Time machines and crystal balls were engaged this week as the Fantasy Football Scout community cast aside concerns on the immediate fixtures to look ahead at the raft of missing matches from Gameweek 29. Those looming blanks dominated discussion but there was also time for a controversial post calling for the community to dump the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game’s top scorer, plus an array of threads assessing Ultimate FPL strategies. The week was also notable for the launch of a couple of new unofficial community competitions surrounding the Scout Picks and an exclusive tournament for our “Deadzone” posters.

The Hottest Topics

With most of the FA Cup quarter-finals in place, the community was this week left staring into the chasm that is Gameweek 29 and pondering how we can navigate the void left by a series of postponements. Among those to lead our community through the tricky ravines was PIPP who, quick as a flash, was on hand within a few hours of last Sunday’s games to give us the low-down on those active and missing in action from the Gameweek. His quick thinking made it one of the week’s most popular posts, as he dipped into an array of issues, including UEFA and Premier League politics. Highbrow.

Scoredelario was another of our Gameweek 29 sherpas. He provided a cautious warning about coping with the Gameweek of blanks via hits. He urged the community to avoid spending points on lightweight players merely because they have a fixture in place. Bsloebadger was also on hand to produce a great little blank fixture survival guide, complete with key options from the teams that are set to be in action.

Innsie’s team-by-team, player-by-player analysis on Gameweek 29 was another popular draw, with Peter Crouch and Charlie Adam among the unlikely names being discussed. We also offered a list of those who could be great captaincy options for the week.

Elsewhere, our resident Sky Sports game expert, “D1sable”, is also riding high in the FPL game this season. He took it upon himself to look beyond Gameweek 29 and towards the double Gameweeks that follow: his post on the long-term Gameweek 29 strategies is well worth a read.

Amongst this week’s most controversial posts was Giggs Boson’s incendiary discussion on whether now is the time to drop Luis Suarez. A string of goalless performances, including another today in the win over Swansea, perhaps provide a compelling argument. At the time, few of our community seemed brave enough to part company with the enthralling Uruguayan but the goal posts have been moved again by Daniel Sturridge’s Anfield brace this afternoon.

This weekend marked the kick-off of the Ultimate FPL game Beta. This new in-depth pursuit looks ideally placed for dedicated Fantasy managers and in our UFPL hot topic we asked what early strategies the community was looking to adopt. Meerlight offered a timely reminder on the wildcard after three Gameweeks, urging the importance of focussing on short-term fixtures.

The Community Tournaments

In Tommy We Trust’s All Things leagues we saw ENR, Bootsy, Jonty, Billy Ketsu, Jambo17 and Koneheads take top spots going into Gameweek 27.

Meanwhile, @ocprodigy has started a new game based loosely on our very own Scout Picks. His idea is for the community is to compete against each other with their own weekly picks. Plus, those who score more than the Fantasy Football Scout Picks will gain an extra point. The full rules and point scoring system are explained here.

In addition, Innsie turned up again with another proposed distraction, aimed specifically at those posters active in the early hours of the morning UK time. The “Deadzone” as it is affectionately known is always full of willing participants from many timezones and Innsie has put forward an unofficial FPL tournament dedicated to those good folk.

Finally, a reminder that our Paddy Power Cup and Members Cups are still open for entry – we will close the gates on qualifying tomorrow but, if you’ve yet to get your name in the hat, you can still get involved. Click here for details.

Came late to the Eriksen party, now I need to sub him for:
    A) Snoddy
    B) Adam
    C) Nolan (depending on playing GW29 or not)

Leaning towards Adam - not bad fixtures, scoring more points than Snoddy and leaving me for extra cash for upgrading defender to Kolarov after blank

    Your thoughts?

If you had to the below list of players, who will you prioritise to take out first? I'm expecting the majority of others taking multiple hits to field a good starting lineup in around GW28 to GW29.

    (A) Yaya Touré
    (B) Gnabry
    (C) Fabio
    (D) Ryan Bennett

I bought him for same value as he is now so it wouldn't change the team value of I do make changes on him. Personally, don't like keeping a 10.2m player on the bench. I'm taking him out.

