Our new regular round-up of the fresh injury worries occurred over the previous weekend arrives this afternoon. We also dig deeper to discover just why a trio of key players only made the bench over Saturday and Sunday’s fixtures:

Arsenal
Arsene Wenger revealed Mesut Ozil was “fit to start” away to Stoke after recovering from a thigh injury. The German was only utilised as a second-half sub, however, as his manager reckons he has played “many many games” and is wary of fatigue playing a part in his record signing’s displays.

Aston Villa
Chris Herd has only just recovered from a hamstring problem but is out of the picture for the foreseeable future after the club released the following statement yesterday:

“The club can confirm that due to personal reasons Chris Herd will be unavailable for selection until further notice. There will be no further comment and we request that Chris’s privacy be respected.”

Cardiff
Craig Noone took to twitter to confirm he missed yesterday’s trip to Tottenham after picking up ”a slight knock”, though is optimistic of a return in time for the weekend clash against Fulham.

Crystal Palace
Glenn Murray was only fit enough for the bench as Palace travelled to Swansea yesterday. The forward made his first start of the season in Gameweek 27 but dropped out of the starting XI after picking up a knock in midweek. Joe Ledley played the full 90 minutes but is set to be assessed before joining up with the Wales squad this week – the midfielder admitted he is struggling with a hip problem and may have to withdraw from international duties. In the last few minutes, Palace have also confirmed Kagisho Dikgacoi has withdrawn from the South Africa squad to face Brazil because of injury.

Everton
Roberto Martinez admitted Romelu Lukaku was only fit enough to be utilised from the bench after he picked up a chest infection prior to Saturday’s visit of West Ham.

Fulham
Brede Hangeland was forced off early in the first period after an accidental clash of heads with team-mate Kieran Richardson and was taken to hospital for scans on Saturday evening. Fulham confirmed he was given the all-clear to return home, though it’s uncertain whether he will join up with the Norway squad in midweek.

Hull
The match commentary from the club’s official website revealed Curtis Davies “had been limping for much of the second half” before he was subbed off towards the end of Saturday’s 4-1 home defeat by Newcastle.

Newcastle
The Magpies back-up keeper Rob Elliot missed Saturday’s home hammering with a knee problem and has withdrawn from this week’s Republic of Ireland squad.

Norwich
Having been handed his first start since Gameweek 23 last weekend, Rickie Van Wolfswinkel was expected to start for Norwich’s trip to Villa but was ruled out of the match against Paul Lambert’s side with a knee problem, Chris Hughton has revealed. Robert Snodgrass lasted just 45 minutes before being withdrawn at the break due to a wrist injury and has subsequently pulled out of the Scotland squad. The Canaries boss elaborated on the trio after yesterday’s defeat:

“Ricky got a whack on his knee in the Tottenham game. He didn’t train at the beginning of the week but we felt generally it would be okay. Unfortunately it was still too sore come Saturday. Leroy does have a hamstring pull. We are still assessing how bad it is and we had to take Robert off at half-time because he felt his wrist when he fell making a tackle towards the end of the first half so he won’t go with Scotland.”

Earlier this afternoon, Hughton’s worries were compounded by the news that Martin Olsson has been forced to withdraw from Sweden’s midweek friendly with Turkey due to a shoulder problem.

Southampton
The Saints’ official twitter stream confirmed second choice keeper Kelvin Davis missed Saturday’s home loss to Liverpool after picking up a knock.

Swansea
Pablo Hernandez lasted just 22 minutes of the first period before being subbed off with yet another hamstring problem. After yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Palace, Garry Monk also confirmed he subbed off both Ashley Williams and Wilfried Bony due to illness:

“We’ve had illness in the camp over the last few days. Bony’s been ill, Ash was sick all last night and Pablo felt his hamstring in the first minute. Ash was ill today and has two badly bruised toes, but it shows his character and the leader that he is that he continues to play.”

Tottenham
After grabbing a goal and assist in Thursday’s Europa League win over Dnipro, Christian Eriksen was expected to be handed a starting role at home to Cardiff yesterday. Unfortunately for Tim Sherwood’s side, the Dane missed out altogether with a back problem, the club’s official twitter stream has confirmed. Zeki Fryers has withdrawn from the England Under 21 squad this morning with an ankle injury.

