With the winter transfer window now slammed shut, us Fantasy managers have a deadline of our own to consider. As usual, we roll out three under-the-radar options for your perusal – a couple of top-flight veterans and a youngster making his mark on Merseyside are our Gameweek 24 protagonists.

Kevin Nolan

Back-to-back suspensions over the past month have seen the West Ham midfielder tumble off Fantasy radars. Nolan returned for the midweek trip to Chelsea and, whilst he failed to get amongst the goals, the Blues’ recent defensive record makes his blank at the Bridge somewhat understandable.

Instead, Nolan’s displays prior to being dismissed at Fulham in Gameweek 20 earn him a place in our thoughts. A goal and three assists over games against Arsenal and West Brom turned heads and was enough to hint at a semblance of form before a moment of madness at the Cottage earned him a four-match ban.

Andy Carroll’s return to the Hammers first-team is another factor to consider. With his sidekick leading the line, Nolan’s prospects seem far more enticing as he buzzes around in the box looking for knockdowns from the big Geordie target man. The fixtures also weigh heavily in the Hammers’ favour. Four strong home games (SWA, NOR, SOU, HUL) and a trip to Villa in the next six could barely be kinder for Sam Allardyce’s side and suggest Nolan, at 6.5 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL), 6.8 in the Sky Sports game and 3.5 in the Sun Dream Team, could still have a part to play in our Fantasy seasons.

Shola Ameobi

The Newcastle frontman finds himself in pole position to face Sunderland tomorrow lunchtime after the FA rejected Loic Remy’s red card appeal on Friday. With the Frenchman set for a three-match ban, Yohan Cabaye departing for Parisian pastures new and both Yoan Gouffran and Papiss Cisse injury doubts, Alan Pardew looks set to hand Ameobi the chance to continue his superb scoring record in Tyne-Wear derbies.

Clearly, when it comes to games against their bitter rivals, Ameobi has the big-game temperament to flourish. Over 12 games against the Black Cats, the centre-forward has notched seven times – the second most impressive record in the club’s history. With Pardew’s side desperate to avenge a 2-1 defeat at the Stadium of Light earlier this season, Ameobi, at 4.8 in FPL, 6.8 in the Sky Sports game and 1.5 in the Sun Dream Team, could well be the man for the occasion before the Tyneside team face tough encounters with Chelsea and Tottenham.

Raheem Sterling

Many suspected the youngster’s game time would be considerably diminished upon Daniel Sturridge’s return from injury but that hasn’t quite transpired. Instead, Sterling has started all three of Liverpool’s league games with Sturridge back in the fold, maintaining a run which has seen him named in the Reds’ first XI in each of the last 11 Gameweeks.

With three goals and a trio of assists over that period, Sterling (5.3 in FPL, 4.8 in the Sky Sports game and 2.5 in the Sun Dream Team) has proven excellent value across the Fantasy games in recent weeks. Providing he can continue as a regular for the Merseysiders, the fixtures bode well for short-term investment at least – trips to West Brom and Fulham, allied with a home clash against Swansea in the next four, may well persuade Fantasy managers to acquire him as a route into Brendan Rodgers’ free-scoring side.

        Thanks and no problem.

Concerns would be Januzaj game time now, Rosenario and Burner (long term) but appreciate it's hard to find the 3.9 to 4.2 certain defenders.

Mignolet ties up a little cash but Liverpool normally go through a good Cleansheet spell hard to know whether or not to downgrade and spend the money on defence??!

If its not for a hiit, it won't be at all as always have more pressing issues to deal with but 39pts to 33pts over the last 6 GW's suggests it may pay off. Yaya more likely to start as well during the congested fixture schedule coming up, with Silva's injury record.

I'd be happier with Giroud over Adebayor this week, though it's a 50-50 for me. Jut prefer the player playing at Home. Not worth doing it this week I think. Hull could frustrate Spurs at home, but then again, I can't see Spurs not scoring.

Is Chelsea midfield coverage really needed in the final 1/3rd of the season? Their record against the current top 8 teams suggest it may be prudent to look elsewhere...

Taking their preferred starting midfield line-up to be Lampard, Ramires, Hazard, Oscar & Willian in the 8 games so far (UTD the only team played twice) they have racked up a COMBINED total of 1 goal & 1 assist

NOTE: A goalkeeper considered has best Saves/Game if he gets the highest amount. Meanwhile in Minutes/Save category, lower minutes considered as better.

As clean sheets is unpredictable for some games, i think saves amount is one of important factors that should be considered. (Apart from Home fixtures/Favourites/Missing key players/etc...)

According to this data, Adrian (£4.3) and Mannone (£4.5) are best goalkeeper choices both in Saves/Game and Minutes/Saves category. The interesting point is their appearances. Mannone only played 14 games so far his saves record is fantastic: 58, more than Cech who played all games for example. He already got 6 CS so far, and 4 of them are double figures (10 vs AVL, 10 vs NOR, 10 vs EVE, 11 vs STK) without any penalty saves. Also, get the full BPs from 3 of them.

Adrian, I know, only played 6 matches so far and some of you will excluded him from this list. But interestingly, his saves amount already reached 31. In comparison, Boruc, who had more 11 matches than him, only did 39 saves. Adrian always had more than 4 saves every match. If the trends stays the same, Adrian can match Boruc's saves in next 2-3 matches.

You are free to consider other factors, but if we only talking about saves, I think Mannone and Adrian are the best goalkeeper for you 🙂

    OTHER NOTES:
*some people here said Adrian and Mannone also could rotate well. Feel free to provide the link to strengthen this point.
*currently they are the cheapest available pairing (apart from Harper who will play, because McGregor is suspended)

I have Mannone-Boruc at the moment, but will try to fit Adrian in if I can. Cheers 😉

Watching Mankind's heroics last week I got to wondering about the lack of goalkeeper analysis.

Save points must be significant. A keeper who makes 6 saves in two consecutive games gets 4 save points - equivalent to one clean sheet.

agree with this. first time i start to found this data is when I need to choose GK from SOT vs SUN fixture. As I have both, I can't decide. Both team likely to conceded so saves points should be important. I went with Boruc because Southampton are the favoured one, but I was wrong and Mannone got more points there.

sorry Kickit, the table above is a reply fail.

as for the Jaask case, I don't know. Maybe Allardyce want to prepare Adrian as the first choice goalkeeper next season. (Jaaskelainen to retire after this season, maybe?) He's also the save monster. West Ham goalkeepers are both great for me. Probably some users here would try to choose Jaaskelainen-Adrian as their pairing? :p

I'm playing noone over hazard. Brave or stupid?

Innitially your reaction will be stupid. Consider chelseas away performances and tactics against top clubs this season.

    Blank at Man utd
    Blank at Everton
    Blank at Newcastle
    Blank at Arsenal

I am in a position where I have silva and hazard aswel as ivanovic and kolarov. I am unwilling to play so many players in the 1 game especially 2 midfielders when we know chelseas tactics.

surely for those like myself chasing the leader in our mini leagues its a punt worth taking?

So, I managed to switch out Suarez instead of Aguero to Rooney.
Anyway, 4 more hit points and 1,5 million less to shop for.......
Haha, thank God I have already given up on this season.

Also when will we know which teams have a blank in gw 29, just before gw 28?
