    Best FPL option under 6.4?

    A. Zaha
    B. Shelvey
    C. Barkley
    D. Ben Arfa
    E. Snodgrass

    Nothing electrifying, but humour me.
    Thanks.

Hits for defenders - insane or inspired?

The majority here will advise against taking hits for defenders, but is that really a rule we need to go by? Last season I took a hit to get Joey O'Brien in for West Ham's home game against Norwich, taking out an injured defender. I woke up and saw West Ham won 2-1... and O'Brien scored one and was substituted just before Norwich's goal! That 15 point haul has somewhat clouded my judgement of whether taking hits for defenders really is stupid.

What do you think? Is it better to play with 10 men instead of taking a hit for a defender? Is it really that stupid to take a hit to get rid of a defender with terrible fixtures for a defender with excellent fixtures, for the small price of 4 points? Does anyone else have any success stories from getting defenders in for a hit?

I generally keep to that rule but sometimes it has backfired. Like this GW! I should have got Ward over Parr and hit the WC button. C'est La vie.

i did the same thing last season! also had davies in for a hit and he either scored that week or the week after. Just this week brought evans for a hit because i only had 2 defenders fit.

I got Davies in the week he scored too 🙂 well done on the Evans choice, I'd always take a hit to get someone in if I only had 2 fit defenders.

Theres a difference between a hit a for defender when you only have 2 playing and when your just don't wanna one with with bad fixtures. The points ev differs vastly between the 2. Your gl with OB is just luck and shouldn't be used as an example in decisions of logic

this season i'll try to avoid taking hits for defender..in case any of my defender injured/not playing, i'll just let my subs come off the bench..

Yeah the point about having injured defenders is when you have 3+ injured defenders which means you'd basically be playing with less than 11 men for that GW. In this situation some people are still adverse to taking hits but I don't really mind as the worst possible scenario is a net loss of a couple of points.

in my case, i took hit for terry -> evans in gw 17, and he only got 2pt for the next 2 games, though he scored 9pt in gw 20 (1-0 win away at norwich), then another 1 pt in gw 21..as i get him for -4, so total point from evans is 14-4 = 10

on the other hand, terry has 3 cs + 1 baps in the next 4 games after i get rid him (total: 19pt)

though to be fair, i got extra fund to upgrade brady -> walcott 😀

yep, points from walcott really helps me climb the ranks during that time..and this season i learned that it is important to have good bench in case any of your players are injured & you're reluctant to take hits..back in gw 19, rooney was injured, and i don't want to take hits to remove him, somehow rosenior came off the bench, double hull defender with chester (6-0 fulham)..another example of good bench is in gw 21, ki come off the bench for rooney again (12 points, 4-1 fulham again) 😆

Cabaye leaving left me with 9 playing today. I took an 8 point hit for Mata and Ward and came out 6 points ahead. It doesn't always work but to me, when you have an open position I think you fill it with a hit. Even if they only get 2 points then the hit only cost you 2. Kind of a 50% off on hits, if you will.

Great minds Innsie, great minds! Ha! Really, this season when I've taken multiple hits I've done wel,l or at least came out ahead. You shouldn't be afraid to use hits wisely. I kind of cringe when I read posts on here saying "you should never do this" or "always do that".

I think I'm holding Coleman. Have had him since week 1 so my sell price is probably about 5.8. Everton have a couple of tough fixtures in the next 4 game weeks but after that their run in is golden and I don't see too many other teams out there who look like must have right now; maybe a Chelsea player but their fixture list is tough too. Was looking at Spurs def. and their Europa ties throw a spanner in those works. Dawson may be worth holding onto though. I was looking at Chiriches

I realize Sturridge is quality but I just don't care for the way he acts. Gerrard graciously gives him the penalty and he blows it. He hogs the ball and gives it away, missing a wide open Suarez, and then refuses to shake his managers hand. If I were Rodgers,I'dmake him train with the kids the rest of the week and not include him in the team this weekend.

I personally disagree with the people who say it's too much Liverpool having Sturridge and Suarez. If Sturridge is scoring more points than other strikers, surely it's better to have him than someone not doing as well, irrespective of having Suarez too? I think the SAS frontline is really good, although JRod's doing the business as my 3rd striker atm.

I agree. I think you basically have to look at one position, look at the options for that position, and choose the one who'll get you the points. For me it's Sturridge Vs Giroud/Adebayor, and it feels like a no brainer.

I think that Sturridge will apologize. He's a pretty good character. I think the emotions of the derby just got to him. He was a bit selfish today but I don't blame him for wanting a hattrick in one of the biggest games of the year. Rodgers also has a pretty good relationship with the players so I'm sure he'll restore order in the camp.

Sturridge was clearly upset at being replaced, but insisted after the match that he was annoyed at his own performance rather than his withdrawal, and Rodgers says that it was much ado about nothing.

“He was just still frustrated after the penalty," the Irishman explained. "He apologised to the group.

"You shouldn't disrespect anyone, in particular the supporters and your team-mates. But he hasn’t done that, he was just frustrated and was desperate to get on the scoresheet again.”

Looking at my team,I could get RVP by replacing Yaya with Shelvey and Llana with Puncheon. That would give me:

    Boruc/Mannone
    Baker/Coleman/Azpi/Kosh/Ward
    Shelvey/Mata/Oscar/Barkley/Puncheon
    Aguero/Suarez/RVP

Worth doing that over the next couple of weeks or is it too top heavy? Provided RVP looks like he's getting his form back.

Swansea have very nice fixtures coming up. I'm trying to figure out who to bring in for them but usually end at Shelvey. Don't want to change my forwards now but I wouldn't mind a Swan in my team somewhere. If I owned Bony, 'd be disappointed after today but I wouldn't give up hope just yet. I think he'll score a few over the next 3-5 gameweeks.
