Luis Suarez returns to form with a goal and two assists as Liverpool hammer Southampton at St Mary’s. Andre Schurrle fires a hat-trick as Chelsea see off Fulham, Moussa Sissoko is at the double in Newcastle’s win at Hull, Romelu Lukaku grabs the winner on his return to action for Everton, whilst Stoke register another home win thanks to Jon Walters’ converted spot-kick against the Gunners.

Suarez Turns on the Style as Sturridge Stumbles at St Mary’s
After weeks of outshining his fellow Liverpool forward, Daniel Sturridge was duly selected for a lead role in this week’s Scout Picks at the South American’s expense. Brendan Rodgers’ decision to switch to a 4-3-1-2 for the trip to Southampton and move away from the 4-3-3 formation that has devastated top-flight defences proved Sturridge’s downfall, though, as the Reds looked for more cover in the centre of the park to combat the Saints’ midfield. Those who have kept faith with Suarez as their captaincy option were richly rewarded with a goal, two assists and maximum bonus as the Uruguayan finally produced the returns his underlying stats have hinted at for a number of weeks. Yesterday’s turn of events may not have made the armband option any easier for those owning both but Suarez’ 15 point haul, on the back of 15 and 16 from Sturridge in the previous two matches, at least underlined the points potential of having the duo as two of our front three. With Steven Gerrard’s spot-kick duties coming to the fore and Raheem Sterling emerging from the bench to notch, the Reds main attacking assets all delivered – Liverpool, of course, have a blank next weekend but with a double Gameweek 31 comprising of a trip to Cardiff and home clash with Sunderland just around the corner, expect the bandwagons to get underway soon.

Schurrle Shows his Capabilities
Whilst Eden Hazard delighted his owners with a pair of assists in Chelsea’s win at Fulham, the Belgian’s exploits were left firmly in the shade by another of Jose Mourinho’s wide men. Andre Schurrle was named in the Blues starting XI for only the third time in the last 19 Gameweeks but did more than enough to suggest he’s worthy of a more regular role for the league leaders by firing a superb hat-trick in the 3-1 triumph. Let’s face it, we’re still highly unlikely to gamble on a player who has been handed 31 minutes in the previous seven league fixtures but if the German can nail down a run of first XI appearances, a record of six goals in his last four starts suggests that he will deliver. Given that Willian and Oscar have notched once since Gameweek 7 and 12 respectively, despite featuring far more often, Schurrle’s scoring exploits will certainly have given Jose Mourinho food for thought.

Magath Continues to Tinker
On his debut match in charge last week, the new Fulham boss made five changes to Rene Meulensteen’s final XI. Magath made a further three alterations to his side yesterday and made the surprise decision of dropping Lewis Holtby to the bench, with Clint Dempsey tucking in behind Darren Bent instead. After the game, the German explained Holtby was omitted as “it’s difficult to create chances against Chelsea” and with Kieran Richardson also shifted to left-back after a profitable stint in midfield, the Cottagers’ lack of guaranteed options look enough to convince us to steer clear. Magath also revealed Brede Hangeland was subbed off with a head knock and has been taken to hospital for scans.

Lukaku Returns with a Goal as Mirallas Warms the Toffees Bench
After a spell on the sidelines with an ankle injury, the big Belgian was expected to start for the visit of West Ham but was fit enough only for the bench after picking up a chest infection, Roberto Martinez confirmed post-match. Handed 31 minutes as a second-half substitute, Lukaku still found time to notch the winner against the Hammers for the second time this term, taking his tally to 10 goals since arriving on Merseyside back in September. After next weekend’s blank, Everton face Cardiff, Swansea and Fulham in successive matches and, with two double Gameweeks yet to be scheduled, Fantasy managers will no doubt be eyeing up their man assets. Kevin Mirallas’ owners, though, will have cause for concern by yesterday’s teamsheet. Perhaps Martinez had one eye on the upcoming FA Cup clash with Arsenal but the Belgian failed to feature at all yesterday and with the likes of Gerard Deulofeu and Steven Naismith both offering alternatives, his security of starts now looks under real threat.

Sissoko Helps Steer Magpies to KC Mauling
Having found the net in just two of their previous nine league matches, it’s fair to say that expectations were fairly minimal for Newcastle’s trip to Hull. With top scorer Loic Remy notching for the second match in succession since returning from suspension, the Tyneside team stunned their hosts with an emphatic 4-1 win – the Tigers biggest home loss of the season. Moussa Sissoko was the unlikely hero for Alan Pardew’s side. Retained on the right of midfield, with Luuk De Jong alongside Remy up top, Sissoko’s double took his tally to three for the entire campaign and suggested that he may yet make an unlikely differential over the remaining fixtures. Pardew’s side face a blank next weekend but with Fulham and Palace directly after, and a double still to be scheduled, he may arrive on some radars at 5.6 in FPL.

