The FA retrospectively charge Charlie Adam after his alleged stamp on Olivier Giroud last Saturday. Martin Olsson is the latest injury concern for Norwich after pulling out of the Sweden squad with a shoulder problem. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirms Wilfried Zaha still has a part to play for Cardiff, Tottenham’s left-back worries escalate and West Brom’s Billy Jones is out for a month with a hamstring injury:

Adam Charged with Violent Conduct

The FA have taken retrospective action against the Stoke midfielder after his alleged stamp on Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud last weekend. The match officials failed to spot the incident at the time but the authorities have acted quickly in charging Adam – he has until 6pm this evening to respond.

Stoke issued a statement on their official website just minutes after the decision was made public and have confirmed they will contest it:

“The club have learnt within the last hour that The FA have chosen to charge Charlie Adam following an incident involving Olivier Giroud in Saturday’s Barclays Premier League game against Arsenal. Charlie and the Club are surprised and disappointed to learn of this and will appeal vigorously against the decision.”

The Scout Says: In almost any other Gameweek, this news wouldn’t be much of an issue for Fantasy managers but, with only five fixtures set to take place this weekend, our midfield options could be restricted further. If Adam is found guilty, a three-match ban looks on the cards for the Scot – meaning he would miss this week’s trip to Norwich in addition to the league games against West Ham and Villa, thus killing off his appeal as a short-term option. With the likes of Robert Snodgrass and Christian Eriksen both doubtful and Jason Puncheon rested by Tony Pulis, many of the in-form options with fixtures on their agenda this weekend could be out of the equation. Bearing in mind Stoke’s kind schedule, a move for Jon Walters may tempt some – as the weekend win Arsenal showed, the Republic of Ireland international will step up for spot-kicks if Adam is not on the field.

Olsson Concern for Canaries

The Norwich left-back was an early withdrawal from Sweden’s squad to face Turkey tomorrow evening after sustaining a shoulder problem against Villa on Sunday. Olsson’s national team coach Erik Hamren confirmed the defender is due to undergo surgery once the current campaign is completed:

“He will undergo surgery later. He has a problem which became worse yesterday. Norwich want him to remain with the club to get treatment and have as much chance as possible to be able to complete the season.”

The Scout Says: The news merely adds to Chris Hughton’s concerns in a dismal week that saw Leroy Fer, Ricky van Wolfswinkel and Robert Snodgrass all pick up injuries. Prior to the midweek defeat at Villa, Olsson had turned in some of his best Fantasy displays of the season, with an assist, three bonus points and a trio of clean sheets over the previous six Gameweeks. Providing he can recover for this weekend, a home clash with Stoke looks prosperous as Hughton’s side seek a fifth successive shut-out at Carrow Road, whilst the 4.3-priced defender’s owners may well look to hold beyond next weekend, with Sunderland, Swansea, West Brom and Fulham in the subsequent five matches.

Zaha Still in Solskjaer’s Plans

The Cardiff boss confirmed Wilfried Zaha remains very much in his first-team thoughts, despite dropping the on-loan United wide man to the bench in Sunday’s defeat at Tottenham.

“Wilf’s been very positive since he’s come. He’s made a great contribution in some of the games. He’s got talent we’ll use in the next 10 games definitely.”

The Scout Says: After replacing Peter Whittingham as a first-half substitute in Gameweek 24, Zaha was handed a starting role in each of the Bluebirds’ subsequent three league games before a shift to 5-3-2 saw him drop out of the XI. Solskjaer’s constant tinkering, both in personnel and team shape, seem to be preventing his side from settling, though, and a distinct lack of cohesiveness has now seen the Welsh club fail to score in six of their eight matches under the new manager. With only five matches set to take place this weekend, Zaha owners will surely hold in the hope he will feature against Fulham but another stint on the bench may well see Fantasy owners look to the upcoming double Gameweeks for a potential replacement.

Sherwood’s Left-Back Worries Heighten

Ahead of Saturday evening’s trip to Stamford Bridge, Tottenham have real concerns in the left-back position. Reports in the local press indicate Danny Rose is expected to miss the next couple of league games with an ongoing knee problem, whilst Zeki Fryers was forced to withdraw from the England Under-21 squad with an ankle injury.

The Scout Says: Despite missing the likes of Kyle Walker and Younes Kaboul last weekend, Spurs manage to register a third clean sheet in the last four Gameweeks, with Fryers and Kyle Naughton deputising for Walker and Rose respectively. If Fryers and Walker miss out this weekend, Sherwood may be forced to switch Jan Vertonghen to left-back, providing Kaboul recovers in time, though the versatile Etienne Capoue offers an option at centre-half – he, too, is currently a doubt with an ankle problem. Given that Spurs then have Arsenal, Southampton and Liverpool as their following three opponents, anyone holding their defenders may be eyeing up a transfer out, despite their impressive recent form.

