Home matches for all of the top four teams play a major part in our selections this week. We double up on Chelsea, Arsenal, City and Liverpool for our Scout Picks XI, then, with the latter two teams also supplying our bench with a player apiece ahead of their games against Stoke and Swansea respectively:

A home clash with Fulham sees Ben Foster selected between the posts this weekend. Whilst the Cottagers under Felix Magath are an unknown quantity, their failure to score in three of the previous four away fixtures bodes well for the West Brom number one’s clean sheet potential.

We opt for Per Mertesacker as Arsenal prepare to welcome Sunderland to the Emirates. A shut-out looks on the cards for the Gunners, bearing in mind they have conceded just once in their last nine home league games, whilst Mertesacker’s goal threat and propensity to earn bonus has helped him climb to second in the defender standings thus far.

Three sets of successive double-figure hauls is indicative of Branislav Ivanovic’s current form ahead of Chelsea’s home clash with Everton. The Serbian’s attacking raids down the right have reaped reward in recent weeks, whilst the Toffees face a tough task to breach a backline that has conceded a mere three goals in the last 10 Gameweeks.

City’s home encounter with Stoke brings Aleksandar Kolarov into this week’s Picks. With 27 goals against on their travels, the Potters have the third worst away defence in the top-flight and Manuel Pellegrini is resultantly expected to go on the attack, meaning the Serbian’s raiding runs and penchant for a long-range strike should help earn him the nod over Gael Clichy. Given that Mark Hughes’ side have scored three times in their last seven road trips, City’s chances of a shut-out look likely.

Eden Hazard has racked up three double-figure hauls in his last five home appearances ahead of Chelsea’s showdown with Everton. The Belgian produced 21 points in his previous appearance at the Bridge and faces a Toffees side that have managed just a single clean sheet in the last 11 Gameweeks.

Yaya Toure’s prospects look a little brighter now that Fernandinho has returned from injury ahead of City’s home game against Stoke. The Ivorian has registered two successive blanks, but with his midfield sidekick now back in the starting line-up, he’ll be afforded the opportunity to forage forward and join in his side’s attacks – Toure has scored or assisted in nine of his 11 Etihad appearances this term.

Raheem Sterling’s budget appeal earns him the nod for Liverpool’s home game against Swansea. The 5.6-priced midfielder bagged a brace against Arsenal in his previous Anfield appearance and, with the Welsh club rolling up to Merseyside on the back of an energy-sapping Europa League clash against Napoli, Brendan Rodgers’ side look overwhelming favourites.

A home game against Sunderland brings Santi Cazorla into contention. With the likes of Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud struggling for any semblance of form or confidence, the little Spaniard looks vital to Arsenal’s chances of breaking down the Black Cats’ rearguard – two goals and an assist in his last three at the Emirates bodes well for the weekend.

Luis Suarez is our preferred Liverpool forward for the Anfield encounter with Swansea. Yes, Daniel Sturridge has shown better form in recent matches but the Uruguayan’s tendency to produce the points against less-fancied sides at home swayed us. Suarez has already racked up six sets of double figures in front of his own fans and is heavily backed in this week’s Captain Poll to deliver against a defence that have conceded in each of their last 10 road trips.

With three goals in his last four since returning from injury, Robin van Persie has been quick to find his form. A trip to Palace isn’t the easiest, but with Wayne Rooney still struggling in a withdrawn role, the underlying stats suggest the Dutchman’s eye for goal could prove the difference this weekend and temporarily put the brakes on the Eagles’ revival under Tony Pulis.

Having been omitted from the Spurs squad for yesterday’s trip to the Ukraine, Emmanuel Adebayor looks likely to return to the starting XI for a tricky trip to Carrow Road. Norwich have now registered three consecutive home clean sheets but will do well to keep the Togo international at bay – he’s notched seven times in five away appearances under Tim Sherwood.

We hand John Flanagan a spot on the bench for Liverpool’s clash with Swansea. With Glen Johnson back in the mix, the versatile Flanagan could shift over to left-back for Sunday’s Anfield encounter – the Swans have scored just twice in their last five road trips, boosting their hosts’ chances of a shut-out.

A goal and assist in his last four appearances suggest Robert Snodgrass is starting to pick up in form. If Norwich are to get the better of Spurs this coming Sunday, their playmaker’s creativity and goal threat may well prove instrumental as Chris Hughton’s side look to scramble up the table.

Handed a brief sub appearance against Barcelona in midweek, Edin Dzeko is expected to return to the City starting line-up tomorrow. With Alvaro Negredo and Stevan Jovetic both available, there’s enough of a doubt to dissuade us from naming the Bosnian in the Picks XI – if he starts, though, the points potential is obvious against a porous Potters backline.

    Evening all

Would you play Chester ahead of Coleman? Other defenders are Kos, Cahill, Ward. Am thinking that Cardiff are particularly awful and unlikely to score whereas I think Chelsea are likely to beat Everton by a couple of goals. Is Chester still injured though?

Alpha tends to be testing by employees/people affiliated with the project. Beta is more open to the public to get a greater number of people using it and spring bugs that the alpha group may have missed with their limited resources.

Am very happy Rooney has signed up! We simply could not have replaced him. And with him committing himself till 2019 it can only help with signing new players.

