David Moyes’ men are under further scrutiny as United fail to beat basement-dwellers Fulham at Old Trafford, while Emmanuel Adebayor sneaks a winner against Everton to send Spurs above the Toffees in the race for Champions League football.

Van Persie Still Toiling to Justify Price Tag
Robin van Persie’s equaliser at Old Trafford means he has now scored in all three appearances since returning from a thigh injury. Indeed, the Dutchman has found the net in seven of his last eight Premier League games and, whilst he is beginning to show some of the consistency that made him FPL’s most expensive player, he’s produced just two sets of double figures over that run, offering far less security as an armband option. Luis Suarez had left the captain’s door wide open with a nominal contribution to his side’s five goals on Saturday – Eden Hazard’s 21 point-haul set the benchmark sky-high but Van Persie’s six points at home to a struggling side was hugely disappointing for those managers who’d readjusted their squads in order to accommodate the 13.6 forward.

Rooney Stumbles Again as Mata Ticks Over
If van Persie’s performance was underwhelming, Wayne Rooney’s owners will be seriously considering his Fantasy prospects. Having started the game just behind Van Persie, with Ashley Young and Juan Mata either side, Rooney once again played a significant portion of the game in a withdrawn berth. The England forward arguably improved the hosts threat from his deeper role but, at 11.3, he’s now drawn blanks in all three appearances since returning from injury and could well be set for a transfer out of our squads. Mata, on the other hand, shared a near-identical average position with Rooney but had far superior creative outputs. The Spaniard created five chances to Rooney’s one and picked up a third assists in as many games – with a couple of bonus points also accrued, the 9.8-priced midfielder is steadily accumulating the points, in spite of his side’s struggles.

Time to Forget Moyes’ Defence
Fulham’s exposure of United’s defensive fragility will have set alarm bells ringing as the Champions prepare for five weeks on the road across all competitions. Moyes’ men have picked up just two clean sheets away from Old Trafford this season, and face a challenging run of fixtures which afford them home comforts in just two their next six league games – playing host to free-scoring Liverpool and Manchester City in that period. With a blank in Gameweek 28 confirmed, there could surely be no worse a time to invest in the Red Devils’ rearguard.

Sidwell in the Goals Yet Again
Rene Meulensteen rang the changes following Fulham’s dismal home defeat to Southampton. The Cottagers boss opted for a younger, more mobile line-up, with Brede Hangeland, Damien Duff, Scott Parker and Darren Bent dropping to the bench, yet it was an old face who stole the limelight, as Steve Sidwell continued to defy his 5.2 FPL price tag. The industrious midfielder was instrumental in the Cottager’s upset at Old Trafford and, having notched his sixth strike of the season, now sits 13th in the midfield standings – one point above David Silva – and top by position on points per pound. It remains to be seen whether Meulensteen’s invigorated squad will offer up more budget-friendly alternatives as the weeks progress, but with tough games in the short term (LIV, wba, CHE), Fantasy managers will likely remains sceptical for now.

Adebayor the Tottenham Talisman as Eriksen is Hauled off Early
A match-winning goal and couple of bonus points kept Emanuel Adebayor on Fantasy radars yesterday. The Togolese star now boasts six goals and three assists in his nine Premier League starts under Tim Sherwood – a very respectable 6.2 points per game, level with Van Persie and Rooney and bettered only by Suarez, Sergio Aguero and Daniel Sturridge this season. The 7.9-priced forward continues to offers exceptional value ahead of trips to Newcastle and Norwich before Spurs welcome Cardiff to the Lane in Gameweek 28, when the likes of United and City both face blanks.

Christian Eriksen’s owners will be somewhat concerned by yesterday’s turn of events, though. The Dane, who had missed just 23 minutes of Sherwood’s first eight matches in charge, was given just 58 minutes to impress before being replaced by Andros Townsend against Everton. As the injuries start to ease in midfield, it seems his game time is a little less secure than we’d hoped for, with Sherwood willing to sacrifice him early in order to change things around.

Vertonghen’s Return Builds Case for Spurs’ Defence
The 6.9-priced defender immediately registered on the FPL radar on his return to action last week with a couple of bonus points against Hull, despite his side conceding at the KC. With Sunday’s clean sheet against the high-flying Toffees, the Belgian is showing some encouraging Fantasy form ahead of those tidy fixtures over the next three gameweeks. Spurs have kept a clean sheet in 50% of the games in which Vertonghen has played (eight from 16), a figure that dropped to 22% (two from nine) during his absence. His influence will certainly boost the appeal of the Spurs defence, with Kyle Walker perhaps the most likely to reap investment. Walker’s assist from a quickly-taken free-kick sealed three bonus points, as the right back continues to offer attacking threat along with his improved clean sheet potential.