Mixed Injury News for Baggies

Billy Jones looks set for another spell on the sidelines after West Brom confirmed he suffered a hamstring tear in the Gameweek 27 draw with Fulham. Jones is expected to be out for around four weeks with the problem, though both Stephane Sessegnon and Claudio Yacob are back in full training and in contention to return against United this weekend.

The Scout Says: Jones’ absence is a real blow for Baggies boss Pepe Mel for the clash against David Moyes’ side. The right-back has managed just two lots of 90 minutes under the new manager, with his stint on the sidelines affording Steven Reid game time in the back-four. Whilst Yacob is likely to be re-installed in central midfield, Sessegnon has yet to feature since the departure of Steve Clarke due to an ongoing groin problem – after starting the Cottagers clash with a 4-4-1-1, Mel finished the game with a 4-3-3 formation and the Benin international is certainly versatile enough to operate on the right of a front three, for example. With Swansea, Hull, Cardiff and Norwich directly after the United clash, and a double Gameweek still to be announced, the Midlands outfit certainly have the fixtures to prevail.

Selling Sturridge now and possibly getting him back in the coming weeks would see you paying a few extra points for him. Profit on Adebayor and get Aguero in, then. It's all about finance management, my friend! 😉

True but if Snodgrass is out for two matches then you essentially have a FT as the cheapie you bring in should at least get 2 points per game.

3 to 4 week punt on a keeper implies taking hits. i wouldn't take a hit on a keeper unless my only keeper was out for the rest of the season.

i suggest you write off this GW from a keeper perspective and just pick the keeper who you think will score the most points between now and the end of the season (Howard might be a good bet since they have 2 doubles to come, of course Hart would be good if you can afford him, cheaper option would be Mannone).

Since I have 2FTs, I'm thinking of doing Sturridge for van Persie (C), then getting back for the doubles. I'd lose .2 only and would still be able to get the likes of Aguero and Baines in, for example. No-brainer, then, right?

I'm not sure what the stick or twist bit means - if you just mean "Stick with Kosc or Twist to Azpi?" then the answer is twist. Arsenal's fixtures are ghastly for a while and Chelsea's are fine.

Cool. Just a heads up, people tend to use "Stick or twist" on here for a specific Fantasy game concept that doesn't apply to FPL. That's why I was a bit confused.

In some Fantasy games (like Ultimate FPL or the UCL game) you can choose to change your captain after the first day of games. So if your captain on day 1 scored one goal, it's a tricky decision whether to stick with what you've got or twist and hope for a bigger haul from a player playing the next day.

Need some help from you Fantasy gurus.

I have 2 FT's and 3.2 in the bank. I'm happy fielding 8-9 this week and transfers this week don't necessarily have to be to field 9-10. What would you do? For context, I'm chasing in a lot of mini-leagues and Kosc is someone I want to get rid of.

I'd rather try and start banking cash for Aguero,so Kosc to Ward or the like (with a future DGW too) makes a lot of sense,I've considered Ivan for sure,as I have Evra, but I will need the cash from somewhere and I'm not sure I can follow through with my 'sell Hazard to a cheapie to fund YaYa/Aguero' move - which is appealing to me.

Right, I'm looking for suggestions as to what to do with my team this week... I currently only have six players with an actual game!

    Boruc
    Olsson, Azpilicueta
    Lallana, Hazard
    Lambert

And then all these don't have a game:

    Mannone
    Coleman, Koscielny, Chester
    Yaya Touré, Sterling, Ki
    Suazrez, Sturridge

So, how many transfers should I make? (One FT). I think I'll definitely get rid of Koscielny, but who else?

I always feel more confident captaining a centre-forward -- especially if this someone is as prolific as van Persie. Chelsea and Tottenham is always a tight game and I can totally see Terry scoring/boring a late winner from a Lampard set-piece. If Studge to Persie is a freebie, then just do it. I'm doing that myself.

Interesting to get some varied perspectives. I may definitely be biased as a Chelsea fan too.

Don't you think Brom are capable of shutting out United too? They've already kept Eve, Che and Liv to 3 goals in total very recently.

It could happen, the same way I wouldn't be surprised if Tottenham held Chelsea, too! That's as beautiful as it's frustrating from a Fantasy perspective, I know, but it could go either way.

My point, however, is: regardless of the outcome of the United game, I totally see them scoring. And if they do do, van Persie has the highest chance of being involved. Even more than Hazard in a Chelsea goal, for example. They're coming from a massively disappointing result in Greece, Robin said some harsh stuff and they'd better respond on the pitch.

After that Olympiakos match... no already before that, I just couldn't guarantee any performance at all from ManU. That said, they have only been left without goals 4 times this season, and the team was always more impressive than WBA. Well, Olympiakos, I'd say they're quite accurately same level with WBA.

Chelsea tottenham is not always a tight game. Chelsea absolutely destroyed them twice at WHL just 2012.

