Time machines and crystal balls were engaged this week as the Fantasy Football Scout community cast aside concerns on the immediate fixtures to look ahead at the raft of missing matches from Gameweek 29. Those looming blanks dominated discussion but there was also time for a controversial post calling for the community to dump the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game’s top scorer, plus an array of threads assessing Ultimate FPL strategies. The week was also notable for the launch of a couple of new unofficial community competitions surrounding the Scout Picks and an exclusive tournament for our “Deadzone” posters.

The Hottest Topics

With most of the FA Cup quarter-finals in place, the community was this week left staring into the chasm that is Gameweek 29 and pondering how we can navigate the void left by a series of postponements. Among those to lead our community through the tricky ravines was PIPP who, quick as a flash, was on hand within a few hours of last Sunday’s games to give us the low-down on those active and missing in action from the Gameweek. His quick thinking made it one of the week’s most popular posts, as he dipped into an array of issues, including UEFA and Premier League politics. Highbrow.

Scoredelario was another of our Gameweek 29 sherpas. He provided a cautious warning about coping with the Gameweek of blanks via hits. He urged the community to avoid spending points on lightweight players merely because they have a fixture in place. Bsloebadger was also on hand to produce a great little blank fixture survival guide, complete with key options from the teams that are set to be in action.

Innsie’s team-by-team, player-by-player analysis on Gameweek 29 was another popular draw, with Peter Crouch and Charlie Adam among the unlikely names being discussed. We also offered a list of those who could be great captaincy options for the week.

Elsewhere, our resident Sky Sports game expert, “D1sable”, is also riding high in the FPL game this season. He took it upon himself to look beyond Gameweek 29 and towards the double Gameweeks that follow: his post on the long-term Gameweek 29 strategies is well worth a read.

Amongst this week’s most controversial posts was Giggs Boson’s incendiary discussion on whether now is the time to drop Luis Suarez. A string of goalless performances, including another today in the win over Swansea, perhaps provide a compelling argument. At the time, few of our community seemed brave enough to part company with the enthralling Uruguayan but the goal posts have been moved again by Daniel Sturridge’s Anfield brace this afternoon.

This weekend marked the kick-off of the Ultimate FPL game Beta. This new in-depth pursuit looks ideally placed for dedicated Fantasy managers and in our UFPL hot topic we asked what early strategies the community was looking to adopt. Meerlight offered a timely reminder on the wildcard after three Gameweeks, urging the importance of focussing on short-term fixtures.

The Community Tournaments

In Tommy We Trust’s All Things leagues we saw ENR, Bootsy, Jonty, Billy Ketsu, Jambo17 and Koneheads take top spots going into Gameweek 27.

Meanwhile, @ocprodigy has started a new game based loosely on our very own Scout Picks. His idea is for the community is to compete against each other with their own weekly picks. Plus, those who score more than the Fantasy Football Scout Picks will gain an extra point. The full rules and point scoring system are explained here.

In addition, Innsie turned up again with another proposed distraction, aimed specifically at those posters active in the early hours of the morning UK time. The “Deadzone” as it is affectionately known is always full of willing participants from many timezones and Innsie has put forward an unofficial FPL tournament dedicated to those good folk.

Finally, a reminder that our Paddy Power Cup and Members Cups are still open for entry – we will close the gates on qualifying tomorrow but, if you’ve yet to get your name in the hat, you can still get involved. Click here for details.

Potenital GW28 team. I know it looks weak but I'm also able to start 10 decent players(11 if Kim plays) in GW29 with 1 hit. Hows it look?

    Boruc

    Azpilicueta, Terry, Ward. Flanagan, Olsson

    Hazard, Lallana, Snoddy,

    Suarez, Sturridge

    Mannone, Kim, Mirallas, RVP

Things to be cheesed off for this GW:

                - Eriksen no mins
-Terry getting 15pts for a goal he didnt score. I could not get Terry 3GWs ago as he was injured. I got Cahill over ivanovic instead.
-I used to have both Mert and Kos. I kept Mert cos I got him when he wass at 5.6M. This GW Kos goal and CS before being subbed off.
-Another CS on bench. Why do Norwich keep CSs versus Spurs and City at home and not at Cardiff away.