    Mannone McGregor
    Coleman Kos Cahill Gabbi Vlaar
    Hazard Yaya Mata Noone AJ
    Suarez Sturridge J.Rod

    3.1ITB, 2FT

    Suggestions? My thoughts:
    1. AJ to Lallana (or other mid-priced mid)
    2. Kos/Vlaar to Chelsea defender
    3. McGregor out to avoid Mannone vs mci

I'm keen on lallana, but less so on doubling up... Having a free next week would be good, but currently thinking AJ + Vlaar to Lallana + Azpi, or if yaya is suspended, AJ + Yaya out to ??.

Anyone else hoping Yaya gets a ban? There was talk that he could potentially miss 5 out of the next 6 GW's if a ban came in (blanks included). I'm an owner but think this could really help those with high TV's as most will lost huge value if they sold and had to buy back and with Aguero also coming back quite a few could struggle to bring these big hitters back in without huge sacrifice.

I don't own Yaya but do own Silva and obviously will own Aguero when he's fit.

I hope Yaya doesn't get a ban because City don't perform well without him. They struggled against Palace at Christmas and they struggled against Norwich, primarily because Yaya was staying deep. They seem to need his marauding presence around the attacks.

So, if we're talking about what we hope, I hope Yaya doesn't get banned and Fernandinho and Aguero come back very soon so that Silva and Aguero score better.

Would love to get a discussion going about whether Lallana is worth bringing in (or transferring out) considering how he tends to not perform as well in away games, and with 3 away games in his next 4. The 4 games happen to be Hull (pretty solid team defensively at home), West Ham (have been rock solid in D lately) and Crystal Palace (also defensively solid at home) all away, and the home game being against Liverpool.

As for his stats, in the last 9 games (choose 9 games because that's when his good form started, he hadn't made attacking points in any of the 5 games before that so that would only skew the results): he's averaged 7.8 points per home game, and 5.5 points per away game. Also worth mentioning that his home games were Tottenham, Chelsea, West Brom, Arsenal, and Stoke (pretty tough games, making his home form even more impressive), while his away games have been Cardiff, Everton, Sunderland, Fulham which has got to be one of the easier set of games (in terms of ability to score).

So with the 3 upcoming away games looking much tougher than that, and a lower points per game away from home even when comparing tough home games to easy away games, is he worth having in the short-medium term? Of course this question is dependent on the alternatives, so are there 4 mids better to have than him over the next 3 games, well i'd personally put a City mid, Hazard, and Nolan ahead but can't think of a clear-cut fourth. Options include:

Mirallas: Won't be playing through the center for much longer with Barkley and Traore coming back so that dents his potential
Gerrard: Decent idea but with Sturridge looking like a must, would you want a mid and 2 strikers from 1 team?
Adam: Looking really good lately but his upcoming games are very tough
Doubling-up on City mid: Also not a bad option but it seems to risky to over-invest in City at the moment (though 2 of Navas, Silva, and Toure sounds appetizing over the next few weeks) and with rotation a possibility, and the blank gameweek to prepare for, it's not the best option
Cazorla: Probably the best of the lot, but again, how will Arsenal react, and his next game is against United (not exactly the scariest game in the world anymore but still)
Mata: Looking good but his upcoming games/blank are a little worrisome

    Any thoughts?

Good points (although nolan is yellow flagged?). I'd say Mata will probably tick along nicely, would probably be my choice. But of that lot, lallana would probably be next on my list, although with J.Rod in my team, wondering whether it's worth bringing him in.

He is yellow flagged but he's practically confirmed that he'll play the midweek game (i'd say 90% chance to play). I'm a bit cautious about Lallana, i gotta say doubling up on Southampton (i have J-Rod, and considering how he does better in away games, i'm not worried about him) seems a bit much with those games

I was actually thinking the same earlier today.. the awaygames are pretty hard fixtures tbh, but none of the other options is tempting enough for me to make a transfer this week. Also, its usually a stupid idea to transfer out a player in form imo.

Biggest reason for me not to transfer him out this gw is that I want to know how gw 29 will look like, so I will save my transfer and make up my mind next gw instead.

Adam would be a good option tho imo

Mirallas - IMO his nailed-on-ness and the freekick rotation with Baines makes him the best of the lot although I like Mata - even if the team are not playing well he reads it well and will be involved more often or not.

