With Gameweek 23 done and dusted itโ€™s time to reassess our Sky teams using the usual info, including the Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, the bonus point beneficiaries and the current market trends. As always, we also look ahead to the forthcoming fixtures, offering our preferred captain setup for Gameweek 24 and keeping one eye on Gameweek 25.

Gameweek 23 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below is a match-by-match breakdown of the players twho won the plaudits from the Sky Sports reporters last time out, earning five additional points for the Man-of-the-Match award.

FixtureMoTM
Sunderland vs SouthamptonJack Cork
Arsenal vs FulhamSanti Cazorla
Crystal Palace vs StokeYannick Bolasie
Man City vs CardiffYaya Toure
Norwich vs HullRobert Snodgrass
West Ham vs NewcastleYohan Cabaye
Liverpool vs Aston VillaRon Vlaar
Swansea vs TottenhamEmmanuel Adebayor
Chelsea vs Man UnitedSamuel Etoโ€™o
West Brom vs EvertonKevin Mirallas

The awards this week were unsurprisingly once again mostly attributed to midfielders, with seven in total claiming the MoTM award. The others were awarded to two forwards and one defender. Yaya Toure picked up his fourth of the season and now sits top of the midfield rankings overall with 156 points. Eden Hazard, who sits in second place overall with 149 points, has the most MoTM awards, with eight to his name.

Gameweek 23 Bonus Points

Five goalkeepers managed five saves or more โ€“ Tim Howard, Jack Butland, Adrian, David Marshall and Vito Mannone were the top shot-stoppers. Mannone produced seven saves which was the largest number for the week and has now joined four other goalkeepers at the top of the bonus point table, who are all sat on an additional ten points.

In defence, a total of 11 players gathered bonus, six for tackles and five for passes completed โ€“ Angel Rangel, Ashley Williams, Chico and Jordi Amat, all of Swansea, managed to gather bonus points for passing as their style of football continues to be favoured by the bonus system. Full-back Joel Ward has now been joined by centre-back Chico as the top defenders for bonus โ€“ both have 18 additional points.

In midfield, 17 players earned bonus points โ€“ five for tackling and 12 for passing. Fulham centre-midfielder Scott Parker was the closest to achieving both as he missed out by just one tackle. Newcastle midfield enforcer Cheick Tiote is the bonus point darling, with his 32 additional points putting him top of the overall standings.

A reminder that Fantasy Football Scout Members can access all the data regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

NameTeamValue% of Managers
NegredoMan City8.65.56%
RamseyArsenal5.85.44%
LovrenSouthampton5.25.41%
BarkleyEverton4.35.18%
NasriMan City6.34.17%

Once again, injuries are the main reason for this weekโ€™s top five for transfers out. Lovren, Barkley and Nasri remain sidelined, though Ramsey is back for Arsenal’s trip to Southampton. Negredo is looking to recover from the shoulder injury sustained at West Ham last midweek, though his departure from Fantasy teams is no doubt also affected by Sergio Agueroโ€™s return to action.

Top Transfers In

NameTeamValue% of Managers
AgueroMan City9.86.91%
JanuzajMan United4.24.66%
CabayeNewcastle6.64.02%
HazardChelsea8.83.77%
LallanaSouthampton5.93.70%

As mentioned, Agueroโ€™s immediate return to scoring form has Fantasy managers rushing to acquire his services โ€“ a scenario weโ€™ve already seen in the FPL game. Cabaye and Lallanaโ€™s mid-price consistency is making a persuasive case for many, whilst Januzajโ€™s recent run of starts for United has heightened the youngsterโ€™s budget appeal.

Gameweek 24 Proposed Captain Strategy

Looking ahead to the captaincy choices for Gameweek 24 we will have to settle for just two captains as there is no Monday night game this week.

Our Strategy:
Luis Suarez (Everton at Home) โ†’ Emmanuel Adebayor (Man City at Home)

It looks like Luis Suarez will be the popular choice again on Tuesday 28 as his form at Anfield suggests he will return big once more โ€“ for those looking for a slight differential, Wayne Rooney looks a great alternative option at home to Cardiff if he gets the nod to start.

For the matches played on Wednesday 29, we opt for a captain change to Tottenhamโ€™s Emmanuel Adebayor โ€“ whilst most would argue Chelseaโ€™s Eden Hazard is a better choice as he plays at home to West Ham a quick glance at Gameweek 25 shows that Adebayor plays on Saturday February 1 away to Hull whilst Hazard doesnโ€™t feature until Monday 3 when the Blues make their way to Man City.

Of course if you have a surplus of transfers you could still go for Hazard vs West Ham and prepare for Gameweek 25 by using a transfer in order to maximize your captains.

Didn't realise Negredo was falling again last night, in that case worth it just to save the FT and see how United situation develops?

