It’s something of an understatement to suggest Andy Carroll’s first home start of the season was eventful. Finally recovered from a heel injury that had sidelined him for months, the big target man had time to tee up Kevin Nolan for both goals in a 2-0 win over Swansea before a battle of the pony-tails with Chico Flores saw Carroll dismissed on 59 minutes:

A swing of the arm from the Hammers forward saw the Spaniard hit the deck and persuaded Howard Webb to send Carroll packing for violent conduct. The London club’s appeal was subsequently rejected on Tuesday as the FA backed their World Cup-bound whistler but the matter may not end there – Sam Allardyce’s side are reportedly set to take legal action on the decision, having expected to see the ban overturned.

Carroll is sidelined for this weekend’s trip to Villa and will also miss back-to-back home games with Norwich and Southampton – a real blow for both Hammers’ survival bid and Nolan’s Fantasy prospects, with the midfielder’s appeal diminished as a result of his sidekick’s absence.

Elsewhere, Loic Remy, Allan McGregor and Mathieu Flamini are all set to serve the second of three-match bans this weekend. Alan Pardew must do without his top scorer for Newcastle’s upcoming clashes with Chelsea and Tottenham, McGregor sits out games against Sunderland and Southampton, whilst Flamini is still sidelined for Arsenal’s crucial encounters with Liverpool and United over the next few days.

The Suspension Tightrope now has 15 players on seven or more cautions – if any reach 10 yellows by the second Sunday in April (Gameweek 34), they’ll be facing a ban. Leading the way on eight apiece are Fabian Delph, Marouane Chamakh, Wayne Rooney and Jonas Olsson.

From a Fantasy perspective, the United frontman is obviously the main name there –he’s now been booked in three of his last four appearances. Further analysis highlights Rooney’s frustration – he has been on the losing side five times this term and been cautioned in four of those games. Indeed, only once has he been booked in a winning side at Old Trafford this season.

Villa supply the Tightrope with the highest number of players. Joining Delph are Gabby Agbonlahor and Ciaran Clark, who have both incurred the referee’s wrath on seven occasions, whilst Stoke and West Brom have a couple of player balancing precariously. Potters pair Jon Walters and Geoff Cameron sit on seven cautions apiece, as does Fabrice Mulumbu, who joins team-mate Olsson in this week’s refresh after picking up a yellow in Sunday’s home draw with Liverpool.

From the sporting life , someone likes Rooney

. The correct score markets are, therefore, of interest with 4-0 (10/1) and 5-0 (20/1) but a small interest on a Wayne Rooney hat-trick is preferred. He has a terrific record against Sunday's visitors and lies fifth in the list of Premier League hat-trick scorers with six, one more than strike partner Van Persie. He can be expected to play further forward now that Mata is in the side and the bookmakers don't appear to have taken that into account with Rooney a top price 18/1 while Van Persie is as short as 9/2. Take a chance on the England hit-man striking form with a vengeance.

Realistically doesn't look like Rooney will play in midfield this week does it? Jones, Fletcher and Fellaini available to play alongside Carrick. Wonder if Moyes will be tempted to rotate in Januzaj for Young. Could be an extraordinarily attacking side with Januzaj, Rooney, Mata and RVP the front three. Still mulling over whether to bring Rooney in this week for Sturridge, though it's super risky.

I went full puntard in the WC so I guess yes, a lot! Bad to gamble for the sake of it though. Difficult to assess Sturridge/Suarez's goal threat against Arsenal who convincingly blanked them in the reverse fixture by dominating midfield.

Yeah. It basically comes down to spending a transfer (4 points) on the punt. Because saving it will save me a hit somewhere down the line. Effectively betting Rooney will outscore Sturridge by at least 4 points.

You could be right..I went RVP because of the certainty of where he plays but your Rooney pick could smarter. I fancy Moyes will want a big win tomorrow for the psychology of it all..assuming he actually knows what that word means.

Ahhhh, Moyes. Could you imagine Moyes mind games? They probably end at "We hope to win the game". I'm only considering Rooney because I can't afford RVP without selling Suarez.

    A - ooohh he's such a bad ass

Yeah I'd had it pencilled in to swap caz for silva.. But Caz's form is making it more difficult to pull the trigger. But silva is better than yaya?

I can't afford the straight swap to Yaya - I'm someone who simply can't bring myself to put Yaya in my team, when Silva surely should in reality be scoring more points. But it is painful watching City without Yaya in your team! So up to you really 🙂

Been thinking same. Decided to go with form . Caz had little playing time and time to make up lost ground. Fixtures mean zilch for an attacking mid that's on form - well that's my reasoning anyway.

Newcastle have conceded 25 chances from their right in the last 4 games, more than any other team.
Hazard plays left... looked great against city (motm in my book) and made it look easy to pass Zabaleta.
Tiote out, Collocini out, no Cabaye, no Remy.

Considering him too, my only concern would be that Hazard, being the great counterattacking beast he is, will be less effective against a side which parks the bus (I would wager this is fairly prominent in Pardew's thinking for this fixture). Hence he could impress against City with all that space but maybe be frustrated if Newcastle play a deep line. Unsure they could park the bus right now if they wanted, though.

Good point.. but even if the game will be like that he is just brilliant at cutting in and taking shots with his right foot.

In my case, I just dont have a better option imo than Hazard.. and I DO really think it will pay off

Yeah he's a superb player irrespective of the opposition and clearly well capable of unlocking defences, but most tempting against cavalier teams that try attacking. Looking at this scores he can score against anyone though.

Debuchy likes going forward tho, and with their lack of options up front (no Cabaye, Remy) he probably will try against Chelsea. Tho I have to say I like Debuchy and think he is a great fb.

I wasn't going to play FF this season (no mini-leagues), but then jumped in late in week 7. Now that I'm somehow still in the cup (fantastic draws and a little bit of luck) and finally up against a team I probably won't beat, I was thinking...

If you're not worried about week-to-week leagues, it would make a lot of sense to disregard points at all for the first 15/16 weeks and use transfers and hits all you need to build up crazy team value, then a week or 2 before the cup starts, settle down and get a real team -- you'd have both your wildcards and way more cash to play with. As long as you get an entry-qualifying score in the first cup week, you're all set.