Thanks, much appreciated, and as for Mata, i have him, but with Away to United, Away to Crystal Palace, and a blank as the next three, i feel like i should sub him out. I feel like i've done much better over the past few weeks when i've been more aggressive in bringing and transferring players out, such as AJ a few weeks ago. Mirallas, well again he's tempting but Traore will probably play the next game, which means Mirallas won't play as centrally so would you say he's still attractive?

His away points per game may be less than his home points but 5.5 is still pretty good. Undroppable at the moment with the form they are in and we simply do not know how they will go in their upcoming fixtures but one thing is for sure, and that is their current form. I think it would be better to put your faith on what is known imo, back their current form.

Possibly decreasing but I wouldn't bank on it. With the form they are in I don't see why they couldn't perform away from home as well, and I don't think the fixtures are that bad either.

Well Southampton haven't really been doing worse in the games included for the stats i mentioned, he was. So Southampton can continue to do decently, but he will just not perform as well as in the home games. West Ham, and Crystal Palace have a realistic chance to get clean sheets in those games and Hull D isn't too shabby either, and while Liverpool's D isn't the most solid in the league, it still isn't an easy game. Isn't it nearly guaranteed that his points per game would fall, and fall enough to possibly make you look elsewhere?

Very good analysis, though the forthcoming blanks play a massive part for me. Unless I was after Adam or Mata I'd hold the transfer if possible and see what happens with the FA cup games.

I think Lallana is a great buy though, and with Lambert back that will only help. He will score similar points to Mata in my eyes but is 2 million cheaper, so yes I'd get him in :).

Thanks. It definitely feels like if you've got Lallana, you're better off transferring someone else out or saving the transfer but for people that don't have him, it seems like a difficult choice. You could say that for example, Toure/Silva Hazard Nolan Cazorla (a cheapie as a sub) could/should potentially make more points over the next 3-4 weeks. The Cazorla/Mirallas/Adam/Lallana/etc... is the tough one, i feel like there are positives and negatives for each, and if Arsenal or City weren't in such bad shape at the moment, Cazorla or 2 of Navas/Toure/Silva would be a bit of a no brainer, but hey that's the beauty of FPL.

Lucky you 🙂 I'd be making a much bigger/better case for Mirallas but home to Palace, away to Chelsea, home to West Ham don't seem too attractive (West Ham have been very solid at home and away lately, no need to mention why Chelsea is tough, and home to Palace is the only good one). And Traore was on the bench on the last game and Barkley didn't play, it could very well mean Mirallas is shunted back on the wing all of a sudden. I'm looking for that perfect 3-4 week punt and Cazorla is looking more and more attractive, home to United, home to Sunderland, away to Stoke, home to Swansea; if i just had a little more faith in Arsenal, this would've been a no brainer

Yeah Arsenal are flagging a bit aren't they. Very good reasoning on Mirallas though.
I'd go Sterling as you can keep the money in the bank until a more obvious choice arises. Nolan/Lallana alternatively.

Sterling/Gerrard would be a very good option but i've got Sturridge, Suarez, and Flanagan so i can't. But having a mid and 2 strikers from 1 team would've been too much anyways i guess. I gotta say i'm leaning more towards Cazorla, they did go on a good run after getting demolished vs City earlier in the season, and with some easy games coming up, they could very well do the same.

Cheers for that. Was actually leaning towards Lallana because Hull seem pretty tight at home and he sometimes struggles away, or even (whisper it...) RVP, though it seems crazy to leave £13m+ on the bench. Sterling's a decent shout, just worries he'll go wild at Fulham like he did on Saturday...

ERIKSEN: slightly worried. opinions here or any news?

just a breather 4 him to come out, or trend for thigs to coe w/ Sherwoood slowly rotation midfield btn Eriksen and now health Townsend?
or was Eriksen slightly injured.Yes, he was not playing too well during gw.

dont have a FT, so if any action, would have to be a HIT -4 for Lallana. Next 2 gw are all tied up the FT for the mci gw28 crash.

Would really appreciate some opinions. What should my transfer priority be?

      A) Sort out my dodgy defence (which has 1 non-starter and 1 uncertain starter) or
      B) Bring in a Man City attacker? Finding it difficult because until Aguero's back I don't know which Man City striker is likely to get most game time. Also blank GW28.

Squad below, [planned transfers in brackets]

      Manonne, Marshall
Coleman, Kos, Clyne [Azpilicueta], Ward, Bruce [McShane]
      Hazard, Lallana, Mirallas, Eriksen, Mutch
Suarez, Sturridge, Rodriguez [a Man City striker]
