing those that are WC-ing this GW have already pushed the button and transfer activity will be very relaxed until deadline barring any significant injury updates.

    A. Baines and Ramsey
    B. Azpi and Cazorla

Ramsey not fit and uncertainties regarding his gametime against southampton, but I can play a defender or noone in case he is not fully ready. What do you think is the best choice?,.

    a) Sturridge + Cabaye

I know A seems like the popular choice
Bony though is a good 3 week punt (vs worst D Fulham, defenseless West Ham and bottom of the league Cardiff)
and getting Silva allows me the flexibility to drop either him or Cazorla later on if I need to

If you've completely screwed up your WC, it is better to:

    1) change it by 1FT per week and limp along with crappy players.

    2) take a -16 hit, have one shite week then shoot up the ranks

True. I'm not saying -4 all day every day, but more like -8 at once (if you think need be that is) and look how things pan out. Maybe you'll 'need' only a -4 the other GW and sail in smooth water again.

There's no guarantee that your -16 will work out is all I'm sayin' I guess...that said, your team isn't that fecked. If it's the one you posted last page. (I would keep Navas for 1-2 games still though..)

Neither. Good case for a well judged 4 pointer or possibly a -8. Pick wisely though and a 4 pointer can bring you in 2 good players that will give you a good chance to get decent points for the gwk and the future.

With Saints and Uniteds kind upcoming fixtures and New/Villa def rotation is this team crazily stupid? If RVP was declared fit? I could make it look better at the back obviously just fooling around. Have a proper WC team almost set in stone.

It's not a bad punt to go for this slightly more expensive New/Villa rotation, and if you can afford RVP you could just as well afford that rotation with 2 big team defenders and still have a strong attack, if you just steered clear of the hapless United.

Meanwhile, it is true that had he hit the inner side of the post resulting in a goal, or had Podolski finished that chance, we would not be saying that he was crap against Fulham. He wasn't, it's just that he didn't get goals or assists. To those who think he has looked lazy or disinterested, he always looks like that. That's his stile, looks like he is doing nothing, and then, suddenly, he opens the whole defence and a goal happens.

Of course, Ozil has been awful against Villa and Fulham and people are massively selling.
Southampton is a good team and Ozil is playing away. Another blank coming up for sure.
Then Crystal Palace will park the bus at the Emirates, so I can't see Ozil bringing home the points in the next 2.

I also noticed some league leaders owning Cabaye so if he has another haul against Norwich I am going to loose ground.
Now my next move is Navas to Yaya or Coleman to Cahil...

He is not going to PSG, I am pretty confident about that. Even Thiago Silva and Zlatan are not enthusiastic about that move, they think it is not a big enough name. Plus, Cabella will move in the summer to Newcastle so Padrew won't be selling Cabaye unless he gets Cabella IMO.

Or should you put an interrogation point in the end? As referring to the very unconfirmed rumour.

Meanwhile, it is clear that the current midfield with Motta-Matuidi-Verratti works great. Cabaye is better than any of them, though.

But even the rumoured point is not "not big enough name" just the opposite: they don't want him to reduce anyone of their current team mates on midfield to bench. But you always hear these "Zlatan says this and that" and this sounds just like that journalists have been thinking about who would be dropped to bench and then coming up with "Zlatan doesn't want his friends to be dropped to bench so he blocks Cabaye transfer". People were full of this already when Cavani joined, but I don't think either Zlatan or Silva really gets involved like that.

Looks like I'm going to have to sell Lukaku for Ade then. Really hoped he would score last night! Would mean two Spurs players which is too much for me so Eriksen may have to go for an Arsenal mid. Either that or get Giroud but not sure I trust him??

      Wilshere/Ramsey + Ade

      or

      Erisken + Giroud??

      Morning Lads 😀

      Hazard (c) this week anyone?

Was gonna offload Ozil this week but Coleman's injury will likely force a change in defence on me instead as my alternatives are Clyne (ars) or Burner (mnu) but then I got to take a -4 right before wc 🙁

Yes. The risk is obvious though: Suarez at home, Hazard a midfielder. But I may be going for it.

      would you rather have

      a) Kos and a Chelsea defender every week

      b) Kos and Villa/Newcastle rotation

      c) JT and Villa/Newcastle rotation

      This all depends on Coleman

We've rightly ballsed up our CL hopes with that result against Villa. That cushion over Spurs, Everton & Utd was key I think going into the next few weeks with fixtures the way they are. I think we might have blown it.

Obviously I hope that's not Brendan's motivational poster in the dressing room and I'm proved wrong.
