i've been playing this game for years, and yet still cannot comprehend how the "luck factor" persists in bending me right over, rubbing just about the right amount of vaseline on its manhood and f***ing me in the ass..
i won't bore ye with the details, but im pretty sick of this game at the moment.. a friend of mine and knowledgeable FPL player once told me, "the obvious transfer is usually the correct one" (unless playing catch up in a ML), and while i agree with this to an extent, there are obviously lots variables to consider..
i've always done my transfers in anticipation of future fixtures, and not just the immediate GW, but this tactic has not paid off in the past 3-4 years. i have never won a minileague, but have always finished a distant 2nd or 3rd- not bad but i feel like i deserve better with the time i dedicate to this, much like a lot of people on here i'm guessing?
anyway, what further compounds my frustration are the recreationals in my minileagues taking foolish hits (sideways moves; transferring in someone who has a blank GW 2wks later; benching one of those transfers; taking out someone after one game because he didn't score after taking a hit to get him in)..
can anyone relate to this, and if so, how do you beat this game and make it less stressful? yes, i know it's "only" a game, but i know i'm not on my own with the above points/complaints..Open ControlsCreate a league of people who know nothing about football and are casuals.....
you should always go with the big hitters ALWAYS - chasing leading whatever
the best way to win it - is to aim to have 1 or 2 differentials and exploit them that way
exploit blanks and doubles..

There are so many great posters on here. I rely on balancing my gut/experience with input from the excellent talent on here. One important thing to do: ALWAYS check the source of the advice being offered or comment being made. I check whether the poster has their team linked. If not, I don't give their comments much weight, if any. If their team is linked, but they have never consistently scored in the top 40k each season they have played, I take their comments with a grain of salt. If they have great scores, I take notes and balance against my experience.

No worries. If it makes you feel any better, I usually implode once a season. I mean REALLY implode and drop behind my mini-league leader by about 100 points or so. Stay patient and keep at it. You can catch them and pass them. Then, of course, the hard work begins. 🙂

Yeah it can be hard work sometimes.
What you have to remember is that when you're considering a sensible move, so are a few million other players. Either you simply have amazing luck, or you play some risks ... otherwise you finish in the middle with all the other people pulling the same trades each week.
There are always a few moments where you can make some jumps up the ranks ... and most of these are due to patience and not knee-jerking ... rather than making bold decisions. have a look at the guys in the top 100 each year, play a mostly conservative year but always have a moment where they'll bring in an Ivanovic and captain him, and end up 30-points better off because of it.Open Controlstotally agree.. i haven't knee jerked once this season, just from past experience. i've followed fiso, caught the price rises before jan WC and traded up. i've saved transfers when needs be, and taken hits when necessary, but still amn't where i wwant to be (130k overall)..
you've hit the nail on the head there, the ivanovic captain type situation. i just don't have it in me to take those kind of risks. i've played a lot of tournament poker over the years, where the general idea is to play as solid as possible at the start, and let the less experienced make their mistakes as time goes by, much like in this game and indeed life; play with as close to a template as possible, climb up the ranks and then if the time calls for it, take risks toward the end.
now, i do have my WC still intact, knowing that there would be DGWs and assuming it'd be tight in a few MLs, so i have that in my favour, but being 100pts off the ML leaders is gonna be tough, but nowhere near impossible, to achieve.Open ControlsYou have a WC?!! top 130K is plenty good... considering there are 3.1 million teams. Thats well inside the top 5%... even if half are ghost ships... thats inside the top 10% of serious players.
i have just nudged inside the top 500K after a disastrous mid season spell where everything i did was poo... and have been playing for 4 years... tinkering every week... reading ffs and pundits...
