With Gameweek 31 safely navigated, we turn our attentions to stats that matter in the Sky game including the usual info; the Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries and current market trends. As always, we also look ahead to the forthcoming fixtures, offering our preferred captain setup for Gameweek 32.

Gameweek 31 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below is a match-by-match breakdown of the players who won the plaudits from the Sky Sports reporters last time out, earning five additional points for the Man-of-the-Match award.

FixtureMoTM
Hull vs Man CityDavid Silva
Everton vs CardiffDavid Marshall
Fulham vs Newcastle>

Steve Sidwell
Southampton vs NorwichJames Ward-Prowse
Stoke vs West HamStephen Ireland
Sunderland vs Crystal PalaceDamien Delaney
Swansea vs West BromJames Morrison
Aston Villa vs Chelsea>

Fabian Delph
Man United vs LiverpoolSteven Gerrard
Tottenham vs ArsenalLaurent Koscielny

As is often the case, midfielders claimed the majority of awards with seven out of the ten fixtures, whilst defenders earned two and goalkeepers one. It was a weekend for differentials as reflected in the MoTM awards; Steven Gerrard (8.49%), Laurent Koscielny (5.65%) and David Silva (4.54%) ownership were the only players of note to have a reasonable effect on overall rankings.

Gameweek 31 Bonus Points

Four goalkeepers managed five saves or more this week – Adrian, Joe Hart, David Marshall and Vito Mannone were the men in form. Mannone and Marshall lead the way overall with 20 and 18 bonus points respectively.

In defence, a total of 14 players gathered bonus, 12 for four tackles or more and two for 60 completed passes – centre-back Sylvain Distin was the closet to earning both, missing out by 12 completed passes. Angel Rangel is now the top bonus point earner with 24 extra points so far.

In midfield, ten players earned bonus points – five for tackling and five for passes. Morgan Schneiderlin was the player closet to achieving both, falling just one tackle short of the required four – he is also now the top bonus point earner, with 38 additional points.

A reminder that Fantasy Football Scout members can access all the data regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

NameTeamValue% of Managers
OzilArsenal8.86.45%
DawsonTottenham6.25.76%
AdebayorTottenham7.65.67%
NegredoMan City8.65.06%
GabbidonCrystal Palace3.74.23%

The top three players for transfers out are all carrying injury concerns and have been shipped by over 5% of Fantasy managers. Alvaro Negredo and Danny Gabbidon have had limited first team opportunities in recent weeks and also find themselves in the top five.

Top Transfers In

NameTeamValue% of Managers
SturridgeLiverpool9.26.10%
SterlingLiverpool4.85.44%
GerrardLiverpool8.13.98%
HazardChelsea8.83.53%
ShawSouthampton5.33.52%

Liverpool dominate again this week with three of their attacking assets at the summit of the most wanted list ahead of an enticing couple of fixtures. Eden Hazard and Luke Shaw make up the remaining numbers as their strong form continues.

Gameweek 32 Proposed Captain Strategy

Looking ahead to the captaincy choices for Gameweek 32 we have a multitude of options available due to the double Gameweek. If you have a surplus of transfers you could even opt for four captains.

Our Strategy:
Luis Suarez (Cardiff Away) → Luis Suarez (Sunderland at Home)

It’s a tricky Gameweek to navigate the captain choices and this is mainly due to Liverpool’s appealing fixtures and the dates of the ties. As Liverpool do not play until Sunday in Gameweek 33, swapping the armband during this Gameweek will make it all the more difficult to finish with Luis Suarez as your captain in Wednesday’s home clash with Sunderland. Therefore we opt to forgo the lure of extra captains and instead recommend using the captaincy swap in a more tactical way, retaining it on Suarez from Saturday to Wednesday and then, when the Gameweek has ended, swapping to a player featuring on Saturday March 29 – of which one of Eden Hazard/Wayne Rooney look good options.

Of course if you have the transfers or prefer to go for the short term option of points in the bag and rectify later – going with a player from one of the Manchester clubs for their two games and then a captain switch to Luis Suarez would result in three captains for the week and could potentially be more profitable. At this point in the season, though, few will have the trades left for such a tactic.

What would be better to go forward with considering the DGW in 34 too (on WC):

    Adiran/Mannone
Zab Coleman Dummett Dann [Baines^ or Cahill*]
Yaya Gerrard Hazard Nolan [Barry^ or Oxlade*]
    Suarez Dzeko Sturridge

    ^ Team 1
    * Team 2

I'm worried being without a Chelsea defender until potentially GW35 (could use a transfer before if things go wrong) but do the DGW options for Everton balance this out (though Barry on 8 yellows)?

Ha yeah Barry seemed the best option from a bad bunch under 5.5 with Rosicky doubtful, picks up an asisst now and again, but you're right not really any potential at all. Wasn't too keen on someone like Ki, but yes the second team seems a bit more balanced to me.

Barry is a none factor in fantasy. Though I'm not convinced by Ox either. His game time is in question but does pop up with points. I'm actually going to change my answer haha, Baines and Livermore would be my combo. Hold Baines till gw 34 then dump for a Chelsea d cause they do have a nice run in. Plus having double Everton over the next 4 gw where they have 6 games is advantageous on it's own. And totally agree. I don't fancy Ki at all, his only selling feature is cheap.

On a wildcard, would you stick with Rosicky or transfer for someone else?

Budget is 5.8, don't want to break up other 10 DGW candidates, but there's not a lot of choice in that bracket.

    OK, so brought Aguero in early for GW30 and decided to hold on to him hoping he might've been back for GW31. So with current injury status my team with -4 transfers already (Lall & Ivan for Silva & Kos done early in the week) is as follows;

    Mannone
    Mert, Kos, Coleman
    Silva, Yaya, Sterling,
    Suarez, Studge

    Choice for bench/play

    Januzaj, Chester, Hazzard,

    Bench; Aguero, Shaw, Boruc.

My thought is to hold on to Aguero and, insanely, bench Haz and Januzaj and Chester. Thoughts?

I'm chasing a 100 point lead and my rival is most likely to captain Suarez. Who should wear my armband in GW31 for me to have any hope of catching up?

    A) Sturridge
    B) Suarez
    C) Yaya
    D) Lukaku
    E) Nolan
    F) Nasri
    G) AJ

I would still captain B. If he explodes and you don't captain him you could be down 150 points. Though realistically time is running out and you need to make a move sooner or later.

11 DGWs for -4, would've gone to -8 if needed. Should at least break even if they play both games.

Not a bad stab at all but I think they'll go for Davies instead of Chester and maybe Johnson instead of Nolan. Personally I'd stick Coleman in and pick Sturridge instead of Rooney

Why not? They're the 2 best options for this week so surely you guys should be encouraging people to get them both?

It's an increasingly disputed rule but it's always been the case - no doubling up in any position (including GK/DF). The intention is to highlight as wide a variety of options as possible I think.

It's one of the reasons I always smile when people compare the picks unfavourably with TotalFPL who often double/treble up on some positions when the fixture is inviting. They try to pick the highest scoring team, the Scout Picks try to highlight a range of options - it's different criteria.

Who knows, maybe the rule will be relaxed at some point.

Fair enough - I see where you're coming from. I personally think it would be better if it was more of a 'pick the highest scoring 11 this week' kind of thing but I can see why you do it differently.

Yeah, as I say, it's a disputed rule which long predates my involvement so I don't rock the boat!