    Mannone
Ward - Koscielny - Vlaar (Coleman*, Bruce)
    Hazard - Ozil - Puncheon - Sterling - Ki
    Aguero - Suarez (Negredo*)

Cabaye and Ozil to Ramsey and Mata for a hit (if both are starting) looks to be the key dullardinho move for me. Lots of ifs and buts though.

    boruc davis
    coleman kosc williamson ward bruce
    hazard mata navas cabaye noone
    suarez aguero adebayor

    0,0 in the bank!

    now i have two plans

    b) cabaye + ade --> eriksen + bony

Fantasy Football School Daily Hot Topic

It’s another early line ups Hot Topic. Given that the line ups come out at 6:45pm here and 5:45am in Sydney, Australia and 1:45pm in New York we are either in for an early wake up, frantic lunch break or perhaps having to excuse ourselves from an important meeting while we quickly transfer Ramsey in. Or worse still, does 6:45am fall during your own deadzone time in the wee small hours?

What time will it be at 6:45pm GMT for you? Where will you be? How difficult will it be to make last minute changes.

For me 6:45pm falls right in the middle of my youngest son's going to bed time. Looks like there may be some pauses in between Gruffalo pages, while I check on the teamsheets. ๐Ÿ˜‰

That's probably a good quiet time to do it. Mine falls in my most hectic part of the day - feeding, bathing, reading to kids. I'm hoping to persuade them to watch Scooby Doo for half an hour while I pop off to study the team sheets. Should be an easy sell to them as Scooby doo is brilliant.

    Hi All,

    This is my WC team:

    Boruc, Kelvin Davis
    Koscielny, Debuchy, Reid, Bardsley, Yoshida
Yaya Touré, Hazard, Mata, Puncheon, Noone
    Suárez, Agüero, Giroud

    ITB: 0.7M

I am relying on some rotation at the back, so haven't decided what to do with the cash. I really need Yoshida to be nailed on, failing that may have to downgrade Reid to Demel and upgrade Yoshida to shaw (0.1M short on Shaw + Reid).

If Yoshida is going to assume responsibilies whilst Lovren is out, then I have some short-term options for the spare cash:

    - Giroud --> Sturridge
    - Giroud --> Bony + Puncheon --> AJ

Hazard + Reid. Is it possible to downgrade evans to a hull/cardiff defender and then get Coleman with that money? Dont really trust Manu defending atm

can only get Hazard and Coleman if I get two 3.9 defenders + Ward, which doesn't look good

I'm seriously considering benching Lallana to go all-in on Arsenal. Which two would you bench out of this lot?

    A Lallana (ARS)
    B Ramsey (sot)
    C Ozil (sot)
    D Sterling (EVE)
    E Koscielny (sot)
    F Ward (HUL)

Currently benching E and B/D depending on who starts

    Chances of starting tonight?

    I reckon

Mata 100% ( why wouldn't he? We don't exactly have the luxury of easing him in)

    Ramsey 60% ( 99% if Wilshere is out )

Is it crazy to go Mannone and Adrian as the keeper pairing? Good rotation between them and gives the opportunity to spend elsewhere.

Does anyone have ideas on whether the following players are nailed on?
    - bruce from hull...tempting price but worried rosenier might line up at the back
    - adrien.....has jjk got the boot? never heard of this kid before
    - collins....who are west ham's preferred centre pairing? reid + tomkins/collins?
    - noone....looked good against city but cardiff bringing lots of new players. any other cheapies that are nailed on? puncheon?

Anyone else considering waiting on Ramsey? Last time Arsenal had a tough run of fixtures (in league and CL) was immediately before his injury, where he produced one assist in four games (I believe).

    RMWCT if you please

    mannone (marshall)
    kosc evans mariappa (bruce chambers)
    Hazard Yaya Mata Johnson (Noone)
    Roo Suarez Kun

    0.0

plan on rotating noone+Marshall with johnson+Mannone every week

One other appetising option and question I most humbly ask y'all:

Johnson to Ki + Evans to vlaar gives me:
    roo to RVP

Talking of lineups, how would people on a WC react to seeing RVP in the Man U lineup against Cardiff? As I'm chasing, an RVP (c) punt would be very tempting. Obvious concern is that it completely changes the balance of my WC team.

Yep. I havent worked out exactly how I'd do it, and more likely than not I'll just have Mata. But chasing 60 points down, and I know noone else in my league will have him. If I still had my other WC, I'd do it for these 3 fixtures, then WC again before GW 28.

      see above
      i'm tempted
Remember Moyes was pretty pissed at rvp for NOT playing last couple games coz rvp thought he wasn't ready against the opinion of the manu medical team (i think I read that somewhere)
RVP should be pretty primed to play I think
Less risk of him playing deep like rooney

Yeah. Its definitely one for chasers only to consider. But the next 3 fixtures are all pretty plum, and if you never take any risks, you just accept defeat.

    Gabbidon Kolarov Kosc (Coleman*, Chester*)

    Silva Lallana Januzaj Hazard (Eriksen)

    Aguero Suarez Giroud

Transfer im thinking of doing is Kosc ---> Azpi (Would have done it already but Chels have city next and Kosc will net me 0.1 when he rises tonight)

Or should I replace Chester as i may well need a full bench down the line when DGW come into play?

Am I crazy to consider getting Adam Johnson over Ramsey?

It's only for a one week punt, I'll be wildcarding next week and I'll probably do Johnson --> Ramsey on my wildcard. I just think Adam Johnson has a greater chance of outscoring Ramsey this week, does anyone else agree?