Walters on the Spot as Potters Home Comforts Continue
Having recovered from illness in time to take his place in the starting XI, the Republic of Ireland international notched the only goal of the game as Mark Hughes’ men chalked up yet another impressive home victory. Charlie Adam’s owners were left frustrated after the Scot was subbed off three minutes before Stoke were awarded a spot-kick midway through the second period – with their first-choice taker off the pitch it was left to Walters to beat Wojciech Szczesny and derail the Gunners’ title bid. Stoke have now beaten Chelsea, United and Arsenal and drawn with City and Everton in front of their own fans – with West Ham, Hull, Newcastle and Fulham still to arrive at the Britannia, in addition to trips to Norwich, Villa, Cardiff and West Brom, the Staffordshire outfit could well be set to benefit from one of the most favourable run-ins around. Adam’s owners will have further reason for concern after he appeared to stamp on Olivier Giroud. Given that the match day officials failed to spot the incident, the midfielder could be set to face retrospective action from the FA.

Ozil on the Bench as Wenger Hints at Fatigue
Back in the squad after recovering from a thigh problem, the German was expected to be re-installed to the first XI for yesterday’s Britannia showdown. After the game, his manager admitted Ozil was “fit to start” but decided to utilise his record signing off the bench, going on to say he has played “many many games” this season. With a blank Gameweek 29 preceding games against Spurs, Chelsea, City and Everton, Arsenal’s unconvincing display may well be set to spark an exodus over the next few days, with Ozil at the head of the queue for transfers out as we look elsewhere for kinder schedules.

But I have to say... why in this particular match? Why did you drop him now? I just bought him in PlayOn for this week.

Just check his stats from Norwich match when Cabaye was away and Rémy on, Hull's recent defensive stats, and Rémy's attacking stats. There's a lethal striker being getting to chances, a crap defence that has been lucky to concede little and a midfielder risen to a more attacking position creating a chance after chance after chance. I didn't foresee him being due to score goals, but assists for sure.

This was really a good match for me: I also bet 4 or more goals scored and Rémy anytime goal scorer. Made money with that and had Mourinho rotated differently I would have had a good round in PlayOn too. Now that was ruined by my wrong Chelsea cover.

Just want to say that it was not really just bad luck, but a stupid decision. Sissoko was due to score points. This was a good match, and the GW in general was crap for all bar Spurs, Chelsea, and attacking players from Newcastle and Hull.

Someone help! I have 8 players for next week (if Yoshida and Eriksen play), 2 FTs and £2.9m in the bank. Where to use them?

    ADRIAN / MANNONE
    VLAAR / KOSCIELNY / Cahill / Yoshida / Ward
    MIRALLAS / Mata / Puncheon / Eriksen / Hazard
    SUAREZ / STURRIDGE / JRodriguez

Suarez and Sturridge (and maybe Mirallas) are the only players I definitely want to keep. I think going in with 9 will be sufficient.

So, let's start with a reality check: you've got 6 players for next GW.

GW29 doesn't promise big point hauls, so save one FT to have 2 for GW30.

With the other one, perhaps Yoshida -> Chambers as a long-term move to get a So'ton defender who actually plays.

Don't really like Mourinho. Generally prefer City even though both will have bought the title (although that's what is required nowadays), because their football is much more entertaining.

        Also, John Terry.

Mourinho is the best manager in the league. John Terry is one of the best, if not the best CB in the league. I agree with you on the City point but the PL is won due to footballing reasons.

Yes, Mourinho is probably the best manager in the league, if you say best as the most winning manager. And I accept that.

But honestly, I don't get why people think winning is so important in football. It accumulates to nothing, next season the winners play same league like everybody else, starting from 0 points. It's a short lived symbolic moment, and that's all. If the manager can't give anything else than just victory, from the point of view of somebody who likes to watch football, as opposed to just celebrating victories, that is not much.

Mourinho is a dire manager in that his antics are really disgraceful, and he tends to play very boring football. I would prefer my team to have a manager like Pellegrini or Wenger or Rodgers who gives me some real game to watch. Mourinho is not the worst of the lot (that would be Moyes), because he has his tactical bravado (think of Real 3-2 City, what a match from Mou), but still, his style is boring.

