Seamus Coleman limps out of Everton’s draw at West Brom with a hamstring problem. Kevin Mirallas scores in successive league games for the first time this term, Romelu Lukaku scrambles another lucky assist but fails to net once again, whilst Pepe Mel rolls out a 4-4-2 and picks up a point in his first match in charge of the Baggies:

Coleman Concern for Toffees
Roberto Martinez and Fantasy managers alike will be eagerly awaiting injury news after the right-back was withdrawn late on at the Hawthorns due to a hamstring problem. Prior to last night’s match at the Hawthorns, Coleman had played every minute of the season – the top scoring defender in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, he is also the most popular backline option and currently resides in 46% of sides, with Per Mertesacker in second, with an ownership of 30% by comparison. Post-match, Martinez confirmed:

“Seamus felt his hamstring a little bit. We are going to assess him. We are going to be cautious and see what the problem is but it’s not a good sign because Seamus would never want to come off the football pitch. He has been in a terrific moment of form so we will try to get him back on as quick as we can.”

Coleman will now be assessed and, with the Merseyside derby only a week away, will be desperate to retain the Republic of International in his starting line-up. If Coleman is ruled out for the short-term, however, his early adopters face a real dilemma – many acquired him at 5.0 at the start of the season and will be reluctant to sell, given that the current price to purchase has now risen to 6.8.

Mirallas the Toffees Goal Hero
Having found the net in the Toffees’ previous league encounter at home to Norwich, the Belgian was amongst the goals once again last night – the first time this term he has scored in back-to-back Gameweeks. Prior to his visit to the Hawthorns, Mirallas had produced just one assist in 10 away appearances, with almost all of his attacking returns arriving at Goodison – for all the undoubted frustration his acquisition brings, the 7.2-priced midfielder has now racked up five goals and four assists for Roberto Martinez’ team. Amongst midfielders, that brings him into ninth spot in the FPL standings – more than City duo David Silva and Jesus Navas, for example. Whilst his role on the right may be under threat from new boy Aiden McGeady, Mirallas’ eye for goal is still looking crucial for the Merseysiders. He has notched three times over the last seven Gameweeks – a tally matched only by Ross Barkley in the Everton midfield over the course of the entire season.

Lukaku Scoring Woes Continue
Whilst Mirallas’ conversion rate picks up, his compatriot failed to find the net once again. Lukaku’s owners were treated to another somewhat fortuitous assist but his lack of cutting edge in the box shows little sign of improving – last night’s blank means he has scored just once in nine league encounters. In a Gameweek where a number of similarly-priced forwards staked a claim for the coveted third forward slot with impressive displays, Lukaku’s performance may well be the final straw for many Fantasy owners. At present, he is still the second most popular forward in the FPL game but, with the Gameweek 23 deadline a week away and winter wildcards being wielded at pace, he looks set to be sacrificed by many.

Mel Scrapes a Debut Draw
With all of their players owned by less than 3% of FPL managers, the main impact of West Brom’s equaliser – courtesy of stand-in centre-half Diego Lugano – was denying their visitors a tenth clean sheet of the season. As we look for signs of new manager Pepe Mel’s impact and tactical preference, it was intriguing to see the Baggies line up in a 4-4-2 formation, with Nicolas Anelka partnered by Matej Vydra up front – those eyeing up budget option Saido Berahino will be disappointed that the youngster was only utilised as a late sub. Elsewhere, Steven Reid was preferred to Billy Jones at right-back, whilst Mel also handed Chris Brunt and Zoltan Gera the wide roles – Stephane Sessegnon and Morgan Amalfitano continue to look peripheral figures in the Baggies’ set-up and currently look unlikely to benefit from the change of manager.

I know its a way off, but does anyone know if there will be much coverage of the World Cup on here from a FF point of view? E.g. articles / watchlist / ticker or supporting a particular World Cup Fantasy game? Think the last WC was before my time on here.

Really? I sometimes think FPL ruins watching football, because instead of watching and enjoying it, or even just analysing, you're hoping for strange things like "please, a Cahill goal with Willian assist and then sub off at 61 minutes and Terry own goal + Hazard missed penalty, never mind the result."

Or realize that you are wishing for the opponent to score loads against the club you support because you have captained their no. 1 striker.

I would recommend to make the transfers today, taking the hit and keeping the WC as planned.

if you need to do more transfers due to injuries until the gameweek starts, you can still play the wildcard and this would erase the -4.

Apparently they have developed a Spanish clique so the non-Spaniards are annoyed. Chico and Monk apparently had a bust up in which Chico almost hit Monk with a brick. They have a lot of injuries and a struggling to cope with the demands of Europa on top of everything else.

I owned Ashley Williams earlier in the season, he was terrible

      A) 3 Awful, 1 average, 2 good = 12 points
      B) 2 Awful, 2 average, 2 good = 14 points
      C) 3 Awful, 0 average, 3 good = 15 points
      D) 2 Awful, 2 average, 2 good = 14 points
      E) 3 Awful, 2 average, 1 good = 9 points
      F) 2 Awful, 1 average, 3 good = 16 points
      G) 2 Awful, 0 average, 4 good = 20 points

Judging from my basic fixture analysis Swansea defenders have the best chance.
Unfortunately Swansea, WBA and Palace all seem to have good fixtures and bad fixtures on the same weeks.