Now that we look at history, it seems like that at WHL both teams score and at SB usually just Chelsea, sometimes not even them.

Seen Spurs' attacking worries, putting money on Chelsea defence ain't that bad idea in this crap of a round. I already have doubled up that defence, but now should I maybe go balls out and captain Cahill?

I'm doubling up on Chelsea's defence as well, mate. All I'm talking about is form. Tottenham have been defending pretty well of late, that's why I wouldn't be surprised if the game was a goalless draw or a 1-0 win for Chelsea. Plus, see my answer above, too!

Okay. Fair enough. But Spurs have also had a tendency to concede loads of goals against big teams. Not only this season, but all the last 2-3 seasons at least. They may crash completely if they concede an early one.

But I agree that something like 1-0 or 2-0 is on papers here. And captaining Cahill sounds all the time better. He is due to score from set pieces at some point, and with first team full back at infirmary, wouldn't you think that Spurs are going to concede a lot of corner kicks and free kicks from flanks. Seems logical enough to me.

Provided this does work, it could be the punt of the year, my friend! I'm just not sure I've got enough balls to captain a defender. I totally get your point, but with Adebayor is in, I wouldn't be surprised if he scored either! Sticking with Persie (C) here, then. For now :p.

Yeah, Ade is the threat I fear too. I don't have RVP. Would probably (c) him if I had, but won't buy him just for that. I have Ade in my team, so I figure that if Spurs score, I will get points from that, which will be the silver line in the dark cloud of losing the points from Chelsea defence pair. Maybe captaining a player from this same defence would be too much of all eggs in same basket already. But I have to look for some differential and I can't see I was having much to lose this GW.

Currently (c) on Hazard, but I fear it's only gonna be 6 points worth captain this GW.

His midfield and front line is almost identical to mine, bar Mata and RVP. Thinking of ditching Ade > Aguero and Hazard > Yaya once the DGW comes upon us but is it too much going in without Hazard?

Throwing out my plans if anyone has time to look them over.
Have had a shocking last 2 GWs so need some confidence in this plan

    Currently

    - (mannone adrian)
    Ward Azpil Shaw Ollsen (sagna)
    Hazard Lallana Snodgrass Noone (silva)
    Lambert (SS)

    2 FT and 5.5 ITB
    GW 29: Silva and mannone -> Mata/Schrule/?? and Ruddy/cech

Drop one of Caulkers, for starters.

      So, then your DGWrs:

      1 GK
1 def probably (Kos), possibly another if Palace has a DGW
2 midfielders, but neither will probably play both matches, so more like non-DGWrs
      2 Forwards

Let's start from the obvious: 3 City players in demand. Out will go Ade, Snod and anybody from defence. I hate to say this, but you'd probably do fine by losing the one defender you have playing a DGW, Kos. Do no transfers this round, then next 2 GW these three.

Less obvious: Everton and Sunderland coverage would be beneficial too. Your defence looks like someone has chamakh'ed it up like a pimp, so maybe a bit of Baines & Bardsley would cheer it up. It will cost you points, but may be worth it. Wait for the GW31 transfers to start before moves on this front, don't take hit for GW30.

haha, thanks. Really helped. Will be looking to get Yaya back for GW31 and Baines and Aguero will be making an appearance. Bardsley may also come in too depending on the state of my "chamakh'ed" defense

          You're welcome.

Disclaimer: I'm just barely in the top 20k overall, so my advices may not quite win you the league. Although I have a reason to blame cancelled City and Everton matches of GW26 for that: I was in top 7k back then and moving up, had 2 from Everton and 3 from City, all big hitters, and dropped sub 15k that GW for that fecking storm. Now I'm back on tracks, getting those green arrows again, but need some big ones to get back to any serious business.

This GW ain't gonna help me whole a lot.

where are you hoping to find your big hitters?

and I'm focusing on my ML I'm 3rd and only 40 points off 1st so don't worry ahahah

Not sure. I'm going to follow the same recipe I gave you first: Liverpool (you have already), City, Everton, Sunderland. Going to SAS with Aguero GW30, but think of abandoning that for differential in the end. Depends a lot on where I am when that time comes. For now, just going with enough players having strong fixtures and maximum nailed on DGWrs from teams with good fixtures - that is, no ManU, no Arsenal.

I guess I'm not alone when it comes to a bit of forward planning to see what my GW31 team will look like...

    Adrián*
    Evans* Iva Olsson
    Yaya* AJ* Sterling* Haz
    SAS* Aguero*

    Mannone Noone Pieters Yoshida

No United might come back to bite me, but the way they are playing at the moment I'm not overly concerned.

      No United attack, that is.

Personally I don't fancy their attack. I think SAS and Aguero have far better fixtures than van Persie/Rooney. Since I don't have AJ or Sterling, I might get Livermore in for a punt, too. I've got 8 DGWers as well, you're good to go.