That's the big question of the day - Nolan has more potential, but more expensive, potentially blank GW and more difficult fixtures. So by that account, Snoddy, which also seems to be the general advice here now. But wait until tonight before deciding.
      Adam/Ince/Puncheon are also relevant options

I have a 36pt lead at present hopefully I can keep or extend this gap over GW28 & 29.

There's not a whole lot you can do ,You have no control over his team.
Play as you have been and concentrate on your overall rank , don't do anything silly .
You and I both know that his Wc has lots of potential not only to give him a double digit score but more importantly sets him up for the dgws run in.

    Team ATM is

    Morning All

so got 2 FT to do something with this lot:

    Boruc (Mannone)
Cahill - Fonte - Kolarov (Whittaker - Chester)
Yaya - Hazard - Mata - Mutch (Colback)
    Suarez - Ade - Rooney

    0.5 ITB

Thinking to bench Mata + Rooney and transfer out Yaya and Kolarov but should I bother with Colback as well seeing as he has a double blank GW? Also who would you bring in for these 2?

First I did the error of picking Eriksen before Nolan, based on his then run of form. And now I've held on to him for too long, losing 0.4m 🙁 I'm swapping him for either

      A) Snodgrass
      B) Nolan
      C) Adam

Snodgrass is cheap, good fixtures, but inconsistent performer
Nolan picks up more points, tougher fixtures, potential blank GW
Adam's got OK fixtures, picks up somewhat more points than Snodgrass

Waiting till tonight to see if West Ham will get a blank

Just did my 2 transfers for the week:

    Kolarov and mata out
    Baines and llalana in

I can stomach Baines on the bench next week and he has three great home games the next three games.

    Good? Bad?

Should I use or save FT for this GW

    Team ATM is

    Marshall Mannone
    Clyne Burner Coleman Ivanovic Ward
    Eriksen Mata Pozuelo Lallana Hazard
    Suarez Sturridge Adebayor

I have 0.7 ITB and 1 precious FT but should I use it or save it so I have 2 FTs for GW 29?

BTW Eriksen Mata Suarez have already dropped in price. Pretty sure Clyne will drop too

The question is do I save or use my FT for this week. If I don't I will have 2 FTs for GW 29?

Hey guys, many people seem to be suggesting to wait until tonight to see if it is worthwhile getting Nolan as WHM might have a blank GW29- but is Snodgrass the better choice regardless?

Norwich have better fixtures in the short term as well.

    Norwich: avl, STO, sot

    West Ham: eve, HUL, sto

I realize that if Hull win tonight I don't have a GK... I've got Adrian + Mannone, but I'd be reluctant to ditch Adrian as he's such a good pick especially considering his price. Stupid to save an FT when you don't have a GK playing?

No thoughts on this? Alternatives are McGregor and Ruddy. Both more expensive and worse picks than Adrian for Mannone rotation.

Seeing a few posts looking at ditching Suarez...feel free..but

    For the past two gameweeks

Most touches in the pen area...Luis Suarez
Most shots in the box...Luis Suarez
    Most total shots...Luis Suarez
    Most chances created...Luis Suarez
    Highest ICT threat...Luis Suarez

I think it's risky to drop him. Even if you were to do it, this seems like a really bad timing to do so. Aguero is probably back for GW30, much, much better timing.

Yeah thats the proof why people should keep. We have to remember that he is playing in a left CAM role instead of Striker where Sturridge is therefore Sturridge finds it easier to score. Suarez is still a massive threat though

Anyone watching the games will realise there's far more to it than just the stats. He's still a machine obviously, but he's spending WAY too much time wide atm and as such Sturridge is the better option currently. SAS still the best two forwards in the game though.

Misleading. I haven't seen any recent Pool games and relied on the comparison tool to make the captaincy choice. I watched much of the game yesterday and Suarez was poor by his standards. His shooting, his passing in particular. Proof, if any were needed that watching games eats statistics for breakfast every time.

    Hi,

OPTA, who provide us with our stats, have decided that John Terry did get a slight touch on the ball in this instance, and so technically speaking he did score the goal. Unfortunately we can't go back and change this at this stage, and so it will remain as John Terry's goal on the Fantasy game. We appreciate that the 'goal' may be reviewed by the dubious goals panel, but we are never able to change any stats on the game after an hour has passed following the final whistle in any game. We're sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause.
    Regards,
    Fantasy Premier League Support