Villa did well against Arsenal and Pool despite shipping goals..good pick
Cardiff are a disaster for shots conceded..it will catch up with them
      Palace..top pick
      Hull..see Cardiff
WBA..who knows which way things will go
Sunderland.. are just as average as it gets
      Swansea..just a disaterous midfield situation..who knows.

      so Villa and Palace..

WBA could go either way..depends on the new manager, who he picks, how he plays, it's surely a bit of a guessing game right now...You're right to be wary with Villa, it's a definite shot in the dark but they looked good last weekend again and kept Liverpool down to only a few chances by their standards...same with Arsenal the week before.

First let's eliminate SUN who concede 18 shots per game & play New, Mci, & Ars their next 6.

After that, CPL has to fall by the wayside as they face Ars, Eve, & Mun in their next 6.

WBA while a sneaky good defensive side, are also out b/c they've got Liv & Che at home so I'd pass.

CAR have 3 great home games in Nor, Avl & Hul but, until they start showing any defensive resolve I'll pass. (Only Fulham give up more shots per game)

So this leaves us with AVL, HUL & SWA...
Judging by their fixtures I would say rank them:

      1. AVL - WBA, eve, WHM, car, new, NOR
-Easy home games & they've been playing great away from Villa Park

      2. SWA- FUL, whm, CAR, sto, liv, CPL
      - Probably the best schedule of the lot but, injuries & the Europa League have wrecked havoc on the Swans this year

      3. HUL- cpl, TOT, sun, SOT, car, NEW
      - Great run of away fixtures too "if" you can stomach playing your cheapies away from home

Well, HUL have the "hard one's at home & the easy one's away" so we can probably expect a bit more of that but, for Chester's price* you'd be hard pressed to find better value in the game.

*Hamstring or not, I bought him at 3.8mil so he'll stay in my side even after the Jan. WC.

Why do you count cheap defedners out on basis of away fixtures, when you don't have to play them each round?

Sunderland has tremendous home fixtures, and in the last six matches combined it has conceded only one more shot inside the box than Swans, and only five more than Hull. Not a great difference. Meanwhile Hull has kept precisely zero away clean sheets and in these last 6 GW's Swans have nevertheless conceded twice as much as Sunderland, keeping zero cs against Sunderland's two.

Sir, the question was the rank these defences on the whole not their ability to rotate or the relative strength of their home fixtures.

If it was I'd still pass on Sunderland though, as clean sheets in the short term are a very poor measure of how well a team is preforming as it's very easy to get "lucky" over a 2 or 3 match span.

So, I was focusing on the season as a whole which I feel is a better representation of each team's defensive performance.

If you disagree with my analysis, then I wish you well with your Sunderland defenders sir & bid you good day.

Swansea havent looked like keeping a cleanie lately. Wouldnt expect more than a couple of cleanies even from those nice fixtures, 3 if you're v lucky indeed. Personally id rule out.
Cardiff are even less likely, expect nothing.
Hull are best at home (have only kept cleanies at home) but their remaining home fixtures are not so hot. Maybe one cleanie.
Palace are decent under Pulis. Might keep a couple.
WBA, seem a bit lacklustre but have got Foster back now. Fixtures a bit meh.
Sunderland are a bit better, 3 decent home fixtures. Wouldnt expect more than 2 though
Villa with Vlaar back seem to be a bit better at the back recently. Might be the pick for my money.

I often do both for pages after a new page arrives, that way I never miss sticky comment info or a great gag. Sad but true 🙂

Well if I see let's say the checkered Gravatar of Forca, then I stop all work immediately, inform the secretary to hold my calls, put an "out of office" on my emails and spend an hour reading all his Cretin nuggets.

If you've had Coleman any length of time, it seems crazy to give him no more than 1 gw to recover. After Villa at home, he has Chelsea away! Surely he should be allowed at least until the following week - Palace at home.

I am still not 100% on this team, but feels like I am making some progress.

If you're bored at work, chowing on your lunch and have five minutes - please could you give me your thoughts:

    mcgregor, speroni
    koscielny, kolarov, davies, vlaar, brown
hazard, yaya toure, eriksen, lallana, mutch
    suarez, aguero, bony

    Thanks,

    Thomas

Liverpool apparently in talks with Sazburgs Valon Berisha. 20 year old big talent who plays midfield.

Berisha's not a big talent really and this would be a puzzling signing for Liverpool.

He was OK last season, but has not recovered fully after an injury and currently can't get into the Salzburg side in his normal position.

    Mannone
    Coleman* Ward Kos
    Hazard Yaya Lallana Cabaye
    Suarez Aguero Lukaku

    Marshall Mutch Chester* Burner

2.9 in the bank and 0 FT.

If Coleman and Chester wont play next GW,
    A. Just play Burner
    B. Take a hit for someone. Chester -> Ivanovic/Azpi ?

Right... need to raise some cash for Aguero.

    Should I...

    A) Neg + Giroud --> Aguero + Ade

    B) Negredo + Kolarov --> Aguero + 4.8 defender