Yeah 300k a week for a player who regularly throws a tantrum when not played in his favourite position. Has threatened to go to City and to Chelsea in the last few seasons when not getting his way. Also means he has to stay in shape into his thirties, given how he can't even do that over the Summer I'm doubtful. Finally, that wage means he earns a higher basic salary than Messi (251k a week). Far too much money to be paying him.

Lets hope Rooney has a good few goalscoring years left in him. With Mata in behind and Adnan + A new winger(hopefully) feeding him, lets hope he can hit 25 a season.

I just hate that he can threaten to leave and they literally give him everything he wants. Already ousted Kagawa from the AM position to keep him happy. Now RVP has to go. Wish Fergie sold him last season to be honest.

Already ousted Kagawa to keep him happy? This isn't some kind of benelovence. What exactly has Kagawa done to warrant a place anyway?

When had Kagawa been given the chance either? We're so quick to claim foreign players need time to adjust but how many uninterrupted matches did he have in the AM role? Mats playing winger half the time now too. Why buy the best AM in the PL and the best AM in the Bindesliga (at the time) and put them on the wings?

Easy solution is to change formation but that won't happen.

Januzaj is another who prefers AM (and is better there) but will have to get used to life as a winger too.

Rooney certainly does. Apparently the management too. Issue is now that I expect him to start single handedly winning matchesmatches on a regular basis. Of you want to be paid like the best player in the world you have to put in the performances.

Owners wouldn't make a profit. It's the fans that are paying these wages through season tickets and pay TV.

Well all the info I have says that Messi is earning 50k a week less. The difference is his bonuses for scoring goals may be higher (and he scores more goals). But on a basic wage it's less. As Granville said we can't be sure but that's the info I have.

They should have sold him, with Van Persie there they had some time to bring in some potential and build for the future, the squad needs a complete overhaul and seeds sown so that the club can become sufficient long term.

I agree. Look at it like this, we've had to sacrifice Kagawa, Januzaj and Mata from playing in their preferred position to keep him happy. Then they decided to pay him 300k a week and he'll still try to leave if he's made play CM (where we all know he should be)

Rooney's touch isn't good enough to be an out and out CM.

It can only be a good thing keeping him. The alternative is goes and helps Chelsea dominate the league. If we do decide to sell, then we get a nice transfer fee. I don't see the problem

See I agree with the second point certainly, the transfer fee is increased and that's very good to have.

And I accept the CM point.

But I think my biggest gripe is every season or two this happens. When Tevez was on more money Rooney's response was"F**k you, pay me more money or I leave for City"

Similar stuff happened with Chelsea and surprise surprise he gets a pay bump. I just don't like people celebrating a club vastly overplaying a player who couldn't really give a toss who he plays for as long as he's earning the most possible money.

Strange because Messi was offered doubled washes in the Summer but he didn't leave? Not all players are the same, some put loyalty first and others are just happy to earn the money they do, not require even higher wages. Of I was a millionaire playing at a club that had brought me up and given me the lifestyle I had I like to believe I wouldn't be so quick to leave for the sake of an even further bloated wage contract.

In fairness that was to go to fecking Russia! There's not many that would go there.

And by the sounds of it you would be happy to stay on the same money that he earned when he 1st signed for utd and never ask for a pay rise.

Rooney is without doubt the hardest working player at utd. Was he ever going to move or was it all part of his agents plan to get his big pay day? Everyone of us would do the same to get that sort of money

That doesn't make it okay though. You've been at a club for years, a club that pays you 250k a week and as soon as you hear one of their rivals are interested you tell them you'll leave unless you get 300k a week. Not just aimed at Rooney, he's a money grubber and that's fine. I'm annoyed that management have let him repeatedly manipulate them.

What happens when other players threaten to go to City or Chelsea if they don't raise their already bloated salaries?

                  Don't agree at all.

You simply can't replace Rooney! Who could utd buy to replace him? And If they spend big money on a replacement they would also have to pay them a big wage. You can say what you like about Rooney but he is exactly the type of player utd need to help them get ot this mess.

And don't be fooled. This also works for utd financially because am sure they make plenty of money on his name and if they decide to get rid in a year or two they can now get bigger money as he is tied to the club. Look at all the stick Arsenal got having to sell rvp because they couldn't get him signed up

I've held my 2 FTs for 10 days and still don't have a clue. Definitely only using one. All I can think of is
            Mannone -> Boruc or Speroni

So with blanks and DGWs in mind, which keeper?

Please note, both keepers would mean a double up in that particular defence.

I'd go with Mirallas Daniel, more potential upside

Only confusion is that start Coleman or AJ

and the couple of responses so far are at par. Cummon people, help the lad out: Start Coleman or AJ ?

Got a terrible feeling RVP is going to let me down again this week, in a way I sort of grateful for the blank in GW28 as it forces me to get rid of him.

Is it worth getting Ade in or is it too much of a risk for him to pay.

I would be very surprised if Ade didn't play.

I know it's a little while away, but would you rather have Silva or Mata for the double?

All depends if you have Yaya. Mata for me.

            Who to sell?

            a) Bruce > bring in Olsson, play Noone
            b) AJ > 7m mid

I brought in Olsson for the long term and I'm playing Fabio. So similar to your A).

But I reckon for you, doing B this week will be more beneficial.