    Evening, Lads.

    Boruc - Jakupovic
    Koscielny - Azpilicueta - Ivanovic - Chester - Williamson
    Lallana - Ince - Snodgrass - Hazard - Colback
    Sturridge - Suarez - Benteke

I'm planning to do Benteke - RVP for next GW. It will leave me with 8 playing. Would you take a hit for any defender or cheap 5th midfielder or should I save?

@James and Chucky : The 'safe' option for me is to just captain Hazard, get Fonte on one FT and save the other FT for DGW31. I'll still have a full 11.

This makes sense for me because I'm defending a lead in my ML.. But the Rooney armband option is just so tempting !

I think Chester is being eased back because he got injured soon after his first injury and the problems Robbie Brady has had with comebacks and setbacks.

He's still first choice in my opinion and I expect he'll have nailed his place back by GW31.

I think Hull having no fixture will this week will benefit his chances as he gets more recovery time to prove its back to 100% and the fact that Hull got 4 put past them increases odds he gets back in.

I'd look to use FT for someone that can contribute this week, and although I think Chester will be back in by the DGW, I've only got my hunch backing me on it.

I don't think you'd play Chester on GW30, so there's 2 gameweeks you'd have him for that you're not using him which kinda undoes the benefit of the DGW he provides.

But its your call, Chester if back in the lineup as a starter is the cheapest route into any team right now.

Just a quick question on how you guys think of these transfers for the next couple of GWs ( I know that there will be injuries but I have some plan at least )

    Team ATM is

    Marshall Mannone
    Coleman Ward Ivanovic Burner Clyne
    Mata Eriksen Lallana Hazard Pozuelo
    Suarez Sturridge Adebayor

    0.7 ITB and 2 FT

These are the transfers I will be making for

GW 29: Clyne ➡ MOlsson ( will wait until update on his injury )
GW 30: Adebayor ➡ Agüero if he is available
GW 31: Mata and Eriksen ➡ Sterling and Nolan
GW 32: Probably upgrade Pozuelo ➡ someone like Livermore

Any ideas on these plans and yes I know that there will be loads of injuries

    Cheers in advance 😉

What benefit do you think you get from posting so many RMTs? Does it actually help?

The GW29 move sounds fine subject to injury news. The others also sounds fine but there is really no point in asking multiple times so far in advance.

im looking to get a 6m defender who i can can easily swap for koscielny later on after their bad set of fixtures. i reckon everton have the best set of fixtures until then.

I got burned by LOLarov after my wild card, can't even look at his name now without getting a migraine. I'd avoid personally. heartbreaking to see him rotated all the time!

me too. you end up needing him to score a brace + CS just to make up for all the 1 pointers.

Agree with Kol, I think that Pellegrini prefers the safety of Clichy in tougher games and Kol for attacking the weaker teams so he will possibly play Kol against United and play Clichy for Fulham. Lolol

Smalling will come under rotation if the injured players come back and a game against City won't be worth much. Flanagan is cheap and has a good DGW but Liverpool have been awful for clean sheets this season (though much better with Agger in the team). Kolarov will be rotated but he has 12 potential starts in the last 9 and about half of them are great home fixtures.

our injured players will not be fit for long, voodoo master Smalling will see to it that he always plays.

Ever noticed that Smalling can't play lb and Evra is the only other one of our defenders who never gets injured?

Evra. He has both a GW 29 fixture and a GW 31 DGW. United have been slightly improved at the back recently.

We all know we'll be stocking pup on attacking players for the DGW but which defenders are you considering?

    Mine:

    Kolarov
    Evra
    Collins

On the basis that their games are not that great in terms of CS's I've picked them more sore for their attacking potential (some more than others).

He gets in the thick of it in the box on set pieces and is tall for that matter. Pretty sure he's nailed on. He's played every game in 7, including 2 games in the space of 3 days.

Is Evra really worth a place in you're defence? United are pants atm. I'm staying clear. Not even gonna have Mata Roo or RVP.

I think that may be a mistake but that's just me. Evra is the only nailed on defender out of the bunch which has a lot of attacking potential.

Don't think he's nailed but he is first choice, cheaper than Yaya/Silva and is bound to get some attacking returns over the run of fixtures.