And that is just this GW. So many times this season I have been tempted to quit FPL but I am still here

A bad run of events really.

You've not exactly made awful calls there at all. Kosc I couldn't believe myself and I benched Olsson so I can appreciate that. Think I've learned that Norwich at home are an entirely different beast regardless of who they play.

Not pleased about the Terry goal either of course.

If I had less pressing transfers (I just had to ditch Eriksen), then I probably would have sold him, waited for a few price drops, and bring him back in a couple of weeks.

Suarez is dropping tonight. He could double drop this week. I just needed one more week and then I was going to get rid of him anyway. Oh well, I guess a double drop only costs me 0.1, which isn't that much at this point in the season.

        11-4-5-2-5 for Suarez

        17.2% ownership for RVP
        51.8% ownership for Suarez

I'm pretty sure falling is based on percentage ownership this season. Rising is still base on a set number of transfers in, but falling is percentage transfers out. Although the fact that Van Persie has recently come back from injury probably positively affects his NTI.

I like the system. It means the guys who are massively overpriced may become valid options later on. 2 of my defenders (Azpil and Ivan) I only have because I was able to pick them up at big discounts from their initial prices (0.7 and 0.5 less respectively). They would have been overpriced under the old system.

Earlier in the season, I picked up Eriksen, who had fallen almost 1m.

I think the price under the new system more rapidly adapts to the true market valuation of the community. This is a good thing IMO.

Van Persie has scored 4 out of 5 games since his return. That's not bad. There's no reason for him to have fallen since then. I think they fall slower when injured, though I've never really cared to learn how that works.

Okay guys I'm having so many crazy thoughts here and don't want to do something stupid...

    Mannone Marshall

    Coleman Terry Koscielny Ward Bennett

    Yaya Mata Hazard Lallana Puncheon

    Suarez Sturridge Jrod

    2ft 0.6 ITB

I think I'm actually in decent shape for the next couple weeks if i use my transfers right but I'm really unsure, i swear everything would be great if ryan bennett was playing, also yaya to adam is possible as i got yaya for 10.1 but i'll just want him back..

so i was thinking of mata > adam but would that be stupid as mata plays in gw29? Also thinking after this gw of suarez > RVP but that may be madness as i got him fro 10.9

I'll probably transfer out koscielny or bennett for some norwich or hull defensive cover too.

Any suggestions about a plan for the next 2 weeks?

Suarez was always gonna cool off/regress but that doesn't mean he's no longer a good option. Dunno why people would be aborting the mission now when he still gets into good spots and takes a massive amount of shots. Yeah Sturridge does force him out wide more than before but I think its more down to varience that he hasn't been scoring lately.

His form is good compared to other strikers but poor compared to his meteoric heights of a few weeks ago. If he was on form he would have first-timed and buried his 2nd half chance instead of taking a touch and giving Vorm a chance to save.

Sorry to flog a dead horse, but I honestly cannot believe Terry has kept that goal. I know there have been a number of '-gates' over the years on FPL, but that is the worst by far. It's not even dubious; blatantly comes off Howard.

A lot of people seem to be ditching Eriksen. As an owner of him, I really do get the frustration but it doesn't seem to make a lot of sense to drop him just before a home fixture to Cardiff.

He was benched today, but I don't see any reason why he might not start next weekend. When non-blankers are so valuable at the moment, it seems like a bit of a wasted transfer.

Is there injury news i'm not aware of?

I have held tight mostly due to having issues elsewhere. But I do think Eriksen, strictly on a two week window may be a good play.

Spurs were seriously lacking in any decent possession, passing and creation in the middle of the park today. I really do thikn Sherwood will go back to Eriksen now.

He doesn't seem to be coach's favorite at the moment. I dropped him before this gameweek because I didn't like the look of things. He could've been used today. Spurs were seriously lacking in energy and most everything else today. Wouldn't be surprised if he starts against Cardiff, but I got tired of wondering about him.