Would massively prefer Chelsea over City. I don't know why exactly. I don't fancy either club, I much prefer Pellegrini's tactics to Mourinho's, plus Chelsea has idiots like Terry and lousy players like Luiz and Mikel in their squad. Maybe it's just that I much prefer Oscar, Schürrle and especially Hazard to any City player. Just as players, plus Eto'o as a personality, no matter if he's 40, he's a legend. Particularly Hazard is amazing. Did you know he has created more chances from open play (to others) than any other player this season? And that's just the ones from which his lousy strikers have been able to get a shot, while often they just lose the ball. If Chelsea had one decent striker, Hazard would break assist records and Chelsea would lead the league by 10 points or more.

Yeah, maybe it's just that I really like to watch Hazard play and hope that he'd win the title. So, I back up Hazard against Aguero, not really Chelsea against City.

Blimey, it's all about today, then.

Yeah, I am enjoying it - I still think there's something lacking with regards the transfers but I'm enjoying being settled on my squad and dealing with that rather than having to constantly worry about prices.

Also liking the scoring and finding cheaper players who can exploit the new methods.

I think it need refining but I think it's edging towards the kind of game that a good deal of us would enjoy.

I reckon it will be a fiver for a team - perhaps with a bigger package for multiple teams.

There's something more: i've prepared Dyer and De Guzman as my differentials this week. Everywhere i look now, here or in the UFPL rankings around me, same familiar faces for today: Ade, Bony, Vlaar, some Norwich def, maybe Paulinho. This could be my only chance ever to a one digit gameweek ranking (currently 31); however, as i was saying earlier, i'll have to be extremely lucky, as a lot of people are behind simply because they failed with (c) yesterday and probably most of them have Ade today.

You have to be at the computer to get the team sheets before making your manager subs to get the most from this game which is surely going to be problematic for most people.

It's a good game though and enjoying it. I will be putting the (C) on Shelvey in the hope he outscores Torres's 6 points. Also Gayle and Redmond possibly.

I'm relying on the following players to save my gameweek:

    Vlaar, Puncheon, Ward, Eriksen.

    Not looking great.

Vlaar and Eirksen could yet be a big help. If Villa keep it clean, Vlaar would be in the bonus I reckon. Unless there's a goal glut. Unlikely.

    So,

    Everton v Palace
    Everton v Newcastle
    Arsenal v Swansea
    City v Sunderland
    City v Villa
    Sunderland vs WBA

still to be arranged, any others?

Could be worth hanging on to the wc then? Or are many likely to be in w31?

This is exactly what I am thinking.

There could be a better DGW to come.

I will get about 7 DGW players for week 31 without taking hits...

If I did wc for thirty one though, id still have 2 city, 1 Everton, 1 Sunderland...with a couple of ft and maybe a hit or two from gw31s profit, I could still have over 7 for the next one with an awesome team gw31. Could be such a vital decision this one

If you have 7 without the WC, then that sounds strong to me.

Where's your Everton money going? I'm troubled by Mirallas. I should hold with his fixtures but it's clear that Martinez feels he can rest him. Lukaku seems to be the safest attacking option again now.

I've had Coleman since week one so I'll stick with him, I think I'd hold mirallas if I had him, but not if you were playing a wildcard. It's tough, lukaku, baines and Coleman would be the best option, but can't have lukaku for 31. Could sell sturridge for him prior to everyone's second dgw though.

Ideally I guess I'd have baines and Coleman, it's just such a drain on funds. But like cabaye says below, we could get *lucky* with an injury

Yep, those City and Everton fixtures look really tempting. The only problem being, rotation I guess, although its the business end now, can't see Pellegrini risking going with the big guns for the run-in.

You'd have 3 City in from GW31 onwards anyways so no reason to save there.

Surely one of the Everton games is going to be in GW31, it's the most logical slot or they'll end up with a huge backlog? If it was, then you'd have a couple of Everton in then too.

Not sure I would have more than one Everton for gw31, kun, Suarez, sturridge means no striker. Coleman I'll have but don't fancy any of their mids

If they have a double, think I might double up at the back.

Either that or it only takes one injury in midfield for someone to become a really good option.

No arsenal is the biggest drawback of using it 31. But it shouldn't be too hard to pick a couple up, 2 arsenal/Everton/city with a cheapo or two should cover us for the second dgw

Well they're getting the 3 points, how else would you describe strong? Mourinho likes it this way, too much flamboyance can lose you a game. Mourinho likes to be in control throughout the 90 mins. Schurrle gives him an extra goalscoring option.

Except that even if Eriksen just played 10 last minutes, there would be a fair chance that he assisted a goal against Cardiff. So, chances are that Eriksen + 5 is better than the other choice. At least it is not worse.
