[sbu_large_image] Suspensions

Wes Brown’s red card habit continues to blight the Black Cats chances of beating the drop after the centre-half was sent packing for the third time this term.

Given that the first dismissal (for a foul on Charlie Adam back in Gameweek 12) was rescinded, however, this means Brown will only serve a two-match ban – one for denying a goalscoring opportunity and another for receiving his second confirmed suspension of the season.

The former United man was a victim of Gus Poyet’s penchant for playing it out from the back on Saturday. Phil Bardsley’s pass into no man’s land was pounced upon by Shane Long and, as the Baggies new boy bore sprinted towards goal, Brown scythed him down just outside the penalty area with only four minutes on the clock.

Playing with 10 men for the rest of the match, the Wearsiders were unable to extend their four-match unbeaten run as both Long and strike partner Nikica Jelavic notched a goal apiece to help Steve Bruce get one over his former club.

Brown will now miss Wednesday’s trip to City and is set to be sidelined for the upcoming FA Cup clash with Southampton, meaning he only misses one league match. Looking at Sunderland’s recent defensive displays, this is a huge relief for Poyet – the Black Cats have four clean sheets in the last six games that Brown has played from start to finish, winning three and drawing three of those fixtures. Bizarrely, he has yet to receive a yellow card this term.

We now have five players on the right-card limit after Stoke’s Jon Walters earned another yellow during Saturday’s draw at St Mary’s. He joins Fabian Delph, Marouane Chamakh, Wayne Rooney and Jonas Olsson on the naughty step, with 11 players further back on seven cautions apiece.

Elsewhere, Andy Carroll serves the second of his controversial three-match ban against Norwich tomorrow, with the Hammers target man also set to sit out the Gameweek 27 home game against Southampton. Mathieu Flamini, Allan McGregor and Loic Remy are also sidelined, with all three serving the last of their respective three-match suspensions.

Finally, Yaya Toure owners can breathe a sigh of relief after the FA confirmed they will not be taking action over his alleged altercation with Norwich’s Ricky Van Wolfswinkel at the weekend.

The incident, which was missed by the match officials, was reviewed by a three-man panel of former referees earlier today. In order for a charge to follow, all three must agree the act was violent conduct but their decision was not unanimous, meaning Toure is free to turn out for City against Sunderland tomorrow evening.

Cardiff’s Craig Bellamy has been charged for an incident in Saturday’s loss at Welsh rivals Swansea and looks poised to face a three-match ban. The panel were unanimous in their decision, though the Bluebirds have since confirmed they are reviewing the matter ahead of tomorrow’s 6pm deadline. If found guilty, Bellamy will miss home league games against Villa and Hull, in addition to an FA Cup clash with Wigan, before being available for selection in time for the Gameweek 28 trip to Tottenham.

      I'm doing Mata to Yaya.

Not too sold on Mirallas, especially with Deulofeu back in the mix.

Would be shocked if he got dropped, he's their best player. While Lukaku is still out I think he'll play up top instead of Traore with Deulofeu on the wing

Bony to Dzeko for a hit? I know City have a blank fixture coming up in 2 weeks and City aren't scoring a lot, but do we really think they won't score at Home against Sunderland and Stoke? Leaving Dzeko out didn't help Pelle. As for Bony, he hasn't scored an away goal. Its a gamble to take him out for a hit surely, for Dzeko. But a gamble I am willing to take. I just have Mata and Bardsley left who'll blank, and I can leave both on the bench for GW28.

Yes IMO. Mata is amazing. Even in a shitty tactical setup, he pulls all the strings and sucks up all the baps without having contributed more than an assist in a game so far (though that's 3 consecutive assists so far).

Also will only play PL games the rest of the season is likely to play 90s week in and out. So with a better manager or just some slightly better tactics he should run rampant.

and yet he is still delivering. Just imagine if someone finally tells Moyes to stop fking about with the 100% cross play or if United finally sack him (fingers crossed).

The only consistent thing about FA is that continue to stagger with their ineptitude. Once again the men in suits let themselves down and really have no clue. I simply don't understand the mindset of how they get to and endorse decisions.

Carroll barely touched Chico but I can see why it was not overturned. It was a harsh decision in many peoples eyes but they stuck to their guns and backed the ref - I've no problem with that, they took a tough stance.

However, we have two instances here where punishment due to their own rules was surely a simple decision to make, an absolute no brainer.

Yaya barely touched RVW but that is not the point. It was petulant, it wasn't seen and yet he still gets away with it. Completely the wrong message sent out here to the youngsters watching from the stands and on their TV's. Bellamy deserved what he got, but where is the consistency? Bellamy's reputation has done him no favours there.

Yaya is a great player and will obviously play a part against Sunderland and Stoke. If he scores a 90th minute winner and one of those two teams go down by a point at the end of the season how unfair is that?

People will say it was hardly anything with regards to Yaya, but when the FA dish out 3 game bans in the future for instances such as this they are going to have to deal with a backlash from managers and the media, they are just making it harder for themselves and I don't understand why. They just seem a bit dim really.

City are a big club and West Ham and Cardiff aren't. Simple as that I suspect.

I don't like to think like that but they don't help themselves, this just fans the flames for opinions such as this.

Imagine if it was Suarez, Cattermole or the like? You can't help but think the outcome would be different.

Furthermore, much like the ECB this week - What is the problem with coming out and explaining yourself properly instead of reeling off the standard tosh? Just hiding and being cowardly about it all.

Wasn't FA, it was three ex refs

That is what I meant by endorsing the decision. Saying it was made by three ex refs is merely the curtain they'll hide behind.

Wow! Quite a precedent the FA have chosen to make there. Nothing a ref can do now if other players decide to kick players in the back when they are down.
